    Could you do one on the open root cert weld, I'm really struggling with burn through on that one

    can you demonstrate this in vertical 3g without the spray or pulse and just run it regular and also with a bend test ,, i cant seem to penetrate my root , ive failed all 3 pretest on a 1inch beveled plate ,,,

    Hello friend, I enjoyed your video.
    I have a question
    The welding is very smooth and beautiful, but I want to know the conditions for doing this.
    For example, what is shield gas, etc.
    Please let me know

      You need a machine capable of doing a pulse spray mode (as he is doing in the video) otherwise you can only achieve a standard spray transfer, as for the requirements you need a gas that is at least 85%AR but most commonly I've seen is 90/10, if you don't have the pulse function on your machine you can achieve a spray by setting around 375 WFS set around 27+ volts(the weld should now have a hissing sound rather than frying bacon)... however without the pulse function you will be limited to only welding in flat positions

    When I was taking my welding tests for AWS we weren't allowed to use take any backing on the backside of the V. We had to tack the V joints at top and bottom and then fill the gap with the root pass. Is this specific way you're doing it here, the way they test you in the real world or? Bc I've never taken a weld test for a job before. I only tested for AWS and got my certifications. Which also are pretty meaningless in the real world. Any jobs I've ever had only wanted to see me lay a couple flat passes and I guess they'd judge off that. But I'm shooting for a specific job now that is going to require me to bend V's. And I honestly don't think I even can anymore.

      This is what I was looking for in the comments. I went through the school and welded down at LeTourneau before they shut down. Manufactured Jack up oil rigs among other things. Anyway, our test plates had no backing plates like the above commenter stated. we train to weld as you would expect to see out on the pad. We had different shops for specialized sub assemblies but most of the work was done in place right there by the Mississippi river. And you may not can get to the backside of whatever you are welding together. Even if you could, you wouldn’t be hauling around 20 foot stick of. flat stock to back up the joint of a weld so long that night shift will need to finish before moving on. Also we trained to pass inspection and for safety. Nobody can be blowing out the backside having molten metal drip 5 stories down and landing on who knows what. it’s just not acceptable for so many reasons. and I know these.videos are for entertainment purposes, only not real world instruction, but I can’t help. I feel that some of them maybe not this one but many lead people of three either intentionally or not. Bad info is worse than no info.

      i will say that ole boy in this video or whoever sure had their machine singing a sweet tune! music to the ear, no spitting or spattering just heat and the frequency of the transformer in the welding machine. well done sir

      It’s either or tbh my professor told me that only with stick welding should have a backing strip not with MiG

    Why would you run a 1 inch test plate for an electrode that isn't pre approved for structural applications per AWS D1.1?

    I did a side by side comparison between your "first pass" at 4:39 and second pass at 5:44.
    They are the exact same pictures.

      @captainltaker 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can tell from the sound it is pulse spray mig, the video shows 26 volts at 260 amps for the root and stringers. doesnt show wire speed but my guess is between 250-400 depending on how much you want to move the puddle.

    Why would u run pulse on a 1g test run full spray its better penetration

    • @superiorwelding
      @superiorwelding  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But is it? People say that all the time but that is not always the case. GMAW-P has many benefits and will pass a bend test super easily. This test has become more common these days. I have taken, and passed, both ways and they are both absolutely fine.

      This is a good question,But in a way, this video is a demonstration, and the pulse technology will also be suitable for actual production.

    • @MrSocca101
      @MrSocca101 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve learned pulse is more for the how fast you want to move the puddle it’s all the same just slower

    • @danielbeaird6264
      @danielbeaird6264 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I was in college for welding and applied science our CWI/CWE said "a typical weld only penetrates a base metal by about 1/32", the very definition of welding is the act of fusing 2 or more alloys together, I don't care if you penetrate 100ft, if there's lack of fusion then by definition it's not welded" in other words when talking about penetration into a base material there is a point of diminishing returns, and cranking all that extra heat into the material could end up being far worse than slightly less penetration

    • @jasoncousins1343
      @jasoncousins1343 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @danielbeaird6264 wrong pulse does not dig as deep as full spray this is common knowledge only use it for outta position welds or heat sensitive things period what data do u have to back up statement
