  • The Tokong Si Thian Kong is reputedly the largest Taoist temple in Kuala Pilah, Malaysia. It may eventually expand to become the largest temple in the country with the blessing of its donors and supporters. The main deity worshipped at this temple is the Nine Emperor Gods (Jiu Wang Ye - 九王爷). The birth date of the Nine Emperor Gods falls on the 9th day of the ninth lunar month. A yearly festival is held to celebrate their birthday, attracting a huge congregation of devotees. During the festival, there’s a street procession accompanied by lion and dragon dances, and devotees follow behind sedans carrying statues of accompanying deity gods and sacred urns. The temple, originally called Sam Seng Keong Temple, was located in Kuala Pilah town before being relocated to Jalan Tampin in 200912. The new temple, which is still under construction, is about 7 km from the old temple along the main road towards Tampin. It covers 18 acres and boasts grandeur and dynamism in design and layout. During Chinese New Year, the temple is impressively illuminated with sparkling decorations, turning the whole place into an attraction similar to the River Hongbao celebration in Singapore1. If you’re interested in visiting, it’s a spectacular sight to behold!
