I've been playing RPGs since Ultima games - back when I could hardly read - and Baldur's Gate was one of those that set standarts for other games. People talk about Skyrim: sure, it has fancy bling bling, but it is nowhere near as epic as modern day hype-fanboys claim it to be. Those same people see games like Baldur's Gate and are like "dude that haz shit graphiks! who can play that shit!" - games had soul back then, even if they aren't visually impressive today. Skyrim doesn't have that spirit
"Said to have assaulted the Abyss itself"...How flipping awesome can one man be? Even the biggest baddest guys are lovable in this story... Awesome, awesome game.
Same franchise and same unjverse, right? Haer'Dalis is from the Planes. Sarevok would have little choice *but* to assault the Abyss to be fair. He would be trapped there otherwise.
Or he,as it said, didn't know himself and seeking her grave seemed the best option at the time. If you are confused or empty, you go towards whatever might help you gain clarity or start you toward clarity, right?
Sarevok was my favorite party member... He was wise and from an evil point of view, I think his plan was the best... Let pretend he would have killed the protagonist when he killed gorion or even join together... He would have ended up with an army... one hell of an army and baldurs gate as his stronghold during the war.. maybe enough to compet with the fives and in the end reach his goal..
hilariously they actually reached out to him and he called them a bunch of worthless weaklings for banding together to try and achieve the goal while a true lord of Murder should be able to do it all by their own hands and will. Warranted...without the player characters, Irenicus would've captured him instead. He was already watching Sarevok (and was apparently living Baldur's Gate at the time with the Noble Woman Tanova until he grew tired of her and gave her to Bodhi to play with) until you came on the scene and decided to wait and see how things played out, since he was only interested in the strongest bhaal spawn.
ZanathKariashi Yeah, if we consider the events during Siege of Dragonspear, it seemed that Irenicus was over Sarevok before 'Charname' defeated him at Baldur's Gate.
I kind of love how several characters dont get happy endings. Just makes it all seem more epic and real (obviously something with elves and magic isnt going to be that realistic but I'm sure you know what I mean).
The last sentence always makes me sad :/. This is how epic story ends, leaving emptyness behind - knowing there just can't be continuation. This is the best game of my childhood and even though I have played tons of games until now, Baldur's Gate Saga is still my top 1 of all times.
Actually they didn't, there was a supplemental book made some time ago that was sadly made canon and in that book Sarevok turned evil again. Their inclusion of him in the game may not be the best, but let's not lay blame on them for WOTC being very stupid, as usual.
@@chaptermasterdomitheus5867 Sarevok in that book was a drug addict and as i remember in that book jaheira was dead as per Wotc canon, obviously they didnt follow the canon completely for some reason, so shifting the blame on wotc doesnt cut it, larian is mostly at fault for the depiction of Sarevok in bg3.
@@Rogan35 Im sorry but that's just not true. The book Im referencing is called "MInsc and Boo's journal of villainy" and in said book, Sarevok becomes a beggar after his time as an adventurer brought him no joy. Then when Bhaal is revived, he finds Sarevok and recruits him to be his high priest and also restored his Bhaalspawn nature. So no, Larian didn't fuck this up, it was WOTC.
@@Rogan35No, that is Larian's I believe. Not a fan of that choice, but it probably is their attempt at making Sarevok utterly repellent. Could be seen as a "Well if he has to be the bad guy, then let's make him as vile as possible."
So Abdel Adrian died. And Bhaal is back, stronger than ever,as a greater deity..So a possible sequel must be in order. How about Sarevok as the main character?!The very last of the bloodline. The most vicious. The most intimidating, the most dangerous..Kevin Michael Richardson's voice is amazing for the main character! So,Sarevok with poor Cespenar.Together.Nobody ever explained what happened to the cutest sweetest harmless imp..
I have seen people suggest similar things with other franchises, such as mass effect. One suggestion I keep seeing is "let us play as Garrus!". But that would destroy the spirit of a role playing game, erasing the need for character creation and it would be boring. NO thanks, I'll pass on playing as Sarevok, and leave him dead for his rotten deeds A sequal though, for sequal's sake, would be awesome
***** It would be awesome. And nowadays such a probability would be cheap too, since the game workings are old and obsolete..so if a company was to use the same platform to create a game, changing of course the graphics but maintaining the gameplay of the olone, the expense would be very limited. Also that company could be based on a kickstarter to create perfection, once again, without using their own money. But i strongly doubt that..who knows though. They are about to release another planescape torment game so..one can only hope.
@1989Texaz2008 Personally, I would go back and play the original before I played a remake. Something about those beautifully detailed 2d backgrounds. It could never be recreated to par.
maaan I miss the old times sometimes.....this game was and still is a big emotional part of my life! But now when I play the game it is not like the first time, back it was much more intense, I wonder why.....
You CANNOT compare Mass Effect or Elder Scrolls to this game. It doesn't feel right to do so in my opinion. Everything is fixed in both ME AND ES but BG has no bounds. Anyone can die at anytime. Key characters at that...
Thanks. I'm at a loss on what I can possibly upload next. I was going to upload sound sets from the series for each character (Minsc's was legendary) but I wasn't happy with the results.
I don't know what else to create and upload. I was thinking something that includes the highly memorable sound clips from random characters and enemies in the games, but I don't know what exactly. And yes, I'll be getting Dragon Age: Origins, although it comes out in the UK on Friday.
Lol no new replies in years, so I'm probably posting this to deaf ears... or rather, blind eyes. Anyway, I recently beat BG1, and after all the years I've played these games, I didn't know you could spare Tamoko and let her live on the final encounter you have with her. I chose that option this time, and on the dialogue option you tell her there's no point in you killing her because she's already dead and that if she wanted to die that she would have to take her own life, that you were not going to needlessly kill her. Not only did she respect you for your restrain, but it broke her heart even more because she felt that what made Sarevok the way he was was his heritage; however, in showing that restrain, it also showed her that Sarevok -- the man -- simply was beyond saving and was what he is by choice. Apparently she does kill herself then, which makes this epilogue -- and their romance -- that much more tragic.
Oh, and I also wanted to say that those years ago, when these games first came out and I had beat the saga for the first time, I got teary-eyed and shed a couple of tears -- tears I tried to fight back lol. That and the FFX ending are the only two games that got me emotional like that. The music to these epilogues don't help, either.
Is this the ending for both version of Saverok chaotic evil AND chaotic good? Is it hard to turn him into Chaotic Good? My party is mostly good with reputation 18 , does he will leave have to much reputation?
There is only one epilogue for Sarevok. There may be a second one in Ascension though. Changing his alignment appears to do nothing to the ending in the original game.
I think it was actually perfect for him... He planed his entire life for becoming a god, he thought that it's his fate and that gave him a purpose to live. When he came back to the living, he joined the main character perhaps because it also, gave another purpose to him existences. Once it was all over, he was left with nothing....
honestly just looking at these again makes me want to write bioware and be like REMAKE THEM ALL IN DRAGON AGE GRAPHICS!! update the systems add more customization and a deeper morality system and re sell that. people would eat it all back up
@Narania234 Would it be self-righteous, judgmental, pompous and condescending of me to suggest that claiming a video game story is a "huge blow" against the people you hate with such unreserved viciousness is pretty silly?
Skyrim has a lot of spirit and plenty of epic moments. Sadly though regardless of being a masterpiece in terms of world exploration and game mechanics, it seems characters in the Elder Scrolls games(or even Bethesda's in general) are not very memorable. Bioware set a standard with quality characters, one that is not easily met.
@Musabre Indeed. I spent less time than that thankfully, but still... fuckin' hell, lol. I wish the guy who uploaded this video looked after the comment section and cleaned out that crap.
There are 2 endings for Sarevok (I believe, if not so, more) One is him turning Chaotic Good and one is him staying Chaotic Evil. Only way to turn him into Chaotic Good would be not letting him swear an oath in the very beginning
I just spent 5 minutes reading possibly the stupidest argument/ramble I've seen all week in these comments. Jesus, i thought 'I' was a bit of a nerd when it came to baldurs gate trivia.... but fuck me..... xD
Sleep well guys,i'm fine ;)
One thing to say for all you Sarevok haters out there.
Deathbringer Assault
This ending really hit a chord with me, it's so tragic. Being alone and wandering the world, your only love dead - what's worse?
He may have at last found that small measure of peace that all of us seek, and few of us ever find...
I've been playing RPGs since Ultima games - back when I could hardly read - and Baldur's Gate was one of those that set standarts for other games. Too bad he gave up on redemption and went back to Bhaal, canonically.
Rest in peace bro.

Reminds me of Planescape Torment though

Girls: I can't believe he didn't even cry at the end of Titanic? Do guys even have feelings?
Guys watching Sarevok's ending: ..............
I never expected this ending. I thought Sarevok cared little for Tomoko but I was wrong he does care. :)
Her name is Tamoko not Tomoko.
Or he,as it said, didn't know himself and seeking her grave seemed the best option at the time. If you are confused or empty, you go towards whatever might help you gain clarity or start you toward clarity, right?
And then they threw it all away in 3 and made him…that. As good as that game otherwise is, I’ll never forgive Larian for it.

I might be wrong, but didn't the mad spiderwoman in the forest say Irenicus turned her into that after she killed Tanova? See the charmed dialogues

I know what you mean
"terrified locals weren't sure whom to fear more"
Great enemy and great blood brother.
(wipes tear) we salute you, sary. we salute you.
'Salute' in the sense of an Actual salute of admiration and respect or Salute in the sense of "An Axe across ye Skull"

I just finished BG1, it is quite alarming Sarevok had emotions.
I will enjoy revisiting his character when i get far into the game.
Best BG2 song, by far!!!
Aw, I always knew Sarevok wasn't such a bad guy, despite that BG 1 intro
An appropriate ending to a memorable character.
Rest in peace brother
Rest in peace brother.
He is my favourite! I prefer him being a bad guy, I always play with evil characters. It's a pity there is no Sarevok romance. T.T
Sarevok deserved a better ending in my opinion.
I mean it isn't even effected by whether his alignment is changed, thats just silly.
