- In this video I unbox, install & review the TORP TC500 sent to me by TorpMotors!!
The Torp Motors TC500 is a controller for the Surron Light Bee and has the ability to almost double the power of a stock surron with the stock 60V38ah battery!(7KW if using the 60V 32ah/34ah/40ah).
Even more power with an upgrade battery!!
I show the installation of the controller and Torp display and also take a look at the app that can be used to tune the controller, set power levels and read all the live data of the bike when riding!
Then we test the power of the bike by going for a ride. The power increase is INSANE! It completely changed my surron into a torque monster!!!

Motor Current: Motor Current affects the torque of
the motor. It is most noticeable at a lower speed
Battery Current: Battery Current affects the
maximum power. It also affects torque, which is most
noticeable at medium and higher speeds.

O ne more thing the guy who thinks field weakening has nothing to do with your speed or whatever lmao.
Field Weakening: This option will increase the top
speed of your bike, but it comes with its own set of
advantages and disadvantages:
Advantages: more speed, more torque on high speed
Disadvantages: less range, increased motor
temperature.
We recommend setting the current to below 50 A to
minimize potential drawbacks.

@@mattfrancisofficial I'm going to be getting one very soon, for now I've tried it with just the stock battery. Non bypassed but still it's insane. I made 2 custom tunes on the app, you can change everything. On one I can hit 60mph with normal acceleration, and the other one I can accelerate like a rocket-ship but I limit it to 30mph or the stock BMS trips. Still great for wheelies and sneaking around streets. With a battery I can't imagine how fast it would go!!
Awesome bit of kit! Been putting off buying a Ron for too long now. I live at the other end of the South Downs to you and there's so many local Facebook groups I'm not sure how long I'd last as it's not quite as rural as you here!
Its incredible! Massive change to the stock power. You’ll be alright as long as you ride with caution and consideration and not take too many risks! You wont regret getting one! 🔋⚡️
This is the only controller I’d consider … it really is a great piece of kit I’ve seen nothing bad about it at all anywhere , it’s on my list but it’s way down the bottom as there’s so much stuff I want !

im thinking, should i get a talaria x3 or a sur ron light bee? because i need the removable battery since i live in an apartment.
If you want to remove the battery regularly i suggest a surron, the talaria xxx is great but taking the battery out is a lot of hassle. The surron takes 20 seconds to remove battery 🔋⚡️
I saw you removed the original surron eco/sport/horn switch. What do you use for your horn now that you removed that switch? Thank you!
I removed the horn as well as the button used to get stuck, as would my horn. So no horn for now.
Good video. Did you have to do any calibrations through the app before you could ride? Or is it Literally plug-in play
Thanks! So you do have to calibrate the hall sensor and the throttle as well as make sure the app and display is up to date on firmware versions. However these are really simple tasks and take very little time. Since setting it up i have not had to calibrate anything further and its been working like a dream! 🔋⚡️

such a killer piece of kit.. that install looked effortless. But I hear it doesn't have Field weakening.. does that make a big difference?
It is an awesome bit of kit!! Well worth the money, install was a literally plug a play and it does have field weakening!! It does make a difference as well, without field weakening top speed was around 47mph with field weakening i’ve had 55mph and you can definitely feel an increase in power at higher speeds. Fully recommend the Torp especially if you dont plan on upgrading the battery to 72V but a 72V will make it a whole new level💯⚡️
You should add the regen throttle to save on brakes.

What is the highest you can go on field wakening safely without burning the motor out?
I’ve put it at 65A and it seemed to be fine, added a few mph, will do more tests on this in the future

Its an incredible increase on the stock power! Even the 7kw setting is plenty powerful enough if you dont have the same 60V38ah battery as me. Yeah the skid plate is part of the kit, just keeps the controller covered up and looks really good on the bike too!🔋⚡️

got mine todaay brother i wanted the motor aswell but its out of stock im in the proces of fitting now got the nrw colour screen aswell so might but a video up of it cos i cant find any more vidos about the new screen

I definitely recommend the torp motor if you plan on upgrading the battery too. It will handle the heat and higher speeds a lot better. Definitely make a video on the screen too! I look forward to seeing it man💯🔋⚡️

Yes you should still be able to use this with the on road version of the surron as the controller still allows you to use it with the stock display! 💯🔋⚡️

With the 60V 32ah battery you should still be able to run 7KW absolutely no problem!! I’ve been running 8.6KW on pretty much every ride for a while now and never had a problem. These bikes are more than capable of running that power with out any problems💯🔋⚡️

Hey, i have The Same surron. But my Max battery current is 120a and i have only 7,3kw Why ?
What is the AH of the battery? The 38ah battery can push 8.6kw but the 32/34/40ah batteries are less for some reason. Not too sure why but 7KW is still plenty of power!

You’ll run at 7.6kw i believe, its only the 38ah battery that can run at 8kw

I’ve never used the nuclear so i couldn’t give an honest opinion but the torp is a fantastic and capable controller and great value for money considering how much these other controllers are! 💯🔋⚡️
how much range it has compared to the stock one?
Range is almost identical to stock controller range. If anything the controller is more efficient so may even gain a few miles range. Range is dependent on rider weight and speeds that the bike is used. 🔋⚡️

Just realized what happened to your horn button since you removed your stock display ?
I deleted the horn off my surron altogether as i never really needed it. It can be kept on when using the torp controller and display but it means keeping the stock horn button on the handlebars. You can buy an aftermarket horn button too if you wanted to get rid of the stock horn button as it takes up a lot more room! 💯🔋⚡️
What is the stock power of the surron?
4.8KW continuous. 6KW peak power which it never really reaches. More like 5KW at best while the battery is between 100-90% then would drop down to the 4.8 as the battery discharges
What tyres are those??
These are the Kenda K270 tyres, in the 2.75 size. I recommend getting the size 3.00 if possible!! Much wider and better looking size
I am just checking this out again in Dec of 2023 and at this time the BAC 400 is a couple of hundred dollars less expensive than this unit.
I was struggling to find a BAC4000 for less than £1000 unless it was second hand but even they are difficult to come across in England

The controller is €800 plus €100 for the display so roughly £780 or $950
My stock RON does 49mph GPS all stock what's the top speed of yours now ?
So in this video i had the gearing ratio and wheel size set wrong which made the speedo say i was doing less than i was. After setting it up correctly i’ve had 56mph with field weakening set at 80a. Decent increase with sa stock battery still!

I am about to buy a surron that comes with 40ah panasonic cells. This is the latest version right? since in the video it seems that the 38ah is better.
You are correct that is the latest version! It doesn’t necessarily mean that the 38ah is better than the 40ah though! With what Torp can do with the controller and how it communicates with the bms in the battery they can pull more power out of the 38ah. The reason is still unknown to me but even so the tc500 will make the 40ah battery get 7KW which is a huge increase from stock power! 🔋⚡️

Is bettar than a bac 4000?
Honestly i’ve never tried a bac4000 so I couldn’t compare however the Torp TC500 is more versatile with changing battery for example you can switch between 60V or 72V easier than a bac and the tuning options are easier with the Torp controller.

I put my BAC4000 back on after testing the Torp. this is a speed controller which is inferior to a Torque controller like the BAC4000.

Hmm i mean my Torp controller gave me loads more torque increases than speed increases. Either way i love the torp. Great controller for the price range. Way better than stock

it's unfortunate they didn't add an option to be able to use current control mode (which is torque mode on VESC) and you can't use official VESC firmware instead of their locked down crap
especially given the fact the TC500 uses a customized version of the Vesc firmware, absolutely a great platform but i agree, i don't like speed control mode either, it's as i said unfortunate torp left that out
Stop lying. It has a Bluetooth connection so u can customize your settings. Same thing like when u get a bac u gotta tune it. Except this is user friendly.

The power the battery can deliver will decrease as the battery dies however the power sag is barely noticeable and a lot less noticeable than on the stock controller!

My stock surron goes 48 mph ?
Like i noted in the video, i had the gear ratio and wheel size set wrong which made the speedo say i was going slower than i was. After properly calibrating the speedo i’ve had up to 56mph with the field weakening setting turned up! So with the TC500 there is actually a speed increase. I will be explaining this further in a future video.

What about warranty? You should inform people they are destroying any have at a warranty claim
So in my honest opinion the warranty on a surron is pretty useless. I registered my bike for warranty when i first purchased it and never received an email confirmation or anything to say it was registered for warranty. Also as soon as you undo a bolt or change any stock parts on the surron the warranty is void anyway.
Even with all the upgrades i’ve done i have had no problems with the bike apart from general wear and tear and standard maintenance to do to the bike. The main things on the bike such as the motor, controller and battery are all fairly well built and will last so time before needing to repair/replace them.

@@LarryRichelli There is quite a few reasons to hide your face. My face is quite irrelevant to the content i create and i hide it for safety of my self and my bike. I prefer to keep my youtube life and personal life separate. There were a lot of bikers/youtubers who wore helmets to cover their face before surronster and there will be more after. Surronster has less of a reason to hide his face. Riding in the UK is a lot more troublesome than riding in LA

So i didn’t actually get paid, I just received the controller to try out for free. I have to select paid promotion as an option when uploading so it doesn’t cause problems upon the upload.
Also, my bike is faster than standard power! I had the gear ratio and wheel size incorrect on the app. That made the speedo uncalibrated and gave a wrong reading. You obviously didn’t read the text placed in the video.
I can assure you, my surron is faster than standard both on speed and torque!!!
So there is no fake hype. It’s all genuine😂.

If i didn’t like the new controller and felt no difference to stock power i would of been the first to say! I gave my full honest opinion on what i though of this controller and still to this day i’m so impressed with it! Forget being sent one for free. If I didn’t like it, it wouldn’t still be on my bike!

But fact of the matter is at the time of recording you didn't know these things, you only fogured them out afterwards - so at time of riding ylu thought you were going 38mph and were hyping it up when as stock you would've gotten an extrs 10mph..
