Another valid explanation is Stephen was quoting the Septuagint (as it cites these same math discrepancies). The Scriptures, in fact, are not in error: Gen 23:17- note that there are 2 different burial sites- 1 purchased by Abraham, 1 purchased by Jacob. (See Gen 33). And note that Skekem- not Machpelah.
If we accept the explanation regarding the claim that Stephen was using the SP but Abraham was born when Terah was 70 years but didn't leave until Terah was 205 years, then we have another problem i.e. How could Isaac have been born when Abraham was 100 years old if he didn't leave until he was 135 years old? Also, it should be noted that the text doesn't say Abraham was born when Terah was 70 but that Abram, Nahor, and Haran were born [starting?] at age 70; there is no indication that these brother's were triplets and we do not know the birth order. Note: that Ge. 9:18 and Ge. 9:24 demonstrates that the order that names were given is not an indication of age.
Gen 23:17-19 KJV 17 And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure 18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city. 19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. The same is Hebron in the land of Canaan. Gen 33:18-20 KJV 18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city. 19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money. 20 And he erected there an altar, and called it Elelohe-Israel. Shechem near Shalem in Canaan.
Steven is full of the Holy Spirit so I would think that what he is quoting is true. Unless you stating that The Holy Spirit is filling him with errors.
Your lessons are so good Tom.I truly appreciate them
