I stopped watching them so long ago I can’t remember the last time I voluntarily watched them. Now we are free of them. Lovely. We still get the letters though, just as well we have a hungry shredder.

The second one made the mistake of confirming themselves as the occupier. Never give them any kind of information. Answer no questions. Ask them who they are and when confirmed that they're a TV licence salesperson, say you're not interested and close the door.
They knock on your door, and send threatening letters, no body gives a f__k, any more.
I haven't had a visit in over 9 years.
I think my (lack of) response, at the last visit, may have put them off. 😁

The perfect example of a video doorbell or external camera being worth it.
No questions from them, should be answered, Anybody coming to your front door can claim to be anybody, they're not going to come in as you don't need to verify there TV licencing, the thing to do is just ignore them if they are too persistent report them preferably enormously.
Don't answer the door, uninvited cold callers are a big amount of scammers!
I cancelled my tv licence last year and received an email confirming I won’t need one till 2023 and to date have received a couple of emails referring to my cancellation of my direct debit and telling me I need to get a licence and today I received a letter addressed to me by name telling me I have 10 days to go before they schedule an enforcement visit. It is worrying as they wrote to me personally instead of “Occupier” I still won’t pay though! I don’t watch live tv!
Standing at my window looking out when a woman stopped and looked at me, she then wrote something on a card and posted it through my door. It said "You have been paid a visit today and to stop us visiting you again you must buy a TV license". I took it out to her and asked if a major retailer kept sending someone to her door and posting cards saying she will be visited again unless she buys something then that would be illegal, so how can TVL get away with it. She smiled and nodded her head and took the card back off me. Total scumbags.
These people should train for a proper job, something that would benefit the economy and society.

I remember about 25 years ago when I was visited by a goon. I invited her in to look around, then called the police to say there was an intruder in my house. She took off so quickly it was unbelievable. I hope they can visit me again!

Well, you could be expecting another caller, or not know who he/she is and think he/she may have legitimate business.
It's not like they dress in obvious 'TV Licensing' marked clothing.
Take note here ppl, the Indian goon training the other clown when the householder answered the door notice he trys to get confirmation of answers without saying who he is first as the householder had to as him who he was so do not answer any questions at all but especially if the caller doesn't offer any I'd.
I've had to knock on a few doors for a previous job. The fact they don't, and immediately start asking for personal information (or in some cases, spilling somebody else's personal information to a third party without consent), makes them appear very dodgy, and it raises all red flags for a scam.
You right , the BBC instructions are that they must identify themselves to anyone who has reasonable grounds to know , them knocking at your door gives you those grounds , they are also issued with ID verification cards that give contact details to verify there genuine , That bit seems to be missing from the training ,

I've noticed they've been making a habit of saying your address sometimes even multiple times in the hopes that you won't upload the video to social media when it can easily just be muted out. If they've showed you their I'd off camera and know their name you might aswell counter their address read out with a readout of their name.
When I was in the forces we were always taught that if captured to answer interrogation questions with... "I'm sorry sir I cannot answer your question".... It just means you cannot or will not answer the question without giving away a reason why. You don't incriminate yourself in any way.

Look at how that handheld device is always orientated and pointed exactly at the person opening the door so they can record the interaction and persons image.
The same process to start the recording each and every time
They correlate that with social media profile pictures to build an identity.

Does it record anything? I assumed it just had basic details of the address and previous visits. They hold onto it like a comfort blanket when being told to do one.

The investigation has apparently been started again into my address so looking forward to the autumn when the whole process starts all over again.
Not had a TV license for over a decade. I've been bothered twice in that time and just told them to p*ss off

Well, just make sure to have your phone or a video hub handy and manually open it.
You can make the notifications more obvious with custom screen colours and sounds for when it detects a person in the door area.
It's not the poor canvassers fault - they're only trying to make a crust; it's thw 'willie wonkers' at the dunning agency that should be hung-drawn-and-quatrered for 'spinning them a line' that it was a fair task.
The system is 50 years out of date and needs a more sensible approach to collecting fees from those who watch BBC, but won't pay and those who don't but still get hounded.
I'm well over the hill and resent how my free licence was 'stolen' from me....

Why pay a fee for something so politically biased and low quality? The truth is only older people watch it now. Nobody else is interested their entire audience is over 50 and shrinking rapidly.
And I have worked for the company Capita that deal with chasing customers for license fees. I did not work in tv licensing Capita do a few different things but I know enough from other staff there to know they teach people to use shady tactics. If you prove you don't even own a tv and they say they will leave you alone they just start sending letters addressed as the occupier instead of your name. They know exactly what they are doing.

Back in the 1970's they had grey vans with a silly and false aerial detection device on top. They claimed they could detect what you're watching on TV and people believed it. The device did nothing, but to try and scare people. The man inside would literally turn a handle inside to make it look like it was scanning the area. lol

Spoke to Plusnet today regarding tech problems. After a social chat they informed me that many people are relying on their Internet connection for streaming etc. Many customers have cancelled their license etc.

HI having a go at the "Goons" will not eradicate the issue, yes some of the video footage is unsavory but no one posts much when they are polite. Having a go at the masses means that those at the top in Capita sleep well on their 6 figure salaries. Jonathon Lewis is the Chief Exec of Capita. Why not comment or post something about the people who are making the decisions who can influence the situation rather than those following instructions in a job which enables them to feed themselves and/or family. I would suggest as an initial point contacting your MP and share their responses on line rather than the "Goons" who can't change the situation.
Does that exempt them from any wrongdoing?
These agents are free to choose another job, and know what they're getting into, so they're fair game, as they perform an unwelcome service that householders don't want.

To be honest there are so many channels, I can't remember the last time I watched BBC, it just happens to be sitting amongst my other 200 channels on my virgin box, I do pay a licence but realised I may as well stop it as on top of that I am mainly on my mobile browsing or playing games. Goodbye bbc from today.

My house is the only one for miles in every direction that has no aerial/antenna on the chimney or roofline. It is literally impossible to get broadcast TV in my home. Also my TV is probably dead as it hasn't been switched in on in 8 years, since my now adult son, used to put his old playstation through it.The goons visited and went insane with anger, trying to find the antenna cable in the big room.Where is it? They kept asking. I kept telling them no such thing existed in my house. They finally actually had a temper tantrum when I directed them outside to look at my chimney/ roof and asked them if they noticed something different about mine , compared to everyone else's? They've not been back for 14 years, but they are threatening another visit soon. I can't wait to persecute them yet again!!
I got a visit yesterday, caught me off guard, he asked when I would be renewing my TV licence, I said "I only stream from non-bbc services" and "I'll be filling in the online form to declare i don't need one". He made some notes and walked off. I know now I should've kept my mouth shut, What can I expect to happen next?
Delete anything that can incriminate you just in case, and keep everything else that can back you up but other than that don't worry too much but best thing's to do I think is to never engage with these parasites
UPDATE: so during my first visit amongst other questions the goon asked me to confirm my name at which point I just ignored him. Today I get a new letter in the post which what addressed to the Occupier, where as previous to the visit all letters were made out to my actual name. Looks like I’m being processed again with the same b.s. letters and more than likely visits too. Will be ignoring them from now on!

This system is 100 years old or so. There's even a distinction between color tv and black/white. Hilarious. The Flinstones are futuristic compared to the BBC.
In a normal country they charge every tax payer 40 GPB instead of 160 GBP per household regardless of whether there's a tv or not. The savings come from not needing to fund a DDR-style Harassment Department.
The thing that really annoys me is those who ring the doorbell and knock. If i've got a doorbell you don't knock!
Actually, it's polite to do both, in case the doorbell doesn't work or whatnot.
It's people who don't ring the doorbell at all when you have one who are the annoying ones.
The way they fish for details while withholding their details comes across as very menacing to me. It feels intimidating and threatening. When an unknown person knocks on your door the first thing you want to know is who they are. If strange people knocked on my door asking questions while acting evasive, I'd instinctively think they were here for nefarious reasons (which arguably they are.) There should be a law brought in that makes it illegal for doorstep sellers to withhold their details. They should immediately have to tell you who they are and why they are there before they ask any questions. If I feel uneasy as a grown man, just imagine how vulnerable people feel.
I can't wait for the licence to be abolished. This is nasty behaviour and if it wasn't for the law protecting these clowns I would have spun there jaw

Tempting to get a video doorbell, but that would take the fun out of life! I visited a small retailer a couple of weeks ago, they got a memo from TVL that they no longer need to submit address details, I don't know if that applies to larger retailers though.

I remember when I went to an Argos for a tv sometime ago and it was a real pain in the ass because they wanted my name/address for the TV licence crap but it literally took forever because I had such a weird address it was like I didn't live where I said I did

Well, some houses do have the knocker or bell on the inside door, or nothing at all, so you have to take a guess.
