      agree. talk through the door (you can hear a knock or doorbell ring) and stay silent if you are not expecting company. no need to lower car window to talk either. you can hear through glass too. stay and be safe!

    And this is also why you NEVER just open your door when someone rings the bell or knocks on it. Ask who is it? from behind a closed locked door. You don't owe anyone a face to face conversation.

      One time right before Christmas I heard my decorations of bells ringing cause they are on the door knob. Someone was trying to get in hard enough to ring my bells. I ran to the door and all I saw was a flash running awsy to the right so I couldn’t see who it was.

      That is the thing that upset me most they think they have a "right" to do what they do and get upset when they get caught, just like package theft, like I knew it happened but after watching a video on TH-cam showing just how people really will take anything, like if they drive by and see a package they will stop get out their car to take it.

      The woman at 1:24 actually came to her door. The guy asked, "who lives here?" she says "I do" ......he asked "do I know you" she says "no". She has a ring doorbell, why are you answering the door and talking face to face with some random guy at night that you've never seen before.? What's the use in having a ring doorbell if you are not going to use it to communicate with strangers without opening the door? That was mindboggling, I just don't understand.

    • @Iris-zq5mq
      @Iris-zq5mq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      Unfortunately, chains offer a false sense of security. A determined intruder can easy force the door open and snap those off or can be cut while the intruder slides their foot/leg and body in between the door. Best thing to do is to not open the door to strangers. Speak through camera or via window/door.

    …It’s common in this area. I double lock the doors, have and old fashioned aluminum screen door with a locking handle and an inner heavy old fashioned wood door with a bolt lock. Cops told me those types of doors tend to discourage thieves, too much trouble to get through. Still get a lot of ‘lost people’ looking for ‘someone’. Think they are trying to get you to come and open the door so they can push their way in. Also ring the doorbell to see if you are home. If you are not they attempt to break in. If you are they say sorry and walk away. Next door neighbor was sitting out in his yard and a guy climbed over the fence and walked through the yard and tried to get in my back door. They told him you don’t live there, we know the people who do, and he walked away. This was in the middle of the day. There is little to no incentive for criminals to change. Since it is profitable they won’t stop and justice is a revolving door. Don’t say move, can’t afford it…

    Be careful about windows and pet doors too. And be legally prepared to open fire if anyone breaks in. Make sure to look out the window before opening your doors to exit. Always look to see who’s around. Review your security footage to see if creeps came around while you were away or asleep.

      No kidding. My adult daughter didn't see the need to lock her front door or her car door on her SUV. At one time we lived in the same complex and I would walk over to lock her door or check to see if it was locked every night. BTW, my 3 grandchildren were inside. After a tablet was stolen from her SUV she started locking her vehicle and her now husband insists she lock the doors at home day and night. I'm so relieved.

    I'm a senior citizen now but I remember growing up in Detroit we would leave our front and back doors open and have a screen door for flow-through ventilation, it worked really well even with a slight breeze. Of course the courts actually punished criminals back then and the police were allowed to do their job without fear of getting sued for hurting someone's feelings.

U basically giving them an open invitation to your belongings at your property. I just thought I'd mention that, I didn't see any comment posted on it. And also if u do leave your house, PLEASE don't forget to be sure security system on, tell a trusted neighbor or friend to get your mail every day and leave several lights on inside and outside. That'll create the allusion that somebody's home. One more thing u can inform your local police dept, the Chief, that u will be out of town and to occasionally ride by your house. Depending on the the dept, most of the time they will do it. Now they not gonna babysit your house, but they will be more visible in your area when they can. Be Safe 🥰

    • @LittleBittySaidit
      @LittleBittySaidit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment reminded me of a Kevin Hart comedy show….he talks about people that hide weapons. He’s like, if you meet an intruder in the kitchen, tell the intruder “hold on, I’ve got some fries cooking in the oven they’re gonna burn”….so you can get your hidden gun out of the oven. Or ask the intruder “hood on you want a cookie”, cus you hid a pistol in the cookie jar! “Want me to wash your shirt”, cus you hid a pistol in the laundry room! Look it up, It’s pretty funny and kinda true! I still have a few hidden myself in hopes that I’ll get to them before hand, but he’s right about some of it (in certain situations).
      I still agree with you tho, there’s too many crazy people to take any chances. Especially after my own experiences with intruders.

My 3rd or 4th night I didnt lock my bedroom door. Lucky me it's the same night someone decided to use cement blocks to climb over the 2nd floor balcony. 😣 I believe by God's grace the guy accidentally turned on my bedroom light and woke me up before he could put a knife on my neck like he did to my parents maid before coming to my room!
