Now don’t let that take away from how amazing you thought it was, though, because he said that he struggled because he gave up on singing when he was young. That’s why no one seemed to know he was operatically trained, because he quit singing. He was worried about this movie and didn’t think he could do it, he even asked the director if he could only do one song but they literally told him no so he kept practicing and this is what we got - and I’m sooooo thankful for it!
Love how diverse this song is. She's talking about fixing a relationship with her father. He's talking about fixing a toy and it can also be talking about fixing a romantic relationship. John Legend really outdid himself with this one.

I think this song sums up a powerful difference between this movie and most holiday movies. The characters are going to make it work. There is magic, and 'believe in yourself' shtick but at every single turn, even the bad guy, someone is actively doing a thing as well. Thinking, building, engineering, calculating. No fairy godmother, no waving wands because all you need is a good heart. You need to have a good heart and you have to be willing to do the work. Amazing!
