- Next up in the second episode of the "One of Us" series, we are introducing the second largest dialect group in Singapore, the Teochews. What are some of their influences in our day-to-day life? Watch to find out more!
"One of Us" is a video series on dialect culture in Singapore. Having two parts, Part A is a tribute to the dialect group. It is a collage of everything from favourite foods and sayings to traditional practices and insider jokes to tease out the spirit of the dialect group. Outsiders get a sense of the 'flavour' of the dialect group and people of the dialect group feel the pride of being 'one of them'.
Part B highlights the complexity and commonalities of dialect cultures through a different type of “zijiren” 自己人 - tribes of people banded by how they experience dialect culture in today's context.

潮州人在澳洲
潮汕人是海洋民族。打魚為生。又稱水上人。白話人和客家人口中的鶴佬便是所指潮汕人。潮汕鶴佬雖然源于福建莆田但又于閩南人有分別。陳元光到福建把閩越土著潮汕佬從苦莆田趕去現今潮汕地區。所以潮汕人不是白話人又非閩南人。
潮汕人是独立的族群，希望大家不要把我们潮汕人归为闽南人😊
潮州人是潮州八邑的人，不等於潮汕人。潮汕包括了海陸豐，汕尾。這裡說的是潮州人。

My grandfather surname 詹 .he immigrated to Thailand from Puning (not sure maybe Pow Leng).I want to travel there oneday 😊

Half Teochew on my mother's side, half hakka on my father's. I am proud of both my heritages and dialect groups! Teochew pride forever! My Teochew mother taught me how to plan ahead by growing money, my Hakka father taught me to survive. We should all be proud of our Chinese heritages / dialect groups! Always proud of my Teochew side!

是呀，王沙是潮州人，野峰是客家人。小时候时常看他们的作品，学到了很多新加坡华人多姿多彩的方言，也理解到南洋星州华人不同社群的文化与风俗。

@@danielponidi2722 it’s a self deprecation joke among us, there were historic rivalries between teochew and hockkeins in Singapore. Teochews often said hokkien people are untrustworthy, and hokkien said teochews are show offs that ‘want face’.
@@madsam0320 i see i see 😆... Hokkiens are twice or more larger than Teochews rite? Not only in SG, but in SEA and China as well
@@danielponidi2722 yes, teochews are first to Singapore, later hokkien migrations changed the demographics.
