No job??? You're a farmer AND a content creator. Harriet, I really enjoyed the format of answering questions and also tending the land. The fruit trees are just so beautiful. I hope the goats return resplendently pregnant!

Dear Harriett, you definitely have a job! It's just not a tech job. You went from librarian/ English literature to a teaching and tech job to now being a farmer and online video content creator and editor. And you're bloody good at it :) It's just another career really, and you are doing amazingly well! I started following you very close to your beginning, I think at the time, you had about 600 subs and now a year later, look how many people are following your journey, over 55K! I'm always amazed at how you freely dive in into any of your projects, how much tenacity you have, and how you grow and learn from your mistakes. So yes, it's definitely another career change, but from my pov, you seem to excel at what you set your mind up to :)
I think a garden market is a real possibility, or even becoming your own seed distributor. But like you say, you really don't have to rush at it either. Keep it up, because you are definitely doing great! I love seeing your videos and thankful for them. Very inspiring.

Harriet never apologize for your choices. I have been a homemaker our whole 49 year marriage and my work although not paid employment is still an honorable thing in society. My husband could have never afforded to pay for the many jobs I do. Tech will be very different in just a few years if trends continue. We will all be learning new things. You work preparing to feed yourselves and others will be universal. I’m proud of you young people for stepping away from the rat race and forging a new path. Blessings from Canada 🇨🇦

I have watched most of your videos and you are adapting quickly to be a good ole farm hand. In the beginning you seemed less confident but now you just jump right in. Personally I believe you are on an incredible life adventure. 70 now and when I look back, I have definitely taken the path less travelled so many new things to learn. That’s why you will be successful, you are doing what you love and it shows with your enthusiasm to tackle difficult and physically demanding tasks.

Great videos Harriet. As each one is a revelation into your lifestyle, so I don't have any top questions. As It is best to have the "watch and see" approach. I have done some catching up on previously made shows, mostly because I am still "new" to your channel. (Since July). And probably feel any questions may have already been answered by you. You are living the dream for sure. As I can only wish to be in that position. As I am in Nova Scotia Canada, and with winter approaching, I love the whole sunny Spanish exposure life. As I must wait again for summer. It is amazing you are so self sufficient, and bring joy to the screen with your accomplishments. Your ability to speak such fluent Spanish is so impressive. A real wonder women. But to get down with the farm, as here in Nova Scotia, Major Crops being Apples(Honeycrisps), Blueberries, Grapes. Always the giant pumpkins, PEI Potatoes. Maybe some turkeys or pheasants, Who knows? Try sending you some seeds or something, to see if they can grow there. But just the same, You and Mauro are always busy getting to the next level. It will be interesting to see where it will lead. Ok, thanks again, talk again sometime. Scott 🍎

As far as we know we only have one life and I think it is important to make something meaningful of our time on earth. Too many people run around like ants never asking themselves what they want with their life or where they are going. Too much of life is about having a career, making a lot of money and buying a lot of possessions that we don't really need and that won't make us feel fulfilled or happy. There are other choices to be made, another way of living to be found where you use your creativity to create a simpler life built with your own hands. You've found something that make you feel happy and excited and I can just congratulate you to that!

It is difficult because we are so programmed to think of a life/work balance, of gainful employment, of money and a "job" And what if life is work and work is life? What if nothing feels like work and everything is just focussed on living? And what if that living is mostly fun and always rewarding? I think you are well on your way to finding a "life". These are socially challenging times and you are bravely following an instinct that you may not always understand but it is taking you on a clear and unequivocal path, from which there is really no satisfying return, and one which will provide infinite satisfaction and happiness. The difficulty is in letting go of comparative benchmarks with others who only dream. You are learning and you are doing it! Keep following your hearts and you will thrive with the challenges and rewards! Enjoy!!!

Haha I would love to talk more about TH-cam because its been such a fun journey and I'm loving making the videos but I didn't want to go on about it too much 😂 i am happy to answer any specific questions, as for the earnings, it is very variable but an average month probably makes us an extra €300 which is a lovely bonus but not an alternative to a "normal" job at the moment so I don't like to count on it.

I suggest u define main branches first. not just single one. short is ok but several yet short better. now they will grow, u can keep couple pods of new branches and then tipped them. new growth mainly at the end, so each tipping give u doubling or tripling. eventually u can get a round shape)

Hi Harriet and Mauro, I’m hoping y’all are well and safe in this crazy world and accomplishing your goals and dreams. Q: how did the repair job on roof and chimney work? Has your watering source now working better since you opened the little gates or repaired them and is your driveway over the water culvert still holding up after you repaired it? Harriet, I send encouragement for you, your kitchen is the heart of your home and you and Mario would enjoy it so much more if it’s enclosed for warmth, no bugs or animals or even people coming into your nutritional sanctuary. Right now start with your windows and door, that’s enough for winter improvements, your fireplace in the kitchen will give you much comfort for the winter. This is encouragement only, no judgment because you know your abilities and products available to you. Much love to all, be well and safe.❤🎄❄️and Merry Christmas season

From where you both began to now, changes seem to be beneficial. Ducks, hmm they can be escape artist or get into places you will get down on your belly to get them out. 😂
If you have one, a garden journal helps with keeping a record of what you've learned, what you want to learn, and what didn't work out quite the way you thought. Computers are ok, but I find writing them out seems to get the information solidified in my head, visualize it.
Pre-plan the ducks, where they will live best, etc.
Mauro looks satisfied, almost content. Good!

Hi, Harriet and Mauro, another great video. It was a great insight into what you are doing, and your future plans seem very achievable.
One suggestion, if you are going to get mules or donkey's get a pair as they do get lonely.
You're working currently! Establishing the groundwork for a future market stall or fruit boxes is full time work and the effort in the property will pay it forward. Opportunities will present themselves. Wishing you good luck with all your endeavors.

Interesting! I didn't know you were both into software development. I worked as an AI scientist myself for the last few years and since a month have quit my job to travel through Spain indefinitely and volunteer (WWOOF) on various farms. I hope to eventually move here and buy a property of my own wherever I like it most (which I hope to find out by WWOOFing :)). Especially the question about internet is something I have been wondering about for a long time. If you ever need a helping hand on some project I'd be happy to come by! I'm sure we'd get along ;)

Ah awesome! Hope you find your dream place in Spain hehe. I can personally vouch for Castellón. One of the questions which got lost in the misc section was about volunteering here. We are open to short stays so if you ever want to pop by and see things first hand and explore the area, definitely get in touch 😊

      @LittleSpanishFarmstead  ปีที่แล้ว

Aw, thank you! With the tech stuff, I recommend starting with the free courses on HTML and CSS on Codecademy and see if you like them. You could then try the free JavaScript stuff they have, see how that goes. At some point, if you find you like it and wanna continue, I would honestly say that it's worth it to find a good quality bootcamp-type course and study intensively for 3 months or so. That's what I did, in 2016. I think the job market has cooled somewhat since then but a good quality course with good job placement rates was totally worth the investment for me.

Aw yes there were some great questions about the language and the move to Spain which got lost in the 'misc' section. Well Mauro's family live near here, so that's what brought us to this region, and as for the language, I spent a good 4 years studying and taking conversation classes in the UK, reading books etc. And here, I have improved a lot by speaking and listening to people in real life!

Please look into "Earth Cooled" green houses! Benefit is yr round constant temp! $2500 (or cheaper depending on source of materials) done as DIY. Kirsten Dirksen is TH-camr with lots of info. She has a story about an 80 yr old Nebraska, USA gentleman. He grows oranges yr round even with 6' snow drifts outside. Right now it's probably not practical, due to cost! But over time it pays for itself! Just sharing an idea! My mother was a Librarian while she was in college! I'm a European mutt. German, Swiss, Irish, and Spanish! So I'm 1/4 Hispanic= Anglo from Spain! Lol

You need to aquire a black rooster! For some reason birds of prey mistake them for Ravens and won't bother the chickens as much or even at all! Even a Black Hen would work! However if they don't have chicks to protect, they're not as aggressive! I suggest 1 of each! Lol
