    Sigh....thanks for letting me realize how little I really know and how much I actually suck when I thought for a while I was pretty good. 30 years of playing, man if I had just learned more theory and examined fine technique more. So many of us are hacks. With arthritis, disc, and tendinitis problems these videos sadly inspire what could have been. You know what they say about hindsight... Great work Troy. Just wish I could understood more. My bad far too late.

    Masters in mechanics: Troy Grady :D
    I know that your focus is on picking mechanics, and that there's still lots of material to cover, but this kind of topics and your actual playing /thought process are gold too.
    Thanks!

    The theme functions are:
    Tp, S, DD, D, M (german)
    VI min , IV maj , II maj , V maj, III maj
    ...so thats the key of G ... and I thought it exists :P

    Wow thanks, this 'root 1st inversion trick' is something I've been trying to figure out on the guitar for a long time, thanks for the succinct explanation!

    In Back To The Future II, had Marty McFly become the guitarist he’d wanted to be, that would be you, Troy. 100% stainless kick ass!
    Troy, thank you for this video in particular. It’s pure enjoyment entertainment and beyond inspiring. I AM calling today to begin guitar lessons - I want to possess knowledge. The kind you’ve attained. One can feel your passion and excitement for music and throwing down amazing licks! Until discovering you, my most enduring guitar hero has been Randy Rhoads. More than Eddie, he had something important to say on guitar and he only finished the first few sentences of what would’ve been an enormous musical statement. For me, you seem to know what that might’ve been - and then some. It’s the highest praise I could ever give a guitarist. You do indeed always have me wanting more.
    🙋🏻‍♀️❤️

    I remember an old interveiw from Eddie back in the day, his music teacher would constantly slap his hand for not playing the correct notes in the scale/chords, but Eddie's attitude was: "If it sounds good then it is good."

      Thanks! At the moment, the show sucks up all my time. And there's so much variety in the soundtrack that I don't really feel the need to write any more music. We even have a super cool Headless Horseman thing coming up which is symphonic in nature. Stay tuned...

    Just found the videos tonight... and watched them all! lol WIll there be any mention of Tony MacAlpine or Paul Gilbert in your series. I know there's brief mentioning of Tony in the boxer sequence and Gilbert in the REH video segment, but will there be any feature of either of those guys? Thanks! Great work BTW

      Hi! Thanks for the note, and thanks for watching. Yes indeed, there will be an extensive discussion of Paul Gilbert in Season 2. We're going to dissect Paul's alternate picking technique with a level of detail that has never been done before. Stay tuned!

    Good man, Troy! I'd rather have a Lotus Esprit, as well! Such a sexy car for the period....and the V8s they made toward the end of production were so glorious.....But I'd take a 2.2 Turbo any day.

    Does the "Season Pass" for Cracking the Code: Season One come with anything other than just the episodes on youtube? 5$ is very inexpensive, but I discovered your channel yesterday and already watched all of your episodes currently available.
    Just curious if it includes tabs for any of the licks you played or any additional material (in season 1). I'm most interested in the tabs for the pop tart lick.
    By the way, your content has triggered a eureka moment in my playing. I'm finally picturing licks in terms of picking patterns instead of frets or shapes, and with this new mindset, I can insert any scales or shapes INTO the picking patterns to help bring my playing back to life after years and years of repeating the same stale licks over and over. Thank you for putting so much effort into this series!!!

      jared maguire Hi Jared! The Season Pass for Season 2 is what you want -- that has the Pop Tarts lick and tons and tons of other stuff. And it will continue to have more stuff as we release new episodes. It also comes with a free download of the episodes from Season 1, as an extra. Thanks for watching!

    Dear Troy, as always, great stuff. I would like to pick your brain on your editing software, if i'm not mistaken from what I see on your laptop you are Using Logic Pro?? If not, which software are you using? Also how or what interface are you using to record the Guitar or is it some other USB/Firewire connection directly to the guitar. Thanks and keep up the great work. I use MOTU"s digital Performer with MOTU's external interface connected to my laptop via firewire. Looking in to buy something this is why I'm curious to what you are using. Thanks a million!!

      Hi! We're an all-Apple shop, so it's Logic / Final Cut / Motion. In the studio, it's a Lynx Aurora 16 with 16 channels of JLM Audio preamps piped into it. There are many, many great options for audio interface at every conceivable number of channels -- more so than ever before.

      ***** Troy, Thanks for replying!! Your visual and sound quality is superb!! I was very curious as to how you were recording both your visual and sound. I think I will be making a change in my equipment as I have all Apple equipment as well. :-) I will take a look at the Lynx Audio Interface and compare it to my 8 Channel Motu product. Thanks much for sharing!! Keep up the great work!

    • @troygrady
      @troygrady  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting -- haven't heard it before, but I see it on YT and indeed the tribal-sounding drum part is similar. Progression less so. Cool song.

    • @trex257
      @trex257 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was mainly talking about the basic intro chord progression. Once you add in all of the keyboard/synth parts, it sounds much less like the Megadeth song.

  • @MusicMotivator

    Very similiar to the solo rhythm in Cowboys From Hell. Viva la Dimes!! Or of course Blackbird verse. sometimes I don't think these are pinches but just sub- consciouse references. (great tone & content Troy!)

    • @troygrady
      @troygrady  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Vulgar Display of Power in my iTunes but I actually don't think I've ever listened to CFH (the song) all the way through. I hear the root-third progression happening there in the solo though so agreed. Pop music, man, there are only so many colors available!

    • @utubehound69
      @utubehound69 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** WHAT? Dime on that & Vulgar display was Revolutionary you gotta hear the guitar parts. The songs are bit Extreme but you can't deny Dimes influence.
