I just bought a "Fireside Harp" and I'm half way done decorating it, can't wait to string it and play it.
Can't help but wonder if my 6yo will take to it and one day grow up to be like you. If she Likes it I should start a savings account now for the crazy big, crazy expensive harp - ha ha.

Does she play piano? I would almost always say start with piano, not sure if our host agrees with me, but it's a much more versatile and practical instrument and is really the exact same instrument as the harp, shape and all, just your fingers snap (yes snap...the second you start thinking along the lines of plucking you fall into one of the hardest habits to break out of) the strings instead of the hammers the keys engage striking them while they lie horizontally in front of you. After I got a perfect score in theory and performance at just eight at the local university's assessment and I could play for ppl on cruise ships and all and spent many years enjoying the piano (and basic piano understanding is all I would say one needs) I bought a harp cuz my old piano teacher was going and buying one every few months and had like four. So I rented one for 35 bucks a month, full size 40 string harp and found a teacher online. We had a thirty minute lesson then next week a second where she provided me with drill books and harp method practices and at the end of the second lesson she appologized and said she didn't feel right continuing and I needed to get another teacher or just accept I now knee how to play. Fourteen years later or so and I never as much as even downloaded or bought a single piece of harp sheet music. I just use the piano books and can play any song on my harp and I'm still renting. I bought a prelude but it was stolen so just another 35 dollars rental but it's rent to own so in another nine months it's my full sized harp. I am devastated I have never even had the chance to play a pedal harp which is so much easier than the endless hours spent writing in lever switches long before the note just because it's the one quarter rest you have to reach up but I'm totally happy without going to buy a 30,000 dollar pedal harp. Point being though the piano translates to all the musical world so easily and I have a feeling even learning theory on a harp would be so much harder for a child than piano tho it's the same exact theory either way. Given many schools have free piano class or piano club or u can find lessons for 15 bucks an hour I'd consider that. There is nobody in my life tho who gave me so much as my piano teacher from 3-10. She gave me everything I love about myself, taught me to truly appreciate music at the depths most people I don't think even recognize when listening and I have just one source of self esteem in my life and thank God she gave that to me. I like myself because of it and was astronomically adept in math all my life and an now a polyglot, philologist, linguist, translator you name it, 4 of my 8 languages totally fluent too (although Greek and french speaking family helped a lot with that) but it is true, music matha and language are all the same thing to our brains and exercising any of them make the other two grow immensely as well so for emotional well being, confidence, self worth, and school performance, get her in lessons, if she hates it after a month let it go, but it literally had thee biggest influence on improving my entire future and I doubt I am the only one who got so much from it. after losing contact for over 20 years with my teacher I contacted her last month and had her in tears when I learned she is still teaching and I told her good because even throughout a life of serious abuse, neglect, emotional psychological and sexual abuse, coping the wrong way and deep depression I faced, I can safely say for one reason, I like myself and it's all because she showed me how to love music and there was no gift I could provide, just a silly thank you, since nothing is near that valuable to purchase her compared to what she gave me. Don't be reluctant about it, if she likes music get her a few lessons so she isn't just tinkering around and after not progressing bored with no idea what to do on it. Like if I gave you an Obie for your birthday. Her school performance, maybe free college, something healthy to take her time while children at record numbers are failing while turning to sex, drugs, worthless vlogging selfishly with their every thought basing their value on thumbs up. But yea none of my business at all but never underestimate how life-changing language music and math are. I know it isn't AS influential for her as it was for me, a boy, the same relationship exists even if girls usually gravitate more toward the art, abstract ideas, emotional intelligence triad.
