  • A closer look at the Balloon Boy incident. The press and the police said it was a publicity stunt to make the family more marketable for future reality TV shows. But Richard Heene always claimed that it was just an accident. Tonight on Unsolved Internet Mysteries we crack the case.

2 am on a Friday night like 8 months ago I hear my overly dramatic 4 year old screaming (kid screams and cries like he's just been shot over minor things) so I go downstairs and he's got a gouge in his forehead half inch above his eye.
Obviously I started freaking out like he's dying and grabbed him, tossed him in the car and took off for the hospital.
I still catch that fucker jumping on his bed or the couch, 8 stitches later.

You know that clichè corrupt prosecutor or cop in so many crime shows/movies that says something like "so what if he's innocent of this crime, he's a bad guy and has probably broken a bunch of laws. We just haven't caught him yet"
The trope is an extension of the very silly and overly simplistic idea that there are "good people" in the world, and "bad people" in the world. That "bad people" should be punished, and the misunderstanding that the criminal justice system is punitive when in reality it's reformative.
Many people empathise with that position. It's why it's such a clichè trope of the genre, people actually think that way. When they bring up that they think he's an asshole (and we have no evidence for that either) they're saying they don't care if he's actually guilty or innocent, they don't like him so he must be a "bad guy" and deserve punishment.

While I agree with you, I do disagree on one thing.-the guilty plea. He absolutely was made to plead guilty. Most times, trying to plea not guilty could get you a hell of a lot more time... And it takes even longer for the case to find a person guilty or innocent after a long and drawn out and traumatizing (for the kids especially) trial.
Our justice system is completely broken in America. I wish Mr. Heene knew that going in. It's always portrayed in the movies that getting a lawyer automatically equals guilt.
That's just not how it works.
A lawyer could have stopped all of this from happening and from the children being traumatized by being taken away from their parents... Bc if I remember correctly, I saw a video from Mr. Heene's where he talks about losing his children over this event.
I have nothing but sympathy for them and the children.
Our justice system so desperately needs to be fixed.

Also, in the heene follow-up vid, DHS interrogated each kid for almost 3 hours each and found nothing that showed that falcon’s story was fake or that he “did it for the show”… very likely story is that falcon just misunderstood question and parents had no idea that his answer would be twisted in a way by media to imply that maybe they were faking it.

Was he thinking of his wife, his kids, all the pride that he had so suck down to made a false statement just to avoid the repercussions on going against a great injustice. Falcon was a child who was playing and hiding from his parents (as all children have done at some point), but the media spun it in a way that made him look like he was part of some grand scheme his parents cooked up for attention.

Donald Smith EXACTLY. The story might be more believable if I hadn’t seen the infomercial of him acting, the exaggerated antics etc. The ballon scene was eerily similar to the tone, behavior & acting style of the infomercial. The kids followed their scripts perfectly except when they were caught off guard w/questions they weren’t prepped on. I wanted to have an open mind about this but after finishing this video, there’s not a doubt in my mind it was a hoax.

    • @olesya458

@@maryb6672 The police was proved to be sort of corrupt. In some parts of the case the police wasn't in the law to do it. Nothing was found on any of the devices the family owned. And in the infomercial they probably had several takes while they only had one take to shoot the video with the balloon. Also, why did Richard leave his equipment on the balloon? Even if he did do it the police there deserves to be brought to justice and punished for going outside of the law. The whole case relies on flimsy pieces of evidence (if you can even call it that.) The confession (from Mayumi) given didn't make any sense so the only "evidence" could have been the boy said they did it for the show. Why did the police say that Richard called the news first while call logs show otherwise?

Typical. Police pissed off that they have no case so they get a phoney confession by grilling someone who can't speak proper english, without her lawyer present, without informing her she could have a laywer, and then threatening felony charges and deportation to force a guilty plea. They'll all congradulate themselves on a job well done, and yet another innocent person is unjustly punished, while actual criminals go unnoticed.

Grannvale Flame Emperor hah, because they know they can get away with it. Hell, police can legally rape women in multiple states because there’s a loophole in consent laws that make it so they can “determine” the consent of detainees. I’m pretty sure that’s how it goes. Oh, and they could legally fuck prostitutes BEFORE arresting them until laws were passed so they can’t do that before. Oh. Not to mention immunity laws which make it even HARDER for police to be charged for crimes. So, yeah. Police here fucking suck. Also yea, it’s completely illegal, but police brake the law quite literally every single day, and brainwashed americans let it slide due to misguided patriotism. God, it’s so frustrating living here.
