  • Local Linlithgow author and historian Bruce Jamieson tells the story of the sad fate of Lady Margaret Drummond. The "Mistress" possible first wife of James IV of Scotland who in 1501. She died of food poisoning, along with her sisters Eupheme and Sibylla, while staying at Drummond Castle after eating the same meal. The three sisters are buried together in Dunblane Cathedral, their graves can still be seen in front of the altar.
    After her death James IV paid for masses to be said for her soul, and continued to support their daughter Margaret Stewart who's second husband James V of Scotland made Forester of the Royal Forest of Glenartney in Strathearn. In a charter he made Innerpeffray a free barony in 1536 that recognised Margaret Stewart as "sororis regis", the sister of the king.
