So primal... Yet, anyone can relate to this song. So very emotinal and it must be kept for future generations, I'm very grateful for TH-cam. His story was so sad, no one can imagine. These were really tough folks.
For those getting on the Zep bashing train, there's some mild justification, but most are ignorant of all the facts. The thing was, blues music was a traditional medium, where folk songs were passed from one generation to another. There's was no such thing as crediting a person or group for a song. Blind Willie Johnson didn't even write the song. He was simply the first to record it, thus Zep not crediting him on the album. Copyright effectively privatized what used to be common property. Example: No one could sensibly claim that Simon and Garfunkel wrote the traditional folk song “Scarborough Fair”, but they did in fact copyright the arrangement and they get the royalties every time the song is performed. Big Joe Williams didn’t write “Baby Please Don’t Go” but gets the royalties because his name is on the credits - making up for all the songs he did write but never got paid for. Zep often changed songs so drastically or created an entirely unique song based on a riff or lyric (see The Lemon Song), it would be hard to tell the original at all without a nod to previous lyrics. If the title and lyrics to Nobody's Fault But Mine were change, no one would have a clue what the song is based on, since it's based in a blues progression that is extremely common. You can’t copyright Bo Diddley’s shuffle (otherwise The Smiths would owe Diddley money for “How Soon Is Now”). You can’t copyright the chord progressions of 12 bar blues, or a particular guitar lick. If someone had, then no bluesman would be able to play anything without a lawsuit being flung in their direction. So now that you've been educated, stop littering TH-cam comments sections with your inanities. It's getting real old and boring. Thanks.
White person describes why it's OK that white people stole black music and didn't credit them or give them royalties until they are forced to through lawsuits and music fans calling bands on their bull. True music fans know and acknowledge the history of music and black people's contributions to it instead of trying to ignore or white wash the history.

This song is one of my favorite tunes of all times but it sickens me that they didn't give any credit to Mr Johnson, he was a great musician who wrote alot of amazing songs and he deserves to be acknowledged.
Nah man Zeppelin took this shit to a whole other level, something blind Willie a bluesman himself would have been proud of and vice versa as Zeppelin admiration of the song created a whole new vision becoming the 1976 version on their "Presence" album. Give credit where the talent is due.
Zep tried to steal this one and got caught--- Led Zeppelin releases list the songwriters as guitarist Jimmy Page and singer Robert Plant, however, group chronicler Dave Lewis commented: "The Page/Plant credit here is a little misleading as Blind Willie Johnson may well have been under the impression that he wrote the lyrics back in 1928, a fact that Robert acknowledged when introducing the track on stage in Copenhagen in 1979.

Led Zep owes credit to a lot of these great Blues artists. They ripped off a lot of old blues songs.
led zepplin raped the blues, they stole, twisted and distorted. they wont ever do the right thing
