This is a kind of video that I am looking for, very detailed, easy to follow instructions, and most of the vid dont have fast track mode...very appetizing for beginners like me..
I have now made seven of these, ranging from 15cm width, up to 50cm. I love making them. I will gift them or they will be found in a box in years to come. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing tutorial ❤
This is by far the most comprehensive tutorial I have ever watched regarding macrame knots. Even with your shorter knot tutorials,I am just like "Thank God someone gets it!"
Could you please make some more videos! You are the only person I found that explains your creations so well.. including videos and adding written descriptions in your video as well! We all could learn easily from your videos.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you! I am in the process of moving countries at the moment (from NZ to the USA) but once I've settled in will definitely be making more videos :)
Since the outer of the 4 cords (square knot) are used more, you can make them longer and the two inner cords shorter. I am trying that now on a new tree of life project. My neighbor bought one of my tree of life macramé wall hangings and then ordered one for her daughter in law. The next week she ordered 3 more for Christmas gifts. I have given away lots too. My daughter bought me a tree of life necklace- I love it. I hung a small owl over the top and even have a Kokopelli Indian hanging at the bottom. I love owls and native American thoughts.
I am 4:40 into this video, and I'm DEFINITELY going to make this! But also, its just so soothing a video for me to watch, even without making it along with you. Thank you for making such a pleasant and informative video. 💯🥰

This video was so good that even a person who never did macrame at all could follow along with this. I love it. I hate making stuff I would never use, and this is so pretty I would love to hang it on my wall!
Oh my goodness! You don’t even know what you just started with this beautiful tutorial. I’ve been struggling all morning trying to make stars out of slippery 1.5mm cord for a nursery mobile to give my daughter-in-law. That project just got scrapped, and this gorgeous tree of life is taking its place! I found you on Instagram and hit that follow button. I will tag you in the photo when I get mine made. Your work is absolutely astonishing!
I made a smaller one and checked my calculator to adjust, came out great. Now working on one per your video. Great Instructions and one of the prettiest tree of life I’ve seen. Thank you.
I’m going to make the branches with different autumn colors and a golden brown for the trunk. THANK YOU for posting this, I have been looking for the perfect beginner Tree of Life! ❤❤❤
The 26 pieces would be 98 inches long each (=8.1 feet), according to my conversion table. You need a total of 213 feet (65 metres) in total for the project. If you buy a tape measure with inches on one side and cm on the other it's a great help and avoids having to look at conversion tables. Good luck, it's a really fun and easy project.
This is what I was just doing. Trying to figure out how much 2.5 m is and saying. Wow! That’s a lot of chord. But I guess it works! Gonna give it a try. My hoop is slightly smaller only 8in or 20.32 cm. So I should have plenty to work with. Going to hang some antique brass Indian bells from the bottom like a wind chime. Wish me luck!
Die Anleitung ist super! Gut verständlich und in einem sehr guten Tempo. Ich habe das erste Mal mit Maccramee gearbeitet und es hat direkt sehr gut gekkappt! Vielen Dank❤
I have watched many different tree of life/macrame/dream catchers...whilst they have all been enjoyable. It has only been your tutorial where I have felt you were in the room with me guiding my tree of life. Thank you so much. 🤗👌
very easy to follow. I must have had a smaller loom so my tree trunk turned out a little bit too short. I just went back and shortened the branches a bit. Then on another loom and it was a bit larger so I lengthen the amount of cord and came out a bit short on some. Now I have learned how to lengthen the cords. I have already made 3 macrame tree of life dream catchers. I gave 2 to friends and mine is hanging on my night lamp and I attached an owl pendant to hang in there with it. Thank you, Emily
My only addition after trying this as my first ever makrame - when you get to 7+ half knots - turn over your piece, that way you avoid it getting more and more difficult to get pretty knots. Repeat every 7 ish knots. Especially for that 22(?) knot one, this is my best tip
Hello! Your tutorial has great quality, very well explained, step by step. Easy to follow and learn. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, thank you for teaching.
Hi Emily, I loved your video. You made it so easy to understand, the way you went over everything so carefully without a lot of talking and music. You made it very relaxing to watch. Being stuck in the house because of the situation, I'm anxious to make one of my own ASAP. Can you please tell me how long your strands are, and the diameter of the ring. Can't wait. Thank you
Thankyou for sharing Ure macrame tree of life I enjoyed watching Ure tutorial,I am definitely going 2 make 1 thanks again for sharing loved it it makes making dream catchers 2 a different level.👍🥰💯💖
A customer asked me if I could make a tree of life for them and found your tutorial to be great. I have made many more since as people are in love with them!!
I had to go up to a 14-inch (35.5 cm) hoop to make the 3mm cord work, and it worked better for me to set up so the inner cords on each section only had 1/3 of the length. All that aside, the video was easy to follow ( thanks for leaving the instructions on the screen!) I was able to finish it on my second try (had to take it out to switch to the larger hoop), it took less than half a day of work, and it looks great! I’m going to give it to my mom for Mother’s Day. Thank you!
Thank you for your comment about having to reduce the length of the inner cords by 1/3. After tying sections 4 - 8 together, I did not have enough inner-cord length to tie all of the cords together to finish, and the cords were definitely not long enough to tie to the frame and to tie the square knots. The cords in the video look to be of similar length when tying them to the frame, although I did not find that to be the case. I am now in the process of re-tying this hanging and feel it will come out better now. I do know about swapping inner and outer cords so the lengths are similar, but I could not swap them so that they looked right.
I made my first ever macrame piece, thanks to your wonderful tutorial. Yesterday I made my 2nd. I would like to make a 50cm size, do I just double the amounts? I've just ordered 8mm jump rings so I can follow your earring tutorial. Thanks for sharing ❤
What a beautiful job you have done, and your patience and explicit directions are amazing! I have subscribed, and will tell friends of mine as well! Thank you!!
Bonjour, et entièrement d'accord avec vous toutes et tous, c'est de loin le mieux expliqué avec tt les descriptions écrites en plus MERCI MERCI, mais cela je le commence aujourd'hui grâce à vous 👍😉🙏
Simple, easy instructions. Slow to follow...which I LIKE!!! 😎🖒🖒....The only part that got me was when you tied off the "roots" (if you will) of the tree. You called it a square knot, but skipped the process. Just wondering exactly what you did there b4 finishing the rest. I adore this tree, would like to know how you would go about adding beads to the branches?? At what stage would you do so?? Ty for your time. 😊❤❤
Hi! Here's a link to another one of my videos which will show you more clearly how to tie a square knot: th-cam.com/video/zesIHOBs1zw/w-d-xo.html The way that I would add beads to the tree, is wherever you want them, put the bead through the two strands that hang at the centre of the square knot, and then tie the square knot around the bead. Hopefully if you watch the square knot video this makes sense! You could also tie the beads into the fringe of the tree :)
Great simple to understand instructions for a beginner. Really pleased with my finished tree. I was a little disappointed in the amount of waste after I had trimmed the “roots” a little. Guidance on using shorter lengths in the relevant areas would be helpful. 🥰
Hi, I just finished the tree of life which was pretty easy to follow but even though I had a 26 cm hoop and 3mm macrame cord, the tree was too big.It looks like I should have used a 30 cm hoop. Is it because the cord is 4-ply? If so I will start over with a smaller ply. Thanks.
I'm not too sure - it would probably be better to go on the bigger side, maybe try 13-14 inches? That way if it's a little big you can just tie some more knots in the trunk to make the trunk longer.
Me gusto mucho tu explicacion, corta y consisa, se ve mucho mejor el proceso paso a paso. Espero ver mas de tus videos. Mucho abrazos desde Torrevieja☀️☀️😊☀️👍👍
Great video and easy to follow! I'm trying to make it, but my question is what should i do if i ran out 2 strands in the middle of the tree? I use the 10 inches hoop and use the exact length as in your tutorial. Thanks
Have you run out of cord after you've tie all the branches? If so, I would tie the ends into the trunk just like the video, but then trim the ends at the bottom of the trunk if they aren't long enough to reach the hoop. Hope this makes sense! This will also mean that you wont have the correct number of threads to tie all of the square knots at the end, but you could leave a single cord hanging at each end and I'm sure it would look fine :) Hope this makes sense!
@@EmilyCouldMakeThat thank you so much. I run out the cord before tie all the branches. But, finally i make some adjustment for the number of the knots and it works! Thanks for the design!
My thanks and deepest appreciation for this beautiful project. You are an excellent teacher. For being my first project it came out very nice. I did struggle with interpreting the cord length, as you indicated. I'm also wondering whether its normal to end up with different cord lengths? Alicia
I loved the way this came out, but I ran into a problem at the end. I think I may have the wrong size hoop. I have a 10 inch, hoop, should it be a 12 inch? I don't have the room to tie off at the bottom. Thank You!
Hello, Thank you for making such an easy to follow tutorial, I have made two of these and have run into the same issue twice...the branches seem way to long to connect at the middle to make the final trunk. I counted and recounted the half knots and ultimately had to reduce the number of half knots used. Has anyone else mentioned this to you, what am i doing wrong...
Hi there, I haven't had any problems with this before - This may happen if the hoop size is smaller or the cord being used is thicker than the recommended 3mm :)

Great tutorial!
What size ring would you use for 4 mm? I tried the 10 inch and it was way to small.
Thanks !
I'm not too sure - it would probably be better to go on the bigger side, maybe try 13-14 inches? That way if it's a little big you can just tie some more knots in the trunk to make the trunk longer.
It was really helpful for my school homework thank you❤
Me gusto mucho tu explicacion, corta y consisa, se ve mucho mejor el proceso paso a paso. Espero ver mas de tus videos.
Mucho abrazos desde Torrevieja☀️☀️😊☀️👍👍

I loved this, I just made one. Looks great but it took me a while to get the bottom. Thanks for the great video!
Hi Paula, can you translate the measurements in inches, centimeters etc. Thank you. Alicia
Hi
Just wondering if you are able to tell me how long the cord would be if I was using a 17.5cm diameter ring? Hope you can help!
Many thanks 🙏
Muy bonito estoy aprendiendo tratando de hacer uno 🤦pero ahí voy gracias por compartir muy bonito trabajo 👍👍👍👍🇨🇱🇨🇱♥️♥️👏👏👍👍👍
I made it, with you it was really nice and easy, thank you so much.
Great easy to follow video, thank you
Thank you for this video. Start and completed my first macrame. Wish I could send you a picture of it.
I would love to see it!! If you are able to, you can send it me me on instagram @emilycouldmakethat or email emilycouldmakethat@gmail.com :)
@@EmilyCouldMakeThat thank you I will
Great video and easy to follow!
I love that tree of life and I will have a go at making it thank you
Thank you!
My thanks and deepest appreciation for this beautiful project. You are an excellent teacher. For being my first project it came out very nice. I did struggle with interpreting the cord length, as you indicated. I'm also wondering whether its normal to end up with different cord lengths? Alicia
Yes because every cord you tie with will be much shorter than the inner cords that are basically "fillers"
I loved the way this came out, but I ran into a problem at the end. I think I may have the wrong size hoop. I have a 10 inch, hoop, should it be a 12 inch? I don't have the room to tie off at the bottom. Thank You!
thank you very much for clear explanation - i am just a beginner - i am going to make it
Very beautiful tree of life. I would like to do it on a circle of 60 cm in diameter, what should I modify? Thank you for your reply
Hi there, it is hard for me to say without having made it myself first!
love this but I have a bigger hoop how would I compensate on the length of the ropes
Thanks for this great update.
Me ha encantado tu Tutorial. Tan bien explicado. Absolutamente perfecto 👌. Muchísimas gracias 😊
I had thar problem too. The hoop is the right size and I also made the working cords longer than the filler cords.
This looks so easy
