      I wanna know if you can stay anonymous

  • @0045551
    @0045551 ปีที่แล้ว +205

    I disagree with this guys advice about staying anonymous. If I win nobodys gonna know accept my lawyer and accountant. I'm not even gonna tell my family or friends. People who tell the world end up wishing they hadn't. Jack Whittaker is a prime example. He won Powerball and told everyone that he had won 300,000,000 dollars. Everybody was asking him for money. His daughter died of drug overdose and he had to file bankrupty before he died. So my advice is if you win a large amount of money keep it to yourself.

    • @TimothySchultz
      @TimothySchultz  ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Thanks for your comment! Different states in the USA have different rules as to whether you can claim a prize anonymously and if so, how to do that. In many states, winners do not have the choice. We certainly see the negative stories in the media, but there are many positive stories of people that claimed it publicly as well. Having said that, I completely respect your opinion. Best wishes and good luck if you play!

    • @0045551
      @0045551 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@TimothySchultz Timothy, I think some states where you can't stay anonymous. If I lived in one of those states there may be some way where you can claim the money anonymously. I'm not sure how but I live in Maryland where you can stay anonymous.

      @@TimothySchultz I think alternatively most people who win and have to announce it publicly have to be realistic about their changed circumstances e.g...
      you need to move from were you stay for security reasons

    • @jessy7884
      @jessy7884 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Obviously in his point of view claim the prize public is good for the integrity of the lottery companies. If your state allows you to claim anonymously that is definitely the right choice. Not all states gives you this option!

    I can't imagine who would else sit down for one hour to do such an interview. Thank you for your insight and patience sir. I hoped Tim would ask him about the situation here in South Africa where last year 20 players played the numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and a “PowerBall” number of 10. Each won $272 000. There was alot of outrage and investigation of which the lottery board found there were no irregularities.

      If you really feel the winning power,you may want to encourage others to buy the same numbers as a way of helping them win a piece of the pie.Much like telling your siblings to buy their own ticket with the numbers you give them due to the strong strong urge you have of
      winning.Maybe that is what happened here.Just saying.

    I moved Tim’s interview with Mr. Rich! If I won, I would do something like what Mr. Rich did. I would spend time on relationships, work with financial experts, travel, speak, write books, and more. I would put time and energy into cultivating a new sense of community family friendships, and also work on my music along with acting. A lot of what I would do would be tied to charity from my new line of work.😊

    Great interview; Guess my area of agreeing to disagreeing with him comes with him requiring folks to go public…Totally understand why Iowa is adamant about the publicity of players especially after the Eddie Tipton scandal , but feel that it should be up to the player weather they want to be public or not. It’s actually one of the major reasons why I’ll only play in states that grant anonymity. Folks be crazy ESPECIALLY after COVID!!!! 😅

    Great interview. It's nice to hear the inside workings. I had a friend that worked at a convenience store, she would scan scratch off's to see if they were winners. If not, she would set it aside and sell it to the next customer that wanted one. If it was, she would purchase the ticket. I at one time purchased a powerball, then stuffed it in my pocket the drawing was for Wednesday, so after the drawing while I was checking my numbers I noticed it was Monday's ticket. Cashier was skimming the till selling old tickets. Just watch where your cashier takes your ticket from.

    Anonymity is something of a personal choice, but the choice is not available in all states. The analogy used about a property owner selling a $10M being public is not the same thing as winning a $20M lottery. Property owners can sell and take ownership in an LLC or trust. Although the ownership is public records, the public has to access and search public records to find the owner, because there is NO public news conference announcing worldwide that you just sold your $10M property. .... great interview!
