  • Raghu Markus returns to Here and Now to present this bonus excerpt from a talk titled “Behind the Clinging,” which features Ram Dass discussing how to deal with neuroses, fear, and family.
In this portion of his talk about going “Behind the Clinging,” Ram Dass explores:
    - Dealing with depression and sadness, and making friends with all of your neuroses instead of trying to get rid of them
    - Coming to the edge of fear and embracing it in a soft way without pushing against it
    - Dealing with family members who really know how to push your buttons and using those experiences as a way to grow
“And you begin to see how exquisitely the ego is articulated in such subtle ways, it’s such a beautiful painting, it is an incredible painting. The question is can you find a frame that allows you to see that it’s a painting because you see an edge of the sky at the corner? Go for the sky, don’t try to change the painting. Be a stylistic, happy, neurotic mess. Like me.” - Ram Dass
    About Ram Dass:
Ram Dass’ spirit has been a guiding light for generations, carrying along millions on the journey. Ram Dass teaches that through the Bhakti practice of unconditional love, we can all connect with our true nature. Through these teachings, Ram Dass has shared a little piece of his guru, Maharajji, with all who have listened to him.

I don’t know what this video is about yet.
But I’ve been clinging on to so many things and it feels like a timely reminder by Ram Dass.
    Raghu you are the best.

I'm sure some people like it. Some don't. 🤷‍♂️
If they wanted to they could remove the skip comments and they do not so that's fine.

It's not the ego that is the problem. It is the shadow and the primal wound deep in the unconscious that is driving the ego. This is what needs to be healed and integrated. Without an ego, one is a psychotic. I wish the "spiritual" people would study psychology before they go bashing the ego. Most people do not have a sufficiently strong ego to endure the journey to the other side of the veil.

I've been in and out of depression for 40 years. On my own, meditation, crying, and everything else in between. Daily work on releasing.

Psychology has moved on an evolved way past Freud. I agree with the other comment that spiritual people should study current psychology before giving out opinions about the ego and how the mind works
