      Does the Subaru need a valve body? That generation is notorious for them to fail in hot weather. Replaced a number of them when I was a Subaru tech.

    I don't know how far a drive it is to the auction, but I think I would have driven back to get them. Looked like a big pain to hotwire them. Good score on the card however. You can never go wrong with a Toyota. Love my 2023 Camry and 2018 Toyota iM.

      I drive a 32 year old toyota starlet. I've had it for 3 years now. I only did the downpipe, radiator, wheelbaring and thempature censor. It's still reliable and passed the safety checks without any issues! It just likes to drink oil like a two stroke!

    Be careful about where you set an airbag down. Anything that will create a static charge can set it off too

    I think you got a great deal on both! Very rare 5 speed Camry too! My sister's 1998 Camry was at 214k miles when it started rusting really bad back in 2013. So she "upgraded" to a 2011 Toyota RAV4.

    I'm not sure anyone has filled you in yet, but the Subaru CVT issue is likely just the solenoid pack on the trans. It's far cheaper than replacing the entire transmission and typically fixes it long term. MrSubaru has excellent videos on the topic. Not a terribly difficult job.

    • @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182
      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Ah, thanks. i'll take a watch. Its also throwing codes for the torque converter and valve body, would this fix that?

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Oh he also has a video called TR580 Valve Body Replacement which I believe is the exact one you'd be dealing with and he has a vid on torque converter failure if that ends up being relevant. I think that being the actual problem is very rare.

    • @mitchstarr

    • @802Garage
      @802Garage ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mitchstarr Yeah bizarrely Subaru still does a lot of transmission replacements, but I think it's unfortunately down to flat rate mechanics wanting to make more money swapping a trans, which is rather easy in a Subaru, than they would make just doing the valve body.

    I have a 2003 Camry with the 2.4L 4 cyl engine and it has 211k on it and runs great. Watch for the head bolt threads stripping out of the block and causing overheating - had this problem but got the top half of the engine rebuilt and new head bolt studs for $1500 total and it runs like new. Also they like to burn a quart oil every 1,000 miles or so.

I think all modern cars are unreliable junk no matter the brand. I'll stick with my 96 Rav4. Nice buys on the two toyotas. I guess the Scion threw a fit and got itself a black-eye. 😂😊❤
