Hey Alice, I am a trained gardener and horticulturalist, just want to chime in. Interveinal chlorosis showing up on newer leaves first like that pic is a classic symptom of an iron deficiency. A magnesium deficiency will show up as Interveinal chlorosis on older leaves first. they do look similar, but it's about where the Interveinal chlorosis first appears in determining which nutrient deficiency is causing it. The reason both iron and magnesium deficiency show up as Interveinal chlorosis is due to them both being needed in the production of chlorophyll. iron is needed in chlorophyll production and magnesium is needed in the chlorophyll molecule itself. the reason these deficiencies show up in different areas is due to the mobility of these nutrients in the plant, magnesium is mobile, and so deficiency symptoms show up in older leaves as magnesium is moved to new growth. iron is immobile and so does not move to new growth when there is a deficiency, so it shows up on new growth first. I hope this is helpful

I think you made a really great point about how expressive anthuriums are. It makes them easy to care for as long as you aren't obsessed with perfect looking leaves and this is why my collection is 90% anthuriums. I love them

And if you’re obsessed with perfect leaves you always have the option of chopping off all the ugly ones without the whole plant looking weird!

it's actually amazing how much thought you've put into each of these examples, like going and researching the mixes they used and how detailed you went into everything. You're awesome!

And I thought I was knowledgeable 🤡 listening to you talk about anthuriums is literally so cool because you clearly know the science behind the plant care which is why you have such good success!! And still you’re relatable, you know what you need to do but you’re a human so your plants aren’t all perfect. 🤩

Because of your information, I took ALL of my anthuriums out of the mix I had with coco coir, they were NOT growing and I actually thought I was losing some seedlings. I made a chunky tree fern mix (tree fern, #3 perlite, worm castings, diy pon mix) and repotted and man oh man - they have ALL done a 360 THANKFULLY. They are looking amazing. Thank you so much for your information and education!

Thank you for the advice on my fausto-clari! I gave myself a firm facepalm about not letting it dry more than others. That’s how I grow the other clari I have. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏻

Hair is soooo cute! Thanks for all your information.. much appreciated ❤ and knowing I have you and your knowledge helps me grow my few anthurium.. that are all in my living room. I don’t have any tents or humidifiers.. but maybe my average humidity is not helping my plants grow big..

Thanks for sharing your experiences Alice surrounding coco coir and the issues if it isn’t rinsed and buffered, I have stopped using it. I use Espoma Organic Peat Moss, Tree Fern, Perlite, Charcoal and Small bark. My plants love it and it’s so light and fluffy! I never had signs of the burn like this first plant, but I did not want to take the chance.

It’s so strange to me that the coco burn marks only show up on anthurium from what I’ve seen! I got a sample of the cheap coco from Charmaine and I’m so tempted to taste it to see how salty it is 😆

Interesting 🤔, my Crystallinum has these spots growing in pon. The spots began after I added Shark mycorrhiza, same kind you use. It was never in substrate. Any thoughts?
