    A very good review. We had numerous rats show up outside so after seeing this trap reviewed I bought one. After putting out the strips to find where they are most active I haven't seen a single rat for 5 days. The trap will be standing by and I will put it into action as soon as I see a rat. The A24 is pricey but is well made. I don't want to poison, the electric traps can't be used out doors and other traps just disappeared, no doubt with a hapless rat attached or they killed birds. This seems like the best solution.

      Morning Bob! Great to hear it helped. Mine is still going strong - it is always in use since the day I got it. I move it from time to time from the back shed area, to the porch area outside, to my basement crawl space , etc. I agree - not cheap but I cancelled my pest control services shortly after I got it so for me, worth every penny. Still gets them, to this day. :) Cheers and all the best!

    Good stuff GP, now go around your cottage and look for any tiny holes or seams and start buttoning up. Size of a dime or less is all they need, and wood wont deter them. Sheet metal and wire wool are best, even a little mesh squeezed in a crevice helps. And that trap is a killer! pun intended! Great review GP. And yes I also battled these critters, and prevention is the path. Cheers.

    Big cities need to deploy bunches of these to at least keep populations to a minimum. They worked in eradicating rats from islands in a reasonable time.

    I bought the automatic trap and within three or four days, it started to show results. The most rat activity was in our chicken coop and after about a few weeks after placement, the counter was registering 10 kills. I physically removed 8 very large rats and figured two had been removed by scavengers. Unfortunately, the most recent kill was when a Carolina Wren decided to investigate the opening. But, I still think this trap truly is the best I’ve ever used.

    ...at 6:33 when the 'monitoring devices are being set up, the jazz is really hittin'.
    Nice choice.
    -
    Oh.
    And the trap is cool as hell.
    -
    Any thoughts on outdoor/near the entrance to the 'interior?...for the sole purpose of making sure the dead carcasses were available to be 'hauled off by the local scavengers?...or do you not want to attract THEM?
    Because if it's a Cabin you visit infrequently, just how long would you like dead rats/mice piling up under your floorboards while you're away?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning RHG! Thanks for the great questions. I did a followup to this video about 6 months later (video #159). I moved it to a few places outside the cabin - on the porch by the side door, out back by the shed etc. And you are right. It works great outside on the sides of the cabin - the carcasses are gone each time and I still haven't had any activity in the cabin itself. So it seems so far that putting outside around the cabin gets them before they come in. It's been almost a full year now and it still works great - it's the only trap I have and it works, no matter how cold it gets outside. Thanks for watching and for the great comments. All the best!

    A lot of expense when a roller in a five gallon bucket is very effective for removing mice and a deeper container works on rats ( a little more planning needed, rats are smart). I keep my buildings critter free with the bucket roller solution.

    Wow that was awesome. Living in the countryside as i do we have outside animals and this brings in these pests. Anywhere there is a food source these critters will be calling. This thing reallly works well. I wonder if there is something out yet that would work for bigger varmits like opossums, racoons, groundhogs. Yes i even have a groundhog family living in a burrow underneath my barn, they can be very destructive too. Thanks GP.

    Please give an update review or comment on this trap after you used this at least a year. Cost, does the co2 loose power, use on rats, can you refill these co2 cartridges on your own, can you use co2 gun cartridges will they fit, is there a cheaper option for co2 for this trap, can you use your own bait, repair of unit and where, can you repair on your own, is there any maintenance(lubricate) of the unit and cost, how long will trap work - longevity, ect. Liked your review and video. I like to see real honest reviews not swayed by sponsors.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning Daniel Thanks for the comment. I have been using it now for more than 2 years. Still the best trap I have ever used here - I did cancel my pest control services along time ago. I don't have rats but I understand it does. Re: the cartridge and lubrication. I don't need to lubricate anything ( there is no maintenance required). The tips of the C02 cartridges are lubrucated and lubricate the ram mechanism through that process. I don't know if you can use other types of cartridges - they certainly look exactly like thrones we had with our BB guns when we were kids but I haven't tried, nor have a desire to. The cartridges do perform as they say it does - I get about 24-26 strikes out of a cartridge (I have a counter so I know for sure). For cost details I would go to their website - all their pricing is there. Thanks again - love the trap!

    5 gallon home depot bucket, a Simpson strong tie 16" insulation support, a plastic water bottle and some peanut butter. Cut the insulation support to the width of the bucket (a bit longer so it wedges in the bucket). Use a propane torch to heat the insulation support and pierce a hole through the bottle top to bottom. Install the bottle onto the insulation support and wedge it into the 5 gallon bucket. Butter the bottle with peanut butter and make a ramp for the mice... And viola they drown!.

      Good day. So far, on average about 27 kills per cartridge. I see they have a newer version which has a bluetooth connection but I do not believe it is mandatory to use/ buy it ( I thought it was an option but I am not sure - my trap is a few years old now and still doing it's duty - 100% satisfied still). The digital counter i have was an option on it. Super helpful especially when you have the trap outdoors since many forest critters will take away the victim so you can't otherwise tell if it did anything without the counter. Good luck!

    You are right about the poison. You have no way to know where they will die. Outdoors is just OK, but indoors is a nightmare. I have had good luck with Raid Kill & Contain Mouse Trap. I use cheese or peanut butter. It depends on the mouse. If the food is still there after one night, then I change it from one to the other and the next night the mouse is dead. I think the reason these are so effective (including the one you were testing) is the tunnel. Mice just don't seem to like to be out in the open.

    Interesting. I have been using one of the victor electric traps, it works well, but gets a bit messy every now and again and requires cleaning or it does not properly detect the next victim. I had a problem with wood rats under my barn. They are very cautious and once you kill off the less intelligent ones the alpha rats become very challenging to exterminate. I had killed one in a snap trap that was the size of a young possum. I agree with you on the poison, too many risks to my other animals and other wildlife.
    I must say it is interesting to watch the mouse step over the carcass of his neighbor to enter the suicide machine. That is not an option on the snap or electric traps, and not something I envisioned would happen.

    I have been told in the past by a pest control guy that if a #2 pencil eraser will fit into a gap, that a mouse can also. Some caulks will stop mice as will some expanding foams. Seal those gaps/cracks/holes and keep the mice out of the living areas!

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      GP Outdoors oh yes they are a challenge to keep out! Forget the steel wool, the buggers will chew through it. The old sis pads work, but not steel wool. If you have places with steel wool, pull it out and use expanding foam. Barn cats help also, but they need to hungry, not starved, or they will only play with them. It is a constant battle. I about a year ago figured out mice were coming in under a metal plate installed be HVAV installers. Once this metal plate was installed my issue is next to non existent. I overlooked that plate for years.

    Keep it simple... I am not much for these traps that use batteries, glue strips or CO2, i am a fan of the rolling log trap and for winter just use a taller barrel the mice can't jump out of.

      Good day Bull! Yes, I was pretty shocked at it's performance and pretty smart the way it was built to auto reset and keep on working. I have a few nights so far, where I have found 2 and 3 bodies in the morning. I decided to continue testing it and will do a followup video in another month or so so I have 3 months of testing it to see how well it performs over a long winter period. Used it outside in the - 30 C weather too. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door. I have a 80 yr old log cabin in the mountains of Northern Quebec, it is by definition a "mouse farm". Solve the problem by finding the access. Stuff steel wool into any and all cracks & openings. Coat steel wool with Mono caulking if exposed to outside weather. No mice inside camp in 3 years.

  • @tomkeating65

    Not for me. Can't stand the sight of them. I'd have to hire someone to get the dead Mickeys. They used to crawl into my garbage can in the kitchen. I'd take the live ones and release them. Then I got a cat. But the cat would play with them. During the play, I'd catch those little critters and give them an idea of how my septic worked. But, my cat has been out of luck lately catching the mice. I have a barred owl hanging around now that I think is dining on said mice. The owl and the warmer temps we've been having, have put a damper on mice infiltrating my house. I don't mind mice, as long as they don't come in. 😎😎🤗🤗🤔🤔🤔🤔
