- I worked at a new quilling design for letter S.
The work took me aprox. 2 hours.
I made the letter then I framed it.

Thank you! I have bought wooden letters at the craft store and shaped paper around them. Then glued the paper to my background. So far I have had good results. Only done it 4 times, though!

I am just learning the art of quilling and I absolutely love it. Your style is so beautiful. I am making the letter S and my question is, for the outline board do I make the width of the paper taller than the inside quilled pieces or do I make them all the same height. Your videos are very easy to follow. Hope to hear from you soon so I can get started on this. it will be a gift for my sister.
Sorry for such a late reply :( Thank you for your comment, it means a lot to me. That is so cool that you love paper quilling, I love it too and it is great to see other people starting doing it. Regarding your question, in my letter projects I use strips of paper with the same height but I think you can try it the other way and make the edges shorter and the inside taller so it will have a more 3D effect, I think I would like to try that too. :) Hope this helps!

Thank you very much, Jeanne! Yes, that part can be confusing, sorry about that. Well, I draw the edges of the letter using a pencil, then I erased it a little bit so it won't be too evident on my project. I used it as a guideline to know where to place the strips of paper so I can have a clean letter S. :) Hope this helps!

That looks so easy. I am new to quilling. want to know how you decide which shapes to use to fill in the letter?? is there a technique or you just decide on the spot??
Welcome in the paper quilling family! I usually decide at the moment; or i look through old designs to remember shapes i made before, or i just create new designs on the moment.

Please tell what what thing are needs
You need a frame, strips of paper, glue, quilling slotted tool, tweezers and a cardboard to build the letter on (thicker paper works well too).
I'm waiting for my quilling paper to arrive and just wondering if this is considered easy,intermediate or hard becuz I'm just starting
I think this can be considered as intermediate. If you are still a beginner, check my channel for easier designs and learn the basics. Then, in a short time you can start doing quillography. Good luck!

Great video, but how do you avoid "dribbles" or lumps from the glue when it dries? Especially around the outer shape of the letter!
Hello. Well, i recently started to use a thin paint brush immediately after i apply the glue. I use it to "collect" the extra glue that remains on paper. I noticed it made a great difference in my designs. I had the same question as you but i saw Luke Bugbee, a quilling male artist, using one in his quilling work. Hope this helps! 😊

Quick question: do you ever spray the final art work with clear acrylic spray? I’ve heard it helps preserve the work and deepens the colours. Any tips on that?
Hi Mina! No, I never did that on my projects. I use good quality paper and glue and my projects still look good after a lot of time. Quick tip: keep quilling projects away from direct sun; this will prevent the colors from getting lighten.

How did you know where to put the outline?
Hi! In the beginning of my project, I draw the shape on the letter on the paper, then I erased it a little bit so it won't be too visible. This helps me knowing where to add the strips, it works as a guideline for the letter. Hope this helps :)
how did you get the shape of the letter on the paper before you started gluing the outline?
I type the letter in a text editor on my computer, then I place the sheet of paper on my computer screen and copy the shape. Or you can print the letter directly on your sheet of paper.

Thank you. It is important for the base to use thicker paper that won't curl itself when you glue the quilling shapes inside the letter.

There are a lot of online shops that sell crafts supplies including paper quilling, glue etc, everything you need for paper quilling.
What size are your strips
Hi, Debbie! I use different sizes in my projects. I am not sure what I used here, probably 3 mm or 5 mm wide strips of paper. If I want to have a delicate project I use 3 mm wide strips. Hope this helps! :)

I use a quilling needle tool but you can use anything sharp, like a toothpick.

Hi, why do you erase the paper at the beginning? Do you lightly draw the letter on the paper? I can't see it but I assume you do.
Yes, i draw the letter using a pencil then i erase it until it remains the shadow of the letter. I erase it so that when the glue dries the lines will not be visible. Of course, you can softly draw the letter at the beginning so you won't have to erase it afterwards. 😊

😊 that's what i was saying when i first discovered quilling. But now i can say that it is really simple. Why not give it a try?
don't like this technique for a number of reasons:
your paper strips for the S should be thicker or the line of the S will wobble as it does in your example.
u use too much glue and do not clean the excess of well enough. the glue excess can be seen after drying which is not pretty!
the connections between the strips are too visible. they should be made at the intersections or sharp corners of the S, not in the middle of a big curve.

what kind of glue do you use?
I use a glue that is special for paper crafts; it dries fast and transparent.
