    Tag 2 faces, Tag 2 hairs, Tag 2 body-varaiations and Tag 2's attention to detail was and is amazing to this day. The characters faces even had certain wrinkles when making certain facial expressions!
    Some girls even had cheek dimples in Tag 2!

      I will say that the techniques Tag 2 used to model hair is a bit better and the way it's done in T7 is a sign that the engine was new to them at the time. Only exceptions are some like the Mishimas (but they're really close to Tag 2's in terms of quality) and Anna (Anna's hair never looked right till T7, strangely enough)

Noctis in T7 is using strands hair like makes noticable shimmering if using lower resolution also makes hairs looks inconsistent when meeting tekken characters (maybe the character is likely imported from ffxv game model with detailed hair, idk). Other games at the time T7 release also has many weird looking hairs, example with same engine, Street Fighter V sculpted hair is very rigid and really looks off in motion compares to sf4 that surprisingly still looks fine and more dynamic. Also has inconsistent design for example ken strange simple shaped "banana" looking hair compares to G detailed strands beard really puts me off.

    At 1st I thought I would come out of this video with a definitive answer, but after some Tag 2 models look better than the T7 ones and vice versa, But you mostly see the T7 models beating out the tag 2 models in 2 places - the T7 models look better usually when it's the characters that were added later on, and the other area is clothing and body modeling.
    But Tag 2 models usually beat the T7 models when it comes to facial models/facial expressions and natural-looking skin(with a few characters), Because when you compare Lili from Tag 2 to her T7 counterpart, it looks like she's had a hangover in T7! her facial model is rough in T7.

    What i really like in T7, the character’s eyes actually focus towards the target instead of just the head tracking, the best example was Alisa, Zafina and Lars which have them looking at their sides almost. I’ve always wanted an upclose look on that for fighting games, this really is a good video. Also Yoshi’s TTT2 armor is better

  • @WTFHAX93
    @WTFHAX93 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    The biggest elephant in the room in the T7 models is the hair. It just doesn't blend into the model. Like at all. It's like they made the base models bald first, and then just slid on a wig that looks like their hairstyle. Also, the body types for most of the characters got heavily homogenized. The only things that T7 did better IMO is the bears having actual fur now, instead of it just being a texture (and because of that, their models are quite heavy on the FPS), Marshall's scars making a comeback (even though he's way too buff for what he's supposed to represent), Miguel's face, and some texture work (especially Marduk's ink, they actually look like tattoos now, instead of looking like body paint). Devil Jin's face in T7 is way too soft, and his white eyes are not even that visible anymore (they really popped off in T5 or even had a slightly glowy appearance in T6). Also, Eddy has been prettified too much. His Tag 2 facial model looks great, and actually looks like a dark skinned dude. In T7 he looks like a white guy that has been heavily tanned. Which is a shame, since his T7 outfit is so damn good.

    Considering TTT2 is a PS3 game and T7 is a PS4 game, i’d argue T7 is rather unimpressive. It doesn’t necessarily look much better than a game that came out a whole generation before it.

      Like all recent fg sequels released on the PS4 gen. Except only MK11 and GGS, none of them look like solid next gen updates that are making good use of the new tech and hardware. Not that they look bad (with very few exceptions), it's just that they are poor next gen updates - like compared to TK5 to TK6 or MKA to MK9.

    • @dastanbastan9621
      @dastanbastan9621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      That's because Tekken 7 is a PS4 game with PS3 polycount for pretty much everything on the screen. Character models has around 35000 triangles in them on average when even stuff like Dead or Alive 5(a PS3 game!) pushed over 100000 triangles per fighter with no slowdowns. Same for stages, we've got a PS4 game with angular pillars, angular arches, angular tree trunks, ect. Yes, lighting, materials, draw distance and number of objects on the scene is very PS4-like in Tekken 7, but embarrassingly low polycounts simply does not let it's graphics look noticeably better than Tekken Tag Tournament 2 when you compare their character models directly like in this video.
      Apparently, Namco was so pissed off by TTT2 low sales figures that Tekken 7's budget was cut in half as result of that and devs had no other choice, but to preserve PS3 polycount for their brand new PS4 game since it's actually cheaper, easier and faster to make new 3d models when they have lower number of polygons compare to what is acceptable at the time.

Even for Marduk, he wasn't that buffed since Tekken 5 and everyone were quite exaggerated due to the old screen compatibility at the time.

    Things like fur, feathers, and muscles are more nuanced, as well as certain clothing textures.
    The faces while having toned down expressions, everyone looks calmer, some of their features like eye shape and brow size don't match.
    The hair doesn't blend with the model as well in t7 either, in tekken 6 they looked like wigs, but tt2 the hair looked like a part of their body, t7 while the hair is more detailed doesn't look as much like a part of them.

    Namco really needs to up their game in the graphics department. They haven't given Tekken or Soulcalibur a remodeling since the PS3 era. Tekken 8/Soul 7 better have model detail that exceeds the PS3 Jin demo and face animation at least on par with what we see in MK. Realistic breathing is a must going forward, so tired of exaggerated shoulder movement to give the illusion. I'm also tired of the static models, we need fleshy physics everywhere. I want to see minor deformations on impacts and at least the end of ridiculous clipping of costumes.
    Namco's fighting games were once on the bleeding edge of video game graphics, now they are literally over decades behind the current state of the art.

    • @TREVORVADER
      @TREVORVADER ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t really care about it being overly realistic. That approach kind of killed MK for me trying to be like that. Tekken doesn’t really need it.
      They do need to actually at make their new models at least look as good as their models on PS3 though. Given how nice some of the DLC characters look I’m hoping they’ve adjusted enough to unreal engine nowadays to do better for T8 though

    i like how some of the characters have pads on their elbows and knees, its mostly because the elbows and knees have a stringy muscle that is tender and one good blow to the elbow or knee could injure you for afew minutes so it makes sense to have your elbows and knees covered. have you ever hit your elbow or knee? it hurts.

    • @smartie354
      @smartie354 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed they both hurt A LOT! (The "funny bone" near the elbow, on the inside and the patella or the knee cap) That's why in self-defense for irl survival and not for tourneys which has rules, a martial artist targets highly, vulnerable areas such as the elbow (to break from a full-force blow to it or from a joint lock fully applied that forces the elbow past its natural range of motion, resulting in a devastating break. For the knee, a full- force kick directly to the knee cap straight ahead or to the inner part of the knee or behind the knee. The fight is over in an instant!)
      That's why having played Tekken over the years and other, fighting games, I could never take it seriously enough where characters like Tekken's AK are fully-armoured and yet taking damage from someone punching or kicking them with exposed hands and/or bare feet or tennis shoes lol. Even Tekken 8 still has characters that will have their limbs broken, even their back, and they still get right back up smh. Fighting games will never be bold enough to evoke that level of realism which would be impressive.

      Yep I think the pain level difference is always gonna be more severe with smashing a bone - definitely, breaking it (or a fracture) vs a cut. The exception being a deep laceration or puncture-type wound. Although the skin is the body's largest organ, I think a bone hurts most because your skeletal system immediately receives the impact with no other barrier to absorb the blow. At least with a cut, it has to go through layers of muscle, tissue and nerves, depending on how deep.
      Just my non-medical, layman summary lol.

    In my opinion TTT2 Graphics are very similar to IRL(In Real Life) and more accurate lightening and shadows on the model characters, kinda soft light and more brighter but not that much, the models are good and matched the background shaders more than Tekken7, on or in? Tekken7 the models are very detailed+ than TTT2 and classic but not matched the graphics to the models with the glossy lightening and incorrected shadows on some characters legs and texture materials, both are good but ill prefer the TTT2 Graphics more because it gives the game more color and realism to the game and it doesn't feel like the most new pc game graphics its just focusing the feeling base on their stages that makes it more realistic to me and others :)

  • @DirgeTV
    @DirgeTV ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Noticing that with alot of the male character stances from TTT2 to T7, the heads from the front are tilted as opposed to just sitting up straight (Marduk, Kazuya and Paul being good examples). There also appears to be subtle stance adjustments, either with the leg bends or the rearward feet being rotated slightly more outward. Two big changes that caught my attention are Lei Wulong's stance animation being shortened up and from the front, Miguel's face now is fixated on his opponent throughout his animation as opposed to just going all the way back.
    Female characters in TTT2 just look rough to me, always felt that way back then (with Tekken Revolution only reaffirming that) and all this comparison has done is reaffirm that even more so. Some might say that they've been "Dolled up" in either TR or T7 but I disagree, They look properly softer.

I hope Tekken take heavy inspiration from rhe upcoming show and redesign both Kazuya and Jin's bodies and make them identical to that, because Jin body in 7 looks abnormal and looks vastly bigger than his father, and the guide and official website states Kazuya is actually bigger than his son weight, physique, and height wise. TTT2 is excellent for a PS3 game but there’s so many other factors involved with T7 that naturally make it look better and “more realistic” as some people keep saying; lighting and textures for instance. In a few areas it can ruin the look of the hair in T7 but overall I think it ends up looking better by a large margin as skin isn’t so reflective and all that.
