So many Thomas-themed runnings, so many flashbacks to the good ol' days of the series: James and Henry's double-header reminded me of the Railway Series story 'Overhaul', Edward and James double-header reminds me of Season 1's 'James And The Coaches/James Learns A Lesson' and James and Douglas' train reminded me of Season 2's 'Break Van/Donald And Douglas'...thanks for bringing so many people's childhoods back to life, Sam!

Thanks for running my request Sam! Awesome as ever. For Christmas this year I decided to get myself some of your recommended engines from past year or two. The Oxford N7 in gray, the Hornby Queen Anne Ruston, the Bachmann L&YR 2-4-2 in BR Black, the Hornby Adams Radial Tank in Southern green, and the Hornby W4 Peckett in the blue Port of London Authority livery. They all run silky smooth and whisper quiet. I was pleasantly surprised by the weight of them as well. For next year I was thinking about getting some of Hatton’s engines. Been trying to find the P class in the Bluebell livery, but it is difficult to track down.
If you’ve read this far down, Thank you for all you do and have an EXCELLENT New Year.
I also got the Beattie Well Tank in the black with green lining before your review went up. Loved the wheel arrangement, disappointed by the PLASTIC! 😑

Request: Bachman BR Black Midland Compound with 4-5 Blood and Custard Teaks (if you don’t have them maybe just some B&C MK1’s) and 2 B&C Teak/MK1 Brakes 1 at either end, hope that’s not to complicated! Would look great! I just got a midland compound, the same one you have, Man what a stunner!

The Class 91 (not 92) is hauling IC Swallow Mk3s in addition to Virgin Mk3s (the IC Swallow Mk3s are Hornby's earlier shorter tooling of the Mk3).

Hello Sam, when I was a child my parents always bought me a train set for my Birthday (Christmas Eve) or Christmas 🎄. I happened to mention this to my neice a while ago and said how much I miss getting a train set each year. She surprised me this year and bought me the Santa's Express set for my 60th Birthday. I was simply over the moon with y present especially now that I have entered my second childhood!

I am going to make a small layout but, I like to make small dioramas to show off particular locomotives 🚂. Trains are so detailed now and don't know which locomotives to buy first?
I know this video is a year old give or take, but I loved the Henry and James double header and the one of James and Douglas reminds me of when Douglas helped James up Gordon's Hill because of the spiteful brake van causing the troublesome trucks to act up. I think Sam has some Thomas and Friends fans as well because Edward and James also double-headed the express one time too! It's like poetry, it rhymes.

Overall, amazing running session with pretty wacky requests from people! I pretty much love all of these requests from people for this running session! It’s satisfying to see at least 30 locomotives run on your layout with some interesting stuff they’re pulling! 😃👍

I have a full set of 3 requests. 1: thomas, percy and duck pulling the sodor express from the railway series story "triple header". 2: henry in the middle pushing d7101 (bear the hymek diesel) with the sodor limited and pulling d199 (old reliable/spamcan the class 46 diesel) with a rake of oil tankers and a pill box brake van from the railway series story "super rescue". 3: douglas running tender first while pulling oliver, a gwr auto coach and toad from the railway series story/television series episode "escape". Thank you.

Great video, love seeing all the random configurations of your stock, and seeing oddities in your collection out on the line.
You do have more mk3s than just those 2 virgin ones. In season 9, for my request, you ran the intercity 225 set but used the old short intercity liveried hornby mk3s (as seen in the formation near the end) instead of mk4s (hornby's mk4s have always been full length, and they have 2 windows at one end of each side for the toilets instead of one window at either end of each side for them. BTW, not fussed you got the wrong coaches then, or when you put half brake coaches behind the 08 instead of full brakes, it's all good fun).
Was that the 1361 actually behaving itself?!

Hi Sam. Lovely video. Loved the black 5 ,is that a classic or a retooled version. I could not get the number. Also that blue Castle looked lovely is that a Wrenn locomotive. Nice to see all the classic Hornby wagons out on the line, especially the ocean wagons. Enjoyed the video thanks Sam 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🚄🚄🚅

The class 91 electric loco hauling a 125 diesel unit looks completely wrong. However this actually happened as when the 91s we're introduced, the MK4 coaches we're yet to be completed so a power car was removed and replaced with a 91, the other power car's engine still ran to power the heating / air con etc, after a while it was altered so that both the 91 and the diesel power car both powered the train, a sort of hybrid and one of the quickest accelerating train's ever.
haha yeah it does!! Didn't know it really happened though - that's unbelievable!! :O

I just got my hands on the Majestic train set from Hornby . It is a e link set with a a1 peppercorn and class 47 and coaches and wagons. And the best part is I paid just under 150 pounds 😏

Love the vids Sam👍 Was wondering if you could doublehead the B-mann Spectum 2-8-0 with any British Southern loco (to couple them, you can stick the hook of the Brit coupler into the knuckle on the Spectrum) pulling the Boche Buster and some Southern coaches? ;)

Hi Sam, do you think you could one day acquire and run a Union Pacific Big Boy 4-8-8-4 on your layout? Idk if the curves on your route too tight or not. I love that massive loco and have always wanted to see an HO version riding along, the train set I grew up with was quite large but the radius of the curves couldn't support such a massive engine, either way i love your videos :) Cheers!

Great video Sam. Got a question about a loco I (which is the Hornby Harry Potter Train Set) got for Christmas. For locos with TTS Sound is there a special controller/ app you need to get the sounds to work. Thanks Rebekkah. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year 2021.
Hey Rebekkah, yes there is - you'd need a DCC controller (the most basic one is the Hornby select) in order to run the sound! Check out my video on getting started with DCC if you're interested, and don't forget to chip your other DC locos before trying them on a DCC controller.... it could fry them otherwise!

I want to buy the bachmann james because I cant get the hornby one anymore
but the bachmann loco's have bad motors
have you had any trouble with the motor from your bachmann james
and how can I prevent the motor burning out?

haha yeah some of them are pretty strange! Yes the Bachmann motors are dodgy, but my James is actually okay so far. Just be careful not to run them too fast, and don't load them up with too many coaches. Also make sure you run him in for 30 mins in each direction without anything coupled to him before you add rolling stock!

did you know that the train with james and douglas in the bak was extually based on the episode "break van" ( or the rws story the episode was based on )
rerequest: Henry ( bacman ) pulling a train of fish vans and a bteak van, and if you can put a train of trucks and thomas at the front in a siding ( with a beak van )

Hello Sam, I just wanted to thank you for the Diesel Locomotive recommendations, I just wanted to ask for some others, I plan to have five locos from each of the five railway companies, LNER, LMS, GWR, SR and BR, I have my five LNER, and have planned my five LMS, if you could recommend any of the others, I would greatly appreciate it. I would prefer them to be Steam Locos, but if there are are any note worthy diesels, I will take a look.

Apparently the hornby James model is based on the old triang 3 mt model and he said that this can be seen from the bairly noticable seam on the smoke box

I've done an assortment of Christmas trains this year I've had an O gauge and an S gauge American flyer trains under my Christmas tree, two HO gauge Christmas trains on the layout and an N gauge Christmas train running on the area of my layout where there will be a mountain with an N gauge loop of track on it, all pulled with diesel locomotives, I've been doing sort of themes with my Christmas trains, last year I've done an all steam train Christmas, and this year I've done an all diesel train Christmas

Wow! Im getting a Hornby Rothery Industries loco, its arriving late January since i live in the states, its going to be my first Hornby since i have mostly bachmann's and model power's, what inexpensive loco's do you recommend me simon? Ps, I've been subbed for a while, have you reviewed the Rothery industries? If not can you review it?
