Beautiful tune from beautiful musicians. I have listening to these two for ages in various guises and hope they remain in my life forever. Thank you both
The pure sound and the skillful articulation fill me with wonder - I'm learning to play the cornetto and so far can only imitate the moaning of a bad tempered bull suffering with severe indigestion. I return to this video to give me the impetus to keep trying. Beautiful music, lovely sound and marvelous playing by both cornettist and organist.
“Dyeing cow” is how I described my short lived attempts to learn cornetto years ago.
@@pearspeedruns Still going! I also learned the serpent. All fascinating study and fun to do.
This is simply amazing, notice also how well Hanneke and Bruce play together. Just fantastic, my favourite music for a long time to come for sure
I love the sound of the cornetto. It sounds like a much mellower version of a trumpet.
Familiar and famous tune -- I don't think I've ever heard it so beautifully played. :-)
This lady always looks at other musicians with a warm smile.
What an absolutely beautiful sound!!! Mr. Dickey is certainly the greatest cornettist today. I've always enjoyed his performances and have his CD's. His beautiful playing shows why the early Baroque composers considered the cornet to on par with the violin. Just as beautiful a tone and expressive as a well played violin. Thanks much for this video!
Merci !
Ah, the cornetto, one of my favourite musical voices.
No words to describe the beauty of this interpretation and of the song itself.
Bravo!
Merci!
bravo bravo bravo! the music is from heaven, and you too! congratulations and thanks for playing Josquin des Prez a VERY special music thank you Hanneke and Bruce, you are mastering Josquin des Prez.
Hundredth time I listen to this. No way: it's beautiful. And the beauty increases.
hermoso, gracias
He uses two cornetti for these videos: a three-piece straight cornetto made by Henri Gohin of Paris (seen here), and a curved cornetto made by Matthew Jennejohn of Montreal, Quebec (the Palestrina video). Both are pitched at "A"=465 Hz..
Grande.... Grazie 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌹 🌹 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Best viewed in 1080p :)
Wonderful sound. the instrument "most like the voice"
It's great healing video
I will see you many times

stunning version... the variations on the theme are very beautiful. thanks for the music.
Just gorgeous...Another evidence that Josquin des Prés was a major composer.....Love how the cornetto here that keeps the tune into the Renaissance sound in a way.
The cornett probably is THE sound of Renaissance. I wonder if the true reason why it disappeared was the end of Renaissance, an Era whose sound embodied so tightly, probably even too tightly for the instrument's own good...
@@TenorCantusFirmus Thanks, I agree with you I really regret it isn't used much after that time...
@@GregsWhiskyGuide I'm training in Composition and I also have written a Piece for cornett, recorders (one player doubling on all instruments), tape and live electronics.
Maestro Dickey's website also provides a list of contemporary cornett Pieces.
Very EXCELLENCE et MAGNIFIQUE....
Wonderful ... beautiful..... simply Music!
Such a warm sound this cornetto ( zink in Dutch ) has. Great performance.
As soon as I hear the opening notes of any piece from the Bruce Dickey/VoM concert (or from his latest CD), I am sent off to a thrilling new place to meditate on the notes and ride them wherever!
It is a straight cornetto with a mouthpiece.
@@aaaarghgl No. The so called "mute" cornet hasn't an external mouthpiece, its mouthpiece is designed in the wood of the instrument (and therefore cannot be changed). It's perhaps the reason why it has a softer sound (though I'm not sure to understand why).
So beautiful!!
Beautiful but very sad song.
Lovely. Clean clear recording plus 1080p makes VoM videos far better than the norm.
Unreal exellence,
I have a beautiful cornetto by Matthew Jennejohn. It's made learning and playing an absolute joy. It's a real jewel in my collection. He's wonderful to deal with too. Highly recommended.
Que bonito!!!
Espléndido🌿
So beautiful sound🍃
Fabulous piece, wonderful performance
Amazing !!
Many thanks. I never heard such thing bevor, but i think playing is (very) difficult.
hevig mooi ! en de zuiverheid verbaast me
Splendid
Very touching.
Wow what a sound!
bravi!
beautiful❕
Very interesting, this instrument!
❤️💕💕
Very cool🌺🌺🌺🌺
Beautiful! Are there gonna be any more videos of Hanneke playing the organ soon? BTW, I LOVE her solo at 3:21!!!
absolutely wonderful performance! I am curious about one thing: I see musicians like Mr. Dickey sometimes play a straight cornett (I am not referring to a mute cornett) instead of the more common curved design. Is there any practical difference (tone quality, easiness of playing etc.) or is it just a design and aesthetic choice by the maker? Would it make any difference for a beginner? Thanks in advance to anyone who would reply!
Thank you. All cornettos are hard to play, but the curved ones are more ergonomic.
Very cool 😘😘😘
That is indeed a very nice set of divisions. Have you considered publishing them? I'd love to try them on viol.
dank

This looks very much like a Henri Gohin instrument as developed and played by W. Dongois...
Mille regretz de vous habandonner
Et d'eslonger votre fache amoureuse;
Qu'on me verra brief mes jours deffiner.
qu'on me verra vite mes jours terminer
Is cornetto a single or double reed instrument? The sound is stunning great. Excelent performance.
No reeds at all! -- the cornetto uses a cup-style mouthpiece similar to modern brass instruments like the trumpet, except much smaller -- about the size of an acorn shell.
Wonderful work, and fine mastery of a very cranky instrument.
I have a question: these variations are much like divisions, for example for lute on the songs of Dowland, of a much later time. Would Josquin's songs have had something similar applied? I 'd love to see or hear anything about it.
Divisions appear very early on in the history of music, such as the roulades in some of Dufay's works. With the advent of music printing, lute and keyboard versions appeared with extensive divisions of works by Josquin & Isaac, among others. Note that it is unlikely that Dowland wrote any divisions at all, as he regarded it as unbalancing the counterpoint, although his contemporaries certainly did.
Cornetti were commonly used in ensemble to double or replace vocal lines because of their tonal beauty and compatibilty with the human voice. Why don't we see/hear more of them in your ensemble work?
Wonderful! Who's the arraignment from? :)
Cornetto.... wow, what an amazing instrument and what a performance, absolutely phantastic! Can't get better than this!
Glad you like it!
