Awesomely nice patch, Omri! I learnt so much about FM here. I love the idea of splitting the sound with LPF & HPF + panning, very original. Nice improvisation too!
Great video! I'm starting to understand FM more and more with videos like this. That's an excellent voice you've made too. Kalimba mixed with a vibraphone perhaps. Can't wait to play around with it. Cheers, Omri!
There are some nice Steinway presets for Dexed with only 6 FM operators. It sounds fantastic. I'm trying to port it to Cardinal/VCV in order to apply more reality; but so far I've failed even to copy the Dexed sound. My attempts in Vital and Dexed have been much more succesful even if some basic tools are missing there. It seems very difficult to model a piano in Cardinal/VCV. Actually I haven't seen anybody coming close to model any instrument in VCV so far.
Reverb is really fascinating. It also makes the voice in the bathroom sound so interesting that you just want to sing, even if the lyrics often don't make any sense^^.
I notice you changing cable color by clicking multiple times. With Count Modula's Cable Palette you can use hotkeys to quickly set the color. By default it's just the number keys (e.g. hit '1' to switch to the first color in your "palette"). It also allows you to lock the color so it doesn't cycle every time you connect a new cable. Super convenient when color coding like you're doing in this vid. (You may know all this already but JIC you don't...)
Yeah, I have this set with Stroke from Stoermelder. I have the 1-4 keys set to each color, but I'm too used to just clicking away so I never really use it...

Hey Omri, I'm currently struggling with an issue with FM and I'd thought you know how to deal with it, hope you read this! It has to do with phase. Whenever you add operators (with enough overlapping harmonics) together rather than FM'ing them, you never know what you're getting because the phases are independent and thus not aligned, which might change the timbre significantly. How do you typically deal with this? I can think of a few solutions, all are mega janky.
Hi! Yeah, I try not to think about that, but there are several oscillators that have a reset input you can use to reset the phase. Have a look at the ones from SurgeXT, for example.
@@OmriCohen-Music Hey! Yeah, I thought of the reset inputs, and when using them as oscillator sync, it works surprisingly better than I expected (whereas triggering every oscillator once at the same time gets me unpredictable results for some reason, maybe it has something to do with me using Cardinal rather than VCV but I can't tell for sure)... Until I have to set partials which are not octaves of the root, then it does sync things and changes the waveform.
just a BIG question, I tried recording this patch in obs studio but it does not recognize asio drivers as output audio. I found workarounds for daws but not for vcv rack. Do you use another recording software for the tutorials??
@@OmriCohen-Music oh thanks :) as I am streaming live I had to figure out how to get asio sound into obs, after hours I managed it with voicemeeter (sadly the only stable option for asio atm)
@@-________9732 Oh ok so I guess that try and work with VCV only for a bit and see if you like the experience first. Then you can decide if you want the VST or not.
That little bit of playing at the end was wonderful.
Thank you!

Hey man, have you tried out the WM-101 by Submarine? It's a free module that gives you extra cable colors and a pallete

Hi, can you please tell me where can I find information on how to use akai mpc One as a sequencer in a vcv rack?
I'm not so sure, to be honest... But if it has a Midi connection, it should work.

Yeah, I record the screen with OBS but the audio with Reaper. I then sync both in post.
