I hope the folks around you appreciate this, sometimes how we do things is more important than what we do.

The convent was looking beautiful today - so light and bright and clean with the sun pouring in. I liked the bit where you went to get the plasterboard as it showed the layout and all the work you'd done. It's great to see the kitchen being used too - a lovely workspace.

Billy, the fire place is wonderful. We did a faux marble effect for grey marble at the War Memorial. We were restoring a section in a small room and the marble section was absent, not in the budget to replace so we fauxed it! Faux was already in the memorial with the large steele doors made to look like oak doors. Agree with you about doing the faux on the sides will look beautiful.
Faux marble painting is always so lovely and fun to do to trick the eye!! Great idea! As always the plans are in your creative mind and we get to see it come alive!!!

I don’t know if you have them in France, but in America, we have these little fire place heaters so it feels like a real fire. Maybe you could install one of those inside.
With some patience, I’m sure you’ll find some marble slabs to fill in those sides. Might have to make some cuts but these are common enough that you won’t need to bother painting some faux-marbre onto the sides
It would be nice to see a video all about your dad like you did for Yanis. Call it "Petherick Patriarch". I'm sure he could tell some great stories about his life.
In the 18th and early 19th centuries, many fireplaces were quite shallow, especially if they were not used for cooking. Shallow fireplaces reflect the heat out into the room rather than losing it up the chimney. About 20 years back, Debbie Travis had a TV Show "Painted House" in which she discussed things like faux marble effects. If unsure how to paint imitation marble you could do worse than googling her technique.

An iron backplash with motive world be lovely. Many chateau chimneys have it. You can find old ones at Leboncoin (Plaque de cheminée de château en fer du 18ème siècle) If you are lucky, you might find grey marble too

Use salt wash when painting the sides of the fire, using both grey and white paint, then sand it down for a marble effect.
