- With Memberships Gifting, you and your existing channel members can purchase “Gift Memberships” for other viewers who aren’t yet members. A pre-set number of channel memberships can be bought in a single purchase during a live stream or Premiere, then TH-cam will “gift” this set number out to other viewers in your community. Your viewers who receive a Gift Membership get 1 month of access to your channel membership perks - like loyalty badges, custom emoji and more - without paying any charges. Any eligible creator with Memberships will be enabled for this feature, and you'll receive your usual channel membership revenue share from each transaction.

A cool feature, I'd like to see this for non-live streams, as someone who never live streams. Also as the channel owner, it would also be nice to be able to give specific accounts free permanent memberships, like friends and family.

If you're not live then how would the person who bought the gift memberships know who received them? Or receive a thank you message from the recipients? There would be no point to buy them in the first place and would result in a bad user experience if someone did buy them. You can always give your friends and family mod if you just want them to have a different color name. Or you know they could buy a membership and support you if they want to. If you can give it to everyone then it really means nothing at that point.

This is a nice idea. But it would be great to see this expanded out to regular videos. It would be very easy to set this up so that you have the option to gift anyone membership and then write a message telling them why you did it. Free gift memberships would be great for channel owners to reward particularly active members of the community. YT could give each owner a certain number of free memberships running at any given time (for which neither YT nor the channel owner receive any revenue) and then offer the option to purchase more. There are members of my community who are really active, and do wonders for engaging with others, and I would like to make them members, but I know they can't afford a monthly contribution.

There's nothing wrong with people watching your streams being able to gift memberships to other people watching your streams. Why you would want to discourage people from buying others memberships just baffles me, since it puts money in your pocket! You can always take the money earned from members buying other subs gifted memberships and reinvest them in the chsnnel by gifting memberships yourself. I'm NOT saying that it wouldn't be great if TH-cam allowed creators to gift a certain number of memberships per month for free - I'm not saying that at all!! But I certainly don't understand why you would have a problem with your members giving memberships to oyher subs! Could you please explain that to me? I'm subbed to a number of channels (Mostly LawTubers) where we have wonderful, generous angels who gift memberships on a regular basis. As much as I'd love to support these channels myself, I have other financial obligations that take precedence; personally I support a bunch of otherwise homeless kitties, abandoned by their heartless (imo) previous owners. Others are on fixed incomes, or work at jobs that don't leave enough left over after living expenses are paid out. Some of these angels gift out 10 to 50 - or more! - memberships per live stream!! These folks are universally loved by creators and other subs alike! They regularly gift more memberships per month, each, than you're even suggesting would be reasonable for TH-cam to allow you to give free. Why on earth would you ever want to discourage that?!?!
@@theladyinblack3055 the point that I was trying to make, was that if we, as creators, were able to gift a free membership for a month to people, once that month was up, perhaps they would want to purchase the membership. I don't see how we, as creators, should have to pay TH-cam for the privilege of gifting a membership to our own channel, when we are the ones putting the work and effort in. It's not about discouraging others from buying memberships for people, quite the opposite!!!!!! Bring it on!

hi for those channels that are not monetized, it would be nice if subscribers can donate or support a creator before it gets monetized with some gift to help with income for startup creators.
I hope you’re able to have opt-in by default at some point, because otherwise that’s kinda confusing and is a hassle.
Good start TH-cam but personally, I would like to be able gift memberships to specific people so I can give it to ones I know have supported the channel the most with comments, interaction etc.
Also, there should be an option to gift one at a time. Most people could be scared off from gifting to 5 random people but you could easily have 5 or more people gifting 1 sub to someone they may know from other livestreams. 💚

An option to gift an specific member would be nice. Also for everyone to have the option already enabled to be able to receive gifts. Wasn’t aware the viewers had to enable that as an option when someone gifts members therefore some missing out on it.
Would be nice if they removed the "optional" for receiving, should just be on auto.

SJWs who come into streams to virtue signal, wouldn't want a gift, because it would look like they are supporting that channel, rather than opposing it. and would be cancelled by their own community.
I believe this was happening during the Hogwarts Legacy boycott. Protestors were being gifted subs (on Twitch), forcing them offline, lest they be seen with the mark of supporting some VTuber who played the game.

I don't have Gifted Memberships for my Channel and can't opt in with my branded account either, so you're not alone.
@@EZLO21 My channel is branded but I offer gifted membership for my channel (I filled the request form but seems that might not be needed in order to get it activated for ones channel any longer)
@@MrsCubsDen I filled one out too, and I can't receive them from other channels and I don't have the ability to give them yet that I know of.

I am in the same boat - cannot get one because of my branded account however I can buy Membership for others for channels I am a member of.
@@EZLO21 Only channel members can see the gifted membership option and hence buy. Channel members and channel owners who have the feature can gift Membership for others.

What would be really cool is building up something called a hype train that takes advantage of Superchats and Gifted Sub. If, for example, a streamer gets a few Superchats, or paid Memberships or Gifted Memberships, within just a few minutes of each other, a little window pops up at the top of chat (in TH-cam it could drop down just underneath the Superchat window) - On Twitch it says Hype Train - a good appreciative audience can then pick something to contribute.
I just saw this occur a few minutes ago on a Twitch streamers live stream and it resulted in her making about $10,000 for the stream. On Twitch its a 50/50 split o TH-cam this would be a 70/30 split so a streamer could potentially make $7000 in just a few minutes on top of regular memberships. - Of course the dollar amount would be different every time this occurs but it would be a good thing to generate revenue passively. - That Twitch streamer is fairly big so it would take awhile to get there but this is something TH-cam should look at, along with other addon that could make a Live Stream far more interactive for the viewer

At a certain price level channel members should be allowed to opt out of commercials on that channel's videos. This would give a very meaningful perk to purchase channel memberships to channels that you most watch on the platform. Let's say 2 € a month would support the channel and youtube enough to opt out from video commercials on that channel?

I love the feature and was lucky enough to participate in a user study before. Really interesting feature and it certainly worked for me.
Got some gifted memberships and gifted some to the community
TH-cam finally making some moves! I think it’s a step in the right direction but it’s kind of weird that gifting is only allowed to live channels when many TH-cam creators don’t live stream.
This is to directly encourage competition with Twitch as Twitch has had this for a long time. TH-cam also created something called a Live Re-direct - which is essentially the equivalent of a Twitch raid, but done with safeguards to try and prevent brigading - which happens all to often on Twitch by various people. - basically you re-direct your audience to another streamer, so other streamer can be exposed to that audience and get a few subs in the process
This is a nice idea, but it would be more appealing if the person who is purchasing the gift can give it to a person of their choice.

So in order for someone to receive a gifted membership, someone else needs to first gift some and THEN they can opt-in... But do they receive the recent gifted memberships or they only allow to be able to receive them from now on? If it is the case, only after ANOTHER one gifted memberships are they able to receive them? And if someone gifts memberships and no one opts in, what happens to the money? Do I ecieve it and no one recieves memberships?

This needs to be added for people who don't live stream.
There is a problem with the 150 memberships that I gave away, they were given to inactive subscribers who never interacted with the chat and that annoyed me since less than 30 of us are connected in the chat.
Oh they don't even necessarily get given to people subscribed to that channel, I just randomly got gift membership to a TH-cam channel that I don't watch and am not subbed to

I just hope we could choose which offers (membership tiers) we can gift into, seeing the fact that it defaulted to the nearest to 5$ is kinda limiting, especially if the cheapest ones and second cheapest are mostly got the same benefits.

Glad they’re doing this but weird that you can’t gift one at a time to a specific viewer and they have to opt in. Wonder what their reasoning is for that. Great step in the right direction overall
They turned gifting a sub into a gacha mechanic, you will have to keep gifting $ubs until you can gift the viewer you want.

I need help, I don't have any option to opt-in to receive gifted memberships on any of the channels that I watch. There is no "gift settings" on the three dots menu after clicking JOIN, nor is there any option available in the live chats. I seem to be excluded while others get gifted memberships. Is this feature still not fully implemented?
Check if you are using a Branded Account. Branded accounts aren't eligible to receive Gifted memberships. Really hope that changes since I've been using this account for years without realizing it was a Branded account.
@@TheJayjayforce You're right, branded account was the problem. Can't find a way to turn it off. Ended up making a new account to become a member for one of the channels I follow.

People should be able to choose who they gift memberships to. It's weird that they are randomly distributed. Also gifting a minimum of 5 memberships is too expensive. You should be able to gift one at a time. I've had membership gifting for months and nobody has used it one time because it's too expensive to buy 5 memberships. Please consider offering these features I don't think this feature will be adopted when it's so expensive and users have to be OK with random viewers getting the memberships.

I dont care about what tiktok does, as i dont use that app. I care about youtube and how much it is losing its soul trying to compete with other platforms. "El que mucho abarca, poco aprieta". It is losing too much effort in being like, instead of creating something new, improving as what it is in its core.
