    Hey guys, I just want to clarify that the stock Panasonic Q is NOT region free and cannot play NA or EU games. You would need to have your console modded to play games from those regions. I wasn't completely sure when I made this video because the one I bought happened to be modded already. Hope this helps :)

      It does, thank you! FYI you can 3D print the plastic rails inside if your DVD mounting breaks, and should replace the tray belt while you're in there. Be forewarned, it can take a few hours to take it apart if you're not familiar with the internals.
      Additionally, this guy illustrates the original gamecube player hardware is compatible with the Q if you remove the plastic housing! th-cam.com/video/yrWjvPA-B3U/w-d-xo.html
      I use DVD's ocassionally, but I'm a laserdisc collector so I actually watch the grandaddy of DVD's lol.

    The Panasonic Q was a Panasonic product first and foremost(thus the omission of the Nintendo logo). Panasonic supplied the DVD drive and media of the Gamecube. As part of the deal, Nintendo licenced Panasonic to release a DVD player with Gamecube functionality. The only thing weird about this collaboration is how Panasonic designed the Q. Also, Panasonic earns only on the hardware and DVD media(Gamecube Discs) side of things thus reflected on the price of the Q.

    Most likely the Orange Gamecube actually came from Japan and the Q was most likely modded with an English BIOS and was somehow able to bypass the NTSC-J region lock.

    That power cord is extremely common, it comes with the PlayStation 3 and 4, some newer tv's, laptops, and probably alot of other things. If you don't get one with a Panasonic cube, just go to gamestop and ask for a PlayStation power cord.

      DannyD_ 4.6 that will fry the console those cables are 240v i think. The Q needs 110

    • @dandanthebabyman
      @dandanthebabyman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gyarados Productions didn’t know that 2 years ago or even now, but thanks for clearing that up 🙏

      @poketom6087 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DannyD_ 4.6 haha yeah i found out the hard way😂 but yes the cable will fit the Q but the voltage is too high, you need a adapter or a 110v to be safe.

    • @dandanthebabyman
      @dandanthebabyman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gyarados Productions not the way I’d wanna learn that, hopefully you didn’t fry the entire console lol

    What if this was the original model of the gamecube if nintendo didn't make mini DVDs for the system in general.

    What happens when you put in a DVD in the Panasonic Q while you are in the Gamecube Menu? Will it just say "the disc cannot be read" or will there be a special massage?

    Every Panasonic Q's I have seen all the menus are in Japanese. The game Cube must have been modified to NA region. This would cause the menus to change to English.

    Can it be used in Europe/Australia without a voltage converter?

    • @thebalb
      @thebalb  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't believe so. US/JP voltages are a lot different. Fortunately,, the AC adapter is is common.

    Although the Panasonic Q looks like an interesting collector’s piece, I can still play my DVDs and CDs on many different devices. I prefer Blu-ray over DVD by the way, that’s why I get more BDs than DVDs. I sometimes get DVDs (though I think DVD players should go out of production in favour of Blu-ray players, it’s just my personal opinion. In the future, I predict less DVDs and more Blu-rays to be seen in stores) and I still buy CDs (I buy mostly metal, anime and video game soundtracks). Don’t forget that PS3 and PS4 are excellent DVD/Blu-ray players.

  • @VinchVolt
    @VinchVolt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    "Who uses DVDs anymore?"
    People who don't have a good enough internet connection to warrant using streaming platforms and people who prefer physical media but can't/aren't willing to buy Blu-ray discs; there's also the fact that there's still a disproportionately high amount of titles on DVD-Video compared to Blu-ray.

    • @thebalb
      @thebalb  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry for the late reply but I agree with you. There are definitely people out there who still watch DVDs for many different reasons. I regret bringing that up as a knock against the Panasonic Q, though I do still believe there are many better options available for watching DVDs than the Q :)

      I can't remember the last time i bought a DVD movie. I buy digital movies and back them up to my external HDD.

  • @BushidoBrownSama
    @BushidoBrownSama 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Since DVD & CD player won't display through the digital AV connector I can only imagine that there are 2 separate systems one that's a standard Game Cube the other a DVD/CD player, & both are MUXed together through the Video RAMDAC/Encoder so both can output analog video through the same ports
    If so it's a flawed merger of the 2 functionalities, if it were up to me I'd make the CD/DVD Player a standard GC App developed to run on standard Game Cube hardware but stored on Flash Rom

    Wrong original xbox din't came with dvd playback out of the box you have to buy a dvd playback kit for 20$ to watch dvd

    • @BushidoBrownSama
      @BushidoBrownSama 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      all that kit does is unlock the ability to play DVDs the software & hardware to do so was already there the kit is just a license for end user to play DVDs, it's all about the royalties
