After watching your video, I felt confident. ordered a set and installed myself. Members on the forum complained about the whistling noise. On the bottoms of the feet are marked front and rear... found that the fat side of the cross bar mounted forward worked the best for me. Looks great like you said..

Hi Berry, I'm wondering if you boat cross bars directly from Kia, or another brand? I just bought some that said they are compatible, but they seem too short. Frustrating! It doesn't appear to be adjustable, but I could be wrong?
Any time you are ordering parts, make sure it says original placement or exact replacement parts. There are a lot of companies that sell 3rd party items that are more universal and do not always fit. I am sorry you are having this issue. Hopefully you can return them and get some to fit. Good luck and thanks for watching.

Hi. I installed the cross bars tonight and they seem secure but I can hear some squeaking type noise when I drive. Think they just need to tightened more? I can't shake them, but I do hear a rattling while driving.

Don't the cross bars mess with the aerodynamics or make noise while driving? Would it be better to just put on roof rails and attach things as needed, or just put these rails on as needed?
Sorry to bother you again with this, Berry, but you were so helpful in my installing the crossbars four months ago that I was hoping you might have an easy answer for my "lock" problem. Two of the four locks turn freely, so I was able to tighten down the anchor screws this past week. However, on the other two, I cannot even budge the locks, and since the keys that come with the kit are hardly "high quality", I fear breaking a key in the lock if I keep making the effort. Live in Central Florida, so neither cold nor snow/sleet issues are a potential. Seemingly just the passage of time. Any thoughts on how I can loosen the lock to make the key work properly? Thank you!!
Yes I do, you could get some PB Blaster or even WD-40. I like PB Blaster because its much stronger and tends to penetrate much better. Do you think its possible that you cross threaded it when you installed it? Let me know the results and I can give you other things to try. Good luck!!
Berry Meherg Thank you, again, Berry! I didn't see my question actually post, so I thought I had failed in some way to submit it. Not wanting to bother you anew, I called the Rola number on the paperwork I received. I happened to have one of the types of "light lubricant" that the gentleman suggested, so I gave it a shot with sewing machine oil (I use it on the bearings in my rollerblade wheels). Worked like a charm! BTW, the reason I did NOT accidentally cross-thread was because of the detail provided in your video. THANK YOU - and have a great weekend!
If anyone experiences wind noise or whistling the bars are not installed correctly. Look for the tiny arrows on the underside of the rack near where it attaches to the car. The arrows should point to the front of the vehicle.

I went from Maine through Canada and down to Alabama for Christmas last year and that total trip was over 4k miles! I averaged 37 MPG on that trip because I was doing 80 MPH most of the way:-) I can get up to low 40s if I baby it. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Family member has a 2008 or so Rio. At around 20,000 miles she had engine oil changed at the dealership before driving about 200 miles to come visit us. Right before leaving I checked oil and nothing was on the stick ! (Out of oil) as drain plug had been left loose! If it was me (As a auto tech for many years) I would have DEMANDED dealership pay to have it flatbeded and oil pan and rod caps removed to see if rod bearings, the crank had sustained any damage. (Putting a gauge on it would be a alternative, but I'd demand they pull pan and visually inspect as a way of teaching them not to be sloppy.) She didn't want to do that so tightened drain plug and topped it up with oil. 8 years later she's still driving the car, and it has like 275,000 miles on it. Oh, the only thing she ever brought to my attention that needing to be fixed was driver side door cable release which the cable had broken. Fixed that for about $2 via some cable crimps and some epoxy about 6 years ago. *Note: If crank bearings had been oil starved for even a second it would have spun the rods bearings. Guess the point is car has around 275,000 mile on it without anything major breaking.
very reliable car, our 2010 already has 165,000 mi and its not had any malfunction. did have timing belt replaced at 125k so i wouldnt have to worry about it breaking later. we were so happy with this model, we got rid of our volvo and bought another one. just like our older soul, this one has 10yr/100,000 mi bumper to bumper warranty.

I'm freaked by the specificity of the torque requirements for the bolts in the included instructions. Haven't had a torque wrench since I used change my own plugs 40 years ago. Any comment on how tight I should screw down the bolts with the included allen wrench? e.g. Snug plus ½ turn? Pull on that wrench with all my might? Something else? Barry looks like he's making them snug without grunting :-)

Yes it does whistle most of the time. I have been thinking of trying some different things to quite it down. Like strips of tape, because I know when it is wet it does not make any noise. Thank to Berry meherg about crossbar and hitch. I buyed new kia soul 2014 of May so I find out my self about save gas. Someone hit crash my truck damager so They were high pay me that my truck lost sad.
My Soul has the removable tabs on the passenger side roof rail but not the drivers side. Anyone with same problem that has still been able to install the cross bars?
UPDATE: I have an 2018 and it's not quite as simple as this video makes it out to be. PLEASE READ the instructions before you do anything. There is a front and a back bar (yes there is a difference) and they have to be mounted in a certain way (load bearing instructions have to be on the correct side. While this video is helpful, it is misleading to make you think it is this simple. Perhaps with the 2014's is was this simple, but not anymore!
That could very well be true, and a very good point to always read the directions yourself on anything you install. 4 years can make a big difference and I do not recall mine having any load bearing issues. Of course all I carried on mine was a bike. Good luck with yours and thanks for watching and posting that information.
You need to take off the strip and attach the roof rack to the bracket underneath the strip instead of to the strip. That roof rack will come down in no time.

How the heck do u get those inserts back in? I took one off and can't get the darn thing back.
Probably best if you applied at least medium strength loctite before screwing them down. helps to keep them in place even with excessive vibration.

*Note: If crank bearings had been oil starved for even a second it would have spun the rods bearings. Guess the point is car has around 275,000 mile on it without anything major breaking.
very reliable car, our 2010 already has 165,000 mi and its not had any malfunction. did have timing belt replaced at 125k so i wouldnt have to worry about it breaking later. we were so happy with this model, we got rid of our volvo and bought another one. just like our older soul, this one has 10yr/100,000 mi bumper to bumper warranty.

I'm freaked by the specificity of the torque requirements for the bolts in the included instructions. Haven't had a torque wrench since I used change my own plugs 40 years ago. Any comment on how tight I should screw down the bolts with the included allen wrench? e.g. Snug plus ½ turn? Pull on that wrench with all my might? Something else? Barry looks like he's making them snug without grunting :-)
Samuel O'Keefe First of all thank you for watching my video. I've always liked the snug plus half a turn myself if there are no other torque specifications included. I periodically check mine and so far they haven't gotten loose at all. Good luck on installing yours and thanks again.

How many miles did you have on your 300? Mine just turned 100k and it is a 2007 2.7L. I was thinking I should got a new car too.
I had just hit over 120k. I like to get rid of cars BEFORE they start having issues rather than during or after:-)

any wind noise or whistling at all?
Do you notice any wind noise from the cross bars?
Yes it does whistle most of the time. I have been thinking of trying some different things to quite it down. Like strips of tape, because I know when it is wet it does not make any noise. I am pretty much use to it now though but it would be nice to get it quite. Thank you for watching and commenting! If I figure out how to get it quite I will post a video.

Thank to Berry meherg about crossbar and hitch. I buyed new kia soul 2014 of May so I find out my self about save gas. Someone hit crash my truck damager so They were high pay me that my truck lost sad.

Kia Soul:-) Great car for less than $15k and I can get 40+ MPG on the highway and I can tow my ATV with it.
What is the bolt size
I tried installing on my kia but 2018 but it looks like screws a bit to fat. And I don't see threads in the anchor part.

My Soul has the removable tabs on the passenger side roof rail but not the drivers side. Anyone with same problem that has still been able to install the cross bars?
UPDATE: I have an 2018 and it's not quite as simple as this video makes it out to be. PLEASE READ the instructions before you do anything. There is a front and a back bar (yes there is a difference) and they have to be mounted in a certain way (load bearing instructions have to be on the correct side. While this video is helpful, it is misleading to make you think it is this simple. Perhaps with the 2014's is was this simple, but not anymore!
That could very well be true, and a very good point to always read the directions yourself on anything you install. 4 years can make a big difference and I do not recall mine having any load bearing issues. Of course all I carried on mine was a bike. Good luck with yours and thanks for watching and posting that information.
You need to take off the strip and attach the roof rack to the bracket underneath the strip instead of to the strip. That roof rack will come down in no time.

I know:-( I needed something that got batter gas mileage and this gets 36-46 depending on much I baby it. Plus mine was getting up there in miles too, I will have a new one some day:-)
