This marks an end of an era for me, mostly because I have been around since 1.0 and ARR beta and this game has been a part of my life for almost a decade Thank you to all wonderful people I may have met along the way, it has been an unforgettable journey. It's going to be very difficult to continue a meaningful story after this arc. They really held no punches back. The themes explored, the growth of the characters, the places we have gone...Anything that comes next will just feel like filler unfortunately.

It also reminds me of the end of Persona 5 Royal. And there was a manga where during a tournament at the end of the fight the two competitors ended up running out of magic and just punching each other while laughing as if they're having the time of their lives.
I find it incredibly fitting that remix of Answer played when Zenos ask you is your life have meaning, was it's a gift or a burden, and if you find it fulfilling. Like, he's one of the very few people who actually asking you not as a hero or warrior of light but as just the adventurer, just you who started the journey that led to this point The guy probably one of the few antagonists that get a satisfy end. He finally able to go all out without caring about anything else, he got his one and only rival accept him, share his passion and willing to give him the best fight of his life. And to have it all end by the hand of this person he acknowledged. For someone who lived his life empty and surrounded by people who didn't understand him nor did he understand them, that's probably the most satisfying end he could've ask for

It very fitting even for our character, we started our journey long time ago as adventure that got wrap up in all of these major conflict, we lost alot of friends, and made new one while meeting enemy from all sides. This right here at the edge of all creation, is our battle our final battle with the one being who we could call our equal so it time we finally see who is the strongest one.
Ishikawa is a narrative fucking genius, I swear. She did what I thought was impossible and actually gave Zenos a satisfying conclusion that made me emotional.
You know you're screwed when the two strongest beings on Etheirys, who would normally be trying to kill each other, have teamed up against you and aren't having any of that "life is pointless" speech

I absolutely love how we've basically become Louisoix in that trailer when they were all praying for him during the Bahamut fight. And I didn't know how they'd top the Hades or SoS fight but by god they did it. Square Enix, you beautiful bastards.
The shots of Y'shtola and Thancred (being the only scions present for both prayers) are even shot in the same pose from the same angle. It's an incredibly cool callback.
Wol and Zeno each giving it their all and end up basically street brawling each other to a bloody mess is probably the greatest conclusion between the two

So I guess Zenos did really die here. His dying wish was for you to live on so then the teleporter controller activated and since you were in a realm of Dynamis his dying wish worked and saved you. Actually kind of sad.
I was thinking that Zenos arrival at 1st was underwelming and not hyped at all. But oh my did they comeback during that last fight, doing was absolutely unique gaming experience, holy sht that was amazing. And last stage with Zenos is omega cool aswell. Damn this is a masterpiece afterall

You're on the back of a giant dragon who is in fact your rival of 6 years as you are about to beat some sense into a depressive giant bird woman head who is the litteral representation of despair all the while drifting through the cosmos with sick ass music blasting from no where. How could it not be the most epic boss ever ?

At about 11:40, it gets really anime with the power of friendship, ahem, I mean Dynamis. It reminds me of the Zeromus battle from FF4 where the prayers of all the characters restore the party to full hp at the start of the battle
I honestly believed that with the pandemic and economic turmoil in the real world and all the other companies flopping with their releases, that they wouldn't be able to outdo Shadowbringers and yet against all odds, they did it. They fulfilled their artistic vision and in the process released something beautiful for us. I feel fortunate to have been here to see it, having started playing back in the 1.0 Alpha.
Why does his death depress me like this? It just makes me sad. I just can't feel happy about him dying. Ah, the beloved juicy blonde I will miss his need to fight me. I feel we could of explored him more deeply Like emotionally, from where does this emptiness he feels stems from? For how long has he felt this way? It be nice if FFXIV gives us a bit of lore in the next patches to come.

In a way this was a gift for WoL as well (especially if your WoL choose the first dialog option), a chance to test him/ herself, to fight with all his/ her strength with no world at stake or people to save. It was a chance to go back to the things that made them an adventurer in the first place, without any additional burdens.
WoL literally carried everyone's collective asses. Fought world ender and then immediately fought someone as strong as himself/herself... and then wasn't allowed to sleep for a bit. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😁
Which made the final fight all the more greater, WoL being selfish for once and fulfill their own pleasure of being an adventurer instead of protecting others.
I think zenos is 100% still alive. Remember when he commited suicide in stormblood and he took over a "katana wielding eizen" body then got his body back from elidibus? So we can clearly say he as Asian like powers/abilities and usually the only way to kill someone with that kind of power is a huge amount of aether like when we killed lahabrea and nabriales. Maybe zenos will come back as a trial in post endwalker in like patch 6.3 or 6.4
I don't think he will return. His story is over, and we used the power of Dynamis in that fight, which erodes Aether. His soul is spent and can move on, unlike before.
I doubt it. He was clearly looking to go out with this one. At this point he should be satisfied, knowing that even at his strongest, he still lost the rematch. Both gave it their all, he lost and now he can finally perish like he wanted to in Doma. He was only so obsessed with a rematch because he wanted to feel the thrill of fighting an equal one last time, after getting this second life he had basically no use for.
While this is a late reply, at the time I didn’t want to spoil that there’d be a fight against Zenos after the final trial. This was uploaded during the first 2/3 days when the early access was out.
Secret boss was a great way to describe it. When he appeared at the end I was flabbergasted. Like I knew he was there but I didn't think that would be the end for him, too. Just like that, the best "antagonist" of honestly any game ever had their story arch ended. He will live on in our hearts.

Not really, when the boss throw the first planet, it was blocked by the tank LB3. The boss then say "Dyamis?" It implies that Limit Break is strength drawn from emotion. The boss than reverse time and throw the planet again, but this time it was block by the scions emotions to protect their friend. Anywhere else, this might not be possible, but remember they are fighting in a realm where emotion becomes reality, so anything is possible if the feeling is strong enough.
So is Endwalker kinda like the "ending" to the "story" if FF 14 was a single player game instead of an MMO? Going to the Moon seems like such a final dungeon type deal ala FF 4 and everything that happens with Zenos and the WoL.
They allude to more adventure and mystery. And probably problems popping up. I wouldn't be surprised if they continued content with smaller stories while increasing the cap to 99 or 100
Sort of. It indeed completes the big arc that the game has had so far since 1.0 about Ascians, Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and the Final Days. But it won't be the end of the game. They hinted several routes where they could take you and locations you have yet to visit, and they can start fresh on a basic level once more (after this there basically isn't any more known gods in this universe). Think of it as the Avengers Endgame of FFXIV, but there will be a new saga.
I have never played FFXIV, but I have seen trailers and vids, and it is glorious. Part of me WANTS to play it, but subscription services are hard to pay for. If I DID play it, though, when I got to this fight, and after the group speech by the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, I would yell, probably both in chat and in IRL: *_"JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE ARE?!?!?!?"_* Because that moment just has that Gurren Lagann feel to it.
One thing that EW didn't explain was why Zenos would dream of the final days in Amaorot - why Fandaniel assumed it was the work of Emet-Selch. Unless I'm missing something? I was honestly expecting a far more interesting story to Zenos. I really, really hope they answer this in the patches to come.
@@Gamemaster-64 'Could Emet-Selch have found a way?' said Fandaniel. They emphasise his dream quite strongly, and fandaniels reaction tells us it's more than we know. Yoshi-P also alluded to various things (such as his RPR avatar) that we're still yet to see.
Given that Emet's descendants were larger than the usual people, its possible that they were not reincarnations of any previous souls but new beings who were hybrids with ancient "blood". Rather than taking over a body, he may have crafted his own garlean body with Amarotian biology. Given that his garlean body so heavily resembles his amorotian looks, this is highly likely. It might also be why his son (Varis' father) dying so early in life of illness devastated him. He may have expected him to be a naturally eternal ancient and a hope for a different path to bringing his people back. It seems however that his bloodline would have actually lead there eventually given what Zenos turned out like but well... Zenos ended up being Zenos.
Angel of Nihilism is more accurate. She doesn't just want to kill everyone, because in 14's world death is not final. As long as your soul persists you will eventually be reborn. She want's to eradicate the very notion of life itself. She doesn't want death, she wants absolute nothingness.

6.0 isn't gonna be the final content patch and there's gonna be more content patches, 6.0 just concludes the Zodiark/Hydaelyn story lines.

I think zenos is 100% still alive. Remember when he commited suicide in stormblood and he took over a "katana wielding eizen" body then got his body back from elidibus?
So we can clearly say he as Asian like powers/abilities and usually the only way to kill someone with that kind of power is a huge amount of aether like when we killed lahabrea and nabriales. Maybe zenos will come back as a trial in post endwalker in like patch 6.3 or 6.4
I don't think he will return. His story is over, and we used the power of Dynamis in that fight, which erodes Aether. His soul is spent and can move on, unlike before.
He has been satiated. It would honestly be poor writing if they kept bringing him back to do the same thing.
I doubt it. He was clearly looking to go out with this one. At this point he should be satisfied, knowing that even at his strongest, he still lost the rematch. Both gave it their all, he lost and now he can finally perish like he wanted to in Doma. He was only so obsessed with a rematch because he wanted to feel the thrill of fighting an equal one last time, after getting this second life he had basically no use for.
He body-hopped into the teleport device at the end, I guess. Next he will hack into G-Warrior and you can fight your own mech.

lol Zenos is not a secret boss, he's part of the story. Something like Nybeth or floor 115 of POTD that's a secret boss.

Secret boss was a great way to describe it. When he appeared at the end I was flabbergasted. Like I knew he was there but I didn't think that would be the end for him, too. Just like that, the best "antagonist" of honestly any game ever had their story arch ended. He will live on in our hearts.

I think it was more so for that barrier after the dust settled, along with the ring of light.
Not really, when the boss throw the first planet, it was blocked by the tank LB3. The boss then say "Dyamis?" It implies that Limit Break is strength drawn from emotion. The boss than reverse time and throw the planet again, but this time it was block by the scions emotions to protect their friend. Anywhere else, this might not be possible, but remember they are fighting in a realm where emotion becomes reality, so anything is possible if the feeling is strong enough.
So is Endwalker kinda like the "ending" to the "story" if FF 14 was a single player game instead of an MMO? Going to the Moon seems like such a final dungeon type deal ala FF 4 and everything that happens with Zenos and the WoL.
They allude to more adventure and mystery. And probably problems popping up. I wouldn't be surprised if they continued content with smaller stories while increasing the cap to 99 or 100
Sort of. It indeed completes the big arc that the game has had so far since 1.0 about Ascians, Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and the Final Days. But it won't be the end of the game. They hinted several routes where they could take you and locations you have yet to visit, and they can start fresh on a basic level once more (after this there basically isn't any more known gods in this universe). Think of it as the Avengers Endgame of FFXIV, but there will be a new saga.

One thing that EW didn't explain was why Zenos would dream of the final days in Amaorot - why Fandaniel assumed it was the work of Emet-Selch. Unless I'm missing something? I was honestly expecting a far more interesting story to Zenos. I really, really hope they answer this in the patches to come.

Given that Emet's descendants were larger than the usual people, its possible that they were not reincarnations of any previous souls but new beings who were hybrids with ancient "blood". Rather than taking over a body, he may have crafted his own garlean body with Amarotian biology. Given that his garlean body so heavily resembles his amorotian looks, this is highly likely.
It might also be why his son (Varis' father) dying so early in life of illness devastated him. He may have expected him to be a naturally eternal ancient and a hope for a different path to bringing his people back.
It seems however that his bloodline would have actually lead there eventually given what Zenos turned out like but well... Zenos ended up being Zenos.
