7:51 Yes, E minor pentatonic (1 fret below) over F Lydian (4 chord of C Major). Works well because E minor is the minor 3 chord of the diatonic Key of C Major. As a study, play each diatonic chord scale as a pentatonic scale vs a 7note full scale, i.e. C Maj Pentatonic, D min Pentatonic, E min Pentatonic, F Major Pentatonic, G Major Pentatonic, etc.. This aids improvisation skills.👍
I don't know if it was a coincidence but on this video there are 2 techniques related to Indian music, and i think it's great. The first is playing Lydian with the pentatonic of the -1 semitone. There is a Raga called Yaman that does exactly that on the ascending movement (you should look for it, it sounds amazing) And the other is this idea of having the central tone playing on the black and play each of the notes to and hear how they sound on top of the root note. That's exactly what happens in most of the Indian music, there is always a central tone and all the other notes grow from that one, there is no modulation. Great video!
Compare to Paul, because of him i started watching yours. Yours is like a master class. Be honest i cant catchup quite yet. But it’s helpful to know so much i can learn. Btw im 43 now and re-pick up my guitar. Wanna make life fun!
13:00 "It's important to *see* how we *hear* things 👀 You're seriously one of my favorite players, Rotem! Your energy and excitement about music in general is super inspirating to me. Classy musicality in every corner!
You're both incredible artists and musician! Please Rotem tell me which strap are you using here in the video? I need a comfortable wide one like yours. Keep up the good work here. Hugs
Great channel! Would you suggest learning all/most of the notes on the fretboard before attempting anything else? I’ve memorized several shapes and patterns but I know I’m missing a lot here.
This is something I struggled with for years.. Printing out a fretboard chart that has the note names to look at even when you're not at a guitar is super helpful. I also learned by shapes--the problem with shapes is you remember how they feel but you don't actually know what's in them. Look at a fretboard chart and compare it with the shapes you already know and it'll help you learn the notes on the fretboard, but it won't be so alien because you're using something you have already practiced to apply it!
Nothing in this world is new - everything borrowed - the more ppl we can teach to flow on the guitar, the better chances at a new musical renaissance .
Who keeps locking all the fretboards?! Cheers Rotem and Alon!!
I always think of the fretboard as ‘blocked’ until you understand it. So ‘unblocking’ makes more sense to me.
Lol!!!
The man, the man keeps locking them fretboards.
Hilarious haha
Hahahahahahahah
Great lesson though!
Beautiful tone on the blue guitar.
Great tempo of the lesson and thank you for including sheet music (and ofc Tab)

so musical, just playing C major scale
Honest...nice, but too much showing off your playing than teaching. Too much jumping around.
That too much to watch in one sitting.
