Thank you very much for the information!
    I have 3 questions.
    1) What about multiple screenplays under one title? For example a series, or episodes? Do each episodes script have to be copyrighted?
    2) Do individual characters within these multiple stories need to be copyrighted as well individually?
For example: Lets say I'm creating a story called "Justice League" Starring Superman and Batman. This story will exist across 5 episodes. Would I need to copyright "Justice League" only? or must I copyright episode 1, episode 2, episode 3, episode 4 and episode 5 individually? And do I copyright the individual characters that appear in each episodes like "Superman" and "Batman" individually?
    3) If my screenplay or script have been edited with tweaks or rewrites, would a new copyright need to be purchased for every version of the script?
Thank you so much in advance!

There is an old 1965 80 minute movie from 1965 that I would like someone to copy. It is on 16 mm film and the soon the film could deteriorate and it would not be able to be digitized. It is held by Regent University and there does not appear to be an VHS or DVDs anywhere. Concordia Publishing House will not authorize making a copy since information may be in deep storage and they told me it may take a huge effort to find the copyright certificates. I checked the copyright office and it is not in their online database. I am sure all the actors are deceased. The movie is called "A Letter to Nancy". Would the actors children have any rights under copyright law? You would think if they did they would have to file for rights and this would be evident in the online copyright records. Anyway, I am hoping Regent will make a copy anyway. Any thoughts about legal issues?

Hi Allan, Just found this video and I directly clicked Subscribe! Many thx for your work!
I've got several question, as I just finished my first screenplay + treatment writing.
Would be really helpful if you take time to reply on below questions.
    1) I 'm korean, living in Germany but I wrote my works in English, aiming to send out my work to major industry, like Hollywood.
I think I need to protect my work under the U.S copyright system? Or do you think I also need to register in the EU copyright system?
    2) Is the payment also available with Paypal? Or only via Credit card? - This might be very stupid question though :)
    3) Let's say I completed the copyright process. Then I need to actually send out to productions and agents. What are your recommended
channels to do this? More precisely, how can you find those productions and agent to sell your work?
    Thanks for reading!

    • @IndieFilmArmy
      @IndieFilmArmy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gyuyong Jeong,
So sorry that your comment got lost underneath the mountain of comments for this video man! I'd highly recommend that you protect your screenplay in Korea and the U.S as well! So register it in both places as you plan on sending your work to people in the industry. I paid via credit card but you can definitely look into if they accept wire transfers.
As far as your final question, I’ve created an action plan to get you the expertise, tools & connections necessary to produce cinematic films that you can be proud of! @markzajac9993 wrote, “Does it really take 3-8 months to get it copyrighted *[registered]?* What if you wanted to start sending the scripts to producers? Do you write somewhere that the script is copyright pending?
The DAY the US Copyright Office (USCO) *RECEIVES* your completed copyright registration application, your filing fee, and a copy of your deposit (the screenplay you’re registering), and assuming there are no issues (mistakes) with your application/deposit, that’s when it’s been officially *“registered,”* even though it may take a few weeks to a couple of months or so for the USCO to process and mail your “Certificate of Registration” (as of April 2024). If the USCO emails you questions and you don’t respond promptly, that will likely delay the issuance of your Certificate. Understand that processing times at the USCO vary for many reasons.
@markzajac9993 wrote, “What if you wanted to start sending the scripts to producers?”
BEFORE you start “shopping” your script out to publishers, agents, reps, and other Hollywood folks, get it immediately registered. The same thing goes with contest; get the script registered before you enter.
@markzajac9993 wrote, “Do you write somewhere that the script is copyright pending?”
I’ve read you should not include that or your copyright attribution, as it might make you look like a rookie.

Using the $65 on-line “Standard Application” to register your ONE film project, you’ll have to *disclaim”* those works that you didn’t create, including AI, Creative Commons, licensed creative content, footage, photographs, music, etc. You can identify/list those works you didn’t create in the “Limitation of Claim” section of the copyright application.

You may have to. It would be prudent to contact the US Copyright Office to get an official answer.
If your works are all UN-published, you can “group-register” up to ten works (performing artworks) in one $85 *“Group Registration of UN-published Works” (GRUW)* copyright registration application.

As of April 2024, to register ONE screen-play is either $45 or $65 each, whether published or un-published.
To save money on copyright registration filing fees, you can “group together” up to ten *UN-published* scripts in one $85 GRUW registration application.

If you’ve made *“substantive”* changes (additions, deletions, and revisions) to your original screenplay that you’ve already registered with the US Copyright Office, then you should register those modifications in an updated registration application. Any new changes to your original work are called “derivatives.”
If your changes are minor, then you may not have to register them.
Use the $65 on-line “Standard Application” to record those derivative changes.
