  • The Legend of Sharper Image with Founder, Richard Thalheimer
//Richard Thalheimer is the legendary founder and former CEO of American consumer brand, The Sharper Image. He established The Sharper Image in 1977, inspired by a $69 jogger’s watch that he owned and other runners admired. The first runner’s watch was advertised in Runner’s World magazine and led to the success of The Sharper Image catalog, first launched in 1979. The San Francisco, California company began with only three employees.
When Thalheimer left in 2006, there were more than 4,000 full and part-time associates, 195 stores and a thriving internet and catalog business. At its peak, the company had annual revenues exceeding $750 million. The company became a public corporation in 1987 when its stock was offered on Nasdaq under the symbol SHRP. In 2007, Thalheimer started his own retail online store, RichardSolo.com, which is still in business.

I bought the same unit in 1995. I still have it, but haven’t used it in many years. It’s just too outdated with not being able to stream music through it or anything. For CD’s or radio, it’s good, but I don’t consume my music that way anymore. It’s a great sounding unit though for what it is.

You were their target buyer, it was seen as an introduction model both by its concept and price point 👍

Mine runs in our kitchen since some 35 years. The last ten years mainly with an Echo-Dot on Aux. Our teenagers love it - for the boom. Just had to replace the glass sliding mechanism once. Amazing sound.

I think B&O trying to be different kind of hurt them. It was expensive and most people couldn’t afford the price. They should have started their own finance company which would have put more systems in peoples homes. I still have my B&O system from the 70’s. It sounds great.

Ye Gods its Swiss Tony!… You know Paul loading a cd into a century is like making love to a beautiful woman!!! You can blame the fast show and my age for this comment.HeHe Nowadays the cloth frets would be supported by skinny play and Kavidat cloth. Can you imagine this style of advert today where the guy informs the “less knowledgeable “ lady how to operate it.
