I admire your cruising situation with 3 people on board. It's so nice to be able to divide up work across 3 vs just a couple. You guys definitely gain some extra safety too by being a team of 3. Nice job highlighting some of the complexities of route planning, I know it can take hours to sort out a plan. It's amazing how you can have 6-8 weeks and have to "cut stuff short" because there is not enough time to get to it all. It's a good problem to have. We're in the NW of the U.S. and have similar issues with not having enough time to get to it all.
It really is crazy how much easier it is and how much changes when you have 3 people aboard instead of just a couple. We always talk about how hard it would be to cruise as a couple vs. the three of us. One additional person makes such a difference! Hats off to all of the couples who Captain their boats and to all the single handed boaters! It really is crazy how it can seem like so much time but when you get into the details it’s a rush 😳
Nice way to set the hook! (Both in anchoring, and in the title, you bad girl!). I actually loved the bits about both route planning and anchoring. More of the bits about seamanship, boating, and cruising please.
Hahah 🤷🏼♀️ I’m glad you enjoyed all of the more technical boat stuff. Riding out a 2 week wind storm seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a video detailing it!
Wow! What a lot of storms. I wish God would Bless Northern California with some of that rain. It’s already May 26, 2021 and we have only had 10 light days of rain Since 1 January we’re heading into fire season and it’s so scary we need the rain so bad. Also I was I kept thinking while watching this video was that the captain must be so pleased with his crew what an amazing team the three of you make and it’s wonderful to watch and to really look and see what kind of work goes into selling a boat and finding an Anchorage. GreatVideo! PeaceAndLove Lori
I really wish it would rain out there too! Wild fires are so sad and devastating. We are from Colorado so we know all about them, thankfully Colorado has been getting tons of rain this spring which has been great especially since we didn’t get a lot of snow this winter. We really have all learned a ton which makes the cruising so much easier since it’s all hands on deck! So glad you enjoyed the video :)
Gee we really loved this episode. Loved the way you showed the route planning, your anchoring technique and Camo in action, walking the trail etc. Just all so wonderful and a nice long vlog. Well done to all of you. 👏😎🌬🌬🌬🌬⚓🐾🌴🦘
I really enjoy your videos. Well thought out and Camo is super cool dog! One recommendation is keep under 20 minutes with theme (storm, hiking art trail, planning next voyage). Enjoy the journey!
I’m glad you enjoy them and you must have read our mind! Our new plan is to do 2 videos a week so that we can do just that! Keep them shorter and more on topic instead of trying to squeeze so much into every video. Great idea! 😉
Excellent presentation of your route planning, navigation, and anchoring. I think this is the ONLY channel out of at least 30 I follow that sat down and explained intimately how they plan their adventures and how they create a route on the chart plotter. I feel we received a behind-the-scenes of what a real captain goes through versus the polished and seamless navigation so many channels show. Well done babygirl, I am proud of you!
Wow that’s crazy that no one else has done a video like this in this way! I always have so many questions about everything so it makes me want to share and explain to everyone else who may have similar questions!!
From Prince Edward Island, Canada.........all your videos are well done along with great music! We're still restricted from travelling so enjoy the tropics for me.........
Best video you have done yet ! When you were teaching class Van Halen was playing my mind " I GOT IT BAD, SO BAD, I'M HOT FOR TEACHER" Then at around 9 mins. or so you talking about all the cool stuff in Georgetown *and beaches too". I thought you said and Beef stew ? I had to backtrack... They don't eat beef ? ✌️💜🎸
Observing your calculation book reminded me of my dad doing his scheduling by week for production purposes.Back in the day before ex-cell spread sheets.
I really like how you add in information planning your routes with the charts and anchoring!!! very good information and thanks for sharing that with us.
Amazing Anchoring for a Storm, nice to have electronics. Like the Art Trail. Sucks being stuck for 10-12 days, but atleast you got stuff done. Saw your Starfish neckless, gave my an idea for my wife's B-Day in August. Love that Camo, what a wonderful dog. Route planning if fun and adventurist, especially if you never have been to these places. Chat soon.
Such a beautiful boat you have and Camo is such a wonderful crew member. Good dog ! Loved the segment on route planning. Very very good video in its entirety. Best yet.
Thank you thank you thank you! So glad you enjoyed it, we realized that we really hadn’t discussed those things before and no better time than during a never ending storm! Lol and yes Camo is the best 💕
Thanks so much for sharing your journey! Always seems like there’s lots to do no matter if you’re cruising or at anchor. Excellent tutorials on anchoring and routing...don’t ‘cha love technology!! Looking forward to the next leg of your cruise! Be safe, be well!
I’m so glad you are enjoying joining along for the ride! And yes you are right there is always a million things to do it’s crazy!! Never a dull or down moment on a boat. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorials and yes technology makes boating so much easier. I can’t imagine doing it all on paper charts. I love the Satallite views on the charts!
OK I just found your channel a week ago,now I’m headed out to work, Man, I can’t spend 40 minutes, I’ll watch 10 minutesand the rest tonight, OK God bless love your channel
Hey Jim so glad you found our channel, welcome aboard :) sorry we made you late for work whoops! Haha our plan is to start doing shorter episodes but doing 2 a week so it may work better for your morning schedule! Have a great day
Hello from Wisconsin, we met you guys on Hoopers Bay during your time there. So glad to hear that this long lasting wind was not normal because we will be there for a month next year. Hope to see you guys again, we would love to meet Camo and your Dad. Hope you have safe sailing.
Oh hello yes yes!! Hi how are you guys doing? It was so great to meet you while we were there at that stunning beach 😍 oh goodness that wind was brutal but a month there sounds like paradise and if you are there for that long you should have plenty of beautiful days! Yes the wind this year was a hot topic among boaters, hopefully next year is calmer!!
Hello again from Japan ! Just a recommendation to use excel on fuel consumption. Used it a lot as a oil king in the Navy .looks y’all having a blast steam safe .
Thanks to your dad for the anchoring explanation! I had been wondering if there were alarms you could set. And thanks to you guys for filming and uploading all this!!! A lot of us don’t have the opportunity to do this kind of stuff, but it’s so fun to watch your adventures and see how beautiful all these places are! The other thing I’ve wondered is, was your dad in the music industry? With the boat name I figured as much. Best wishes to you guys and safe travels!!!!😁
You are very welcome I’m glad that it answered some questions that you had. It is a very unique experience there is no denying that, I’m glad that we are able to share it with everyone, makes it even more fun and it will be cool to look back on the videos years from now! And no he actually isn’t in the music industry, but the boat name would make people assume he was that’s for sure lol
We rented a beach house in George Town in mid March and had the same problem, sunny and 80's every single day but so windy that it made the water rough to swim and kayak in.........I just realized you were in George Town the exact same time as us ( 3-11 thr 3-20) so yes we were in that wind every day as well....oh I wish I would have known, would have loved to have met you guys!
That’s so funny yes we were there the exact time you were! We planned to leave a little earlier but that wind kept up there for a long time! It’s was BRUTAL and really made any water activities close to impossible. At least you were on solid ground so you didn’t also spin back and forth for 2 weeks lol!! That would have been fun to meet up, I hope you guys had a good time even with all of that wind
Thank you for explaining the route planning and daily chores you all do. To many videos show the best of boating and not what it takes to keep a large vessel ship shape. I may have missed it but did you do a video on what you all did prior to doing your epic adventure?
We try to keep it as real as possible by showing it all! The fun adventures and the boat chores and what it takes to keep us cruising. And we have not done one yet but may do a Q and A video in the near future!
It flipped and reset because we had swung over 180 degrees. When we swing that far it’s not uncommon for the anchor to reset and drag slightly as it digs in the new direction. Sometimes it doesn’t drag at all, it just pivots. Depends on the holding. The holding here wasn’t excellent and we actually had to anchor twice because our first anchor drop did it hold. So it makes sense that it drug a little when it turned
I'm just wondering if your Dad ever thought of putting a gyro stabilizer on or do the stabilizing fins do the same or would it be better to have both I've seen a couple of Nordhavns have both I think they're called sea keepers
I am not positive why he opted for the fins over the stabilizers but all of the Nordhavns that I have been on or Nordhavn owners that I have talked to have the fins. I’m pretty sure that is the standard for the nordhavns. I know a lot of the sport fishing boats have the sea keepers, I’m sure it has something to do with speed and fuel consumption as well
We have, the most memorable one was up at jewel island in Maine. It was mud on top of bedrock. We were able to set the anchor but couldn’t back down on it over about 1,000rpm because we would start to drag. We saw that the weather was supposed to be extremely calm so we decided it was okay for a few nights but definitely kept a close eye on the weather. And yes the wind is exhausting!
Camo's "adaptation" is AMAZING!... Is He a particular breed ( or just a good ole sh!t eater)?... can't believe how well He's adapted to "Your" life...Bless you ALL!
He is a rescue but we’re told he is a mix of a German short hair pointer and retriever. He adjusted sooo well it’s crazy! We are so lucky he loves the boat as much as he does
Yes you are correct, we normally like to have about 10% extra at a minimum and we have enough fuel to make it all the way. If we didn’t we would have had to fill up at a marina, there is one in Georgetown and another in the crooked islands we could have gotten fuel at
@@adventures Warm wind though. I could do with a bit of that. I'm here in Liverpool the UK, the suns out, and I've got the central heating on. Ha ha ha.
We like to carry a good amount but fuel in the Bahamas is also quite expensive and sometimes isn’t as good of quality due to low use (if it sits around for a while) that’s less of an issue in populated areas but we were worried about getting it further south so we wanted to know weather to fuel up in Georgetown or if we could make it. so if we can wait to be back in the states we will try to do that!
We have a dead cat and a very nice mic but sometimes it’s just so windy that it doesn’t even matter, it’s just wind lol. But we are always working on making it better and learning how to use it is properly :)

Hi what charting software do you use looks like you are able to easily transfer that to your autopilot 🤔
Looks like they use Timezero primarily.
We use timezero professional! And when we’re not on the monitors we’re using aqua maps on our phones
Is there much debris to worry about in Caribbean waters? I boat in the PNW and we deal with lots of debris.
Debris is not an issue in the Bahamas. Coral heads and reefs are the main issues along with shallow water over Sandy bottoms.

I am amazed that a 100 pound anchor can hold a huge boat from drifting away.
It’s actually 250 lbs but still amazing I agree!
So, I assume you have enough fuel to continue your trip? What kind of reserve do you usually figure in? About 10%, or more?
Yes you are correct, we normally like to have about 10% extra at a minimum and we have enough fuel to make it all the way. If we didn’t we would have had to fill up at a marina, there is one in Georgetown and another in the crooked islands we could have gotten fuel at
