    I know Soness Stevens. She's amazing.
    Every creative that has to negotiate being paid for their Talk. Show/ Performance from organizations and hears "We don't have it in the budget to pay your fee" should watch this Ted Talk.
    Let's move out of disappointment, resentment or even lowering our fees (which causes the resentment) and tune into what we are delivering (based on our experience, talent and knowledge) and stay true to that.
    Only by honoring our expertise and being willing to walk away do we honor everyone's value...you'll see why in her talk and create a better economy.
    A rising tide raises all ships

    Discrepancy in income between the wealthy and 'have-nots' has gotten out of control in so many places. What you are saying about valuing ourselves is SO true - especially in this 'exposure' era!

      Azi Jank you ate 💯 right! And when we value ourselves, valuing others becomes part of the economic shift. We rise together

    Such a needed talk for creatives and freelancers! I especially loved the part about the budget and using “because”!

    Well done! Creative professionals need to know their value - and know when to say no, walk out. Assessing one's worth is one of the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I think everyone asking themselves this will find what they're looking for in your talk!

    Yooooo, you touched on something that I've been thinking about for years. The reason it's hard to be a freelancer is exactly that. the mentality that I'm not worth enough. Comparing myself to others. Watching this helped me grow.

    I saw this live, and have worked with Soness on other projects and this has really helped me to assess my worth objectively and present a professional rate for my services to the point where I was able to start freelancing full-time in a creative field. Perhaps the most important talk all us creatives need to hear!

    So important. Just go a job (my first more or less normal paid job). The problem are not so much about the pay, but I'm a freelancer and I pay my own taxes and all social bills so it could of course be better with a higher salary, but it's my hours that's the problem. Instead of paying me below the standard I'm hired for less hours. I hope to change that and this talk really was helpful. A great reminder not only why I should but HOW I can ask for more hours. Thanks Soness.

    • @YourSpeakingJourney
      @YourSpeakingJourney 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on your first regular paying job! Transitioning from freelance to a regular gig without regular hours even at higher wages can be frustrating. Using these same internal calibration techniques and value statements, I hope you can step in to ask for what you want. Actually, one person here let me know she did the same--she was working 6 days a week, without overtime, and way below industry standards. She sorted through her own values, asked, and got the hours she wanted at a higher rate overall! Go get it, Helle! Together we rise!

    This is really valuable for me. I’m going freelance soon and I feel this is the most challenging aspect; knowing your value. It’s tough to feel confident with a price in this competitive industry. This video makes it a LOT easier

      Alex Camp - Comedian how exciting to step into the freelance world! So brave and when you know your value, you show how you value others more and they increase your value. Competition...they exist to let you know there’s demand for what you do and you, Alex, bring so much!

      If you don't ask, you'll never know Nabil :) So, the agents I'm working with are Japanese agencies and they are respectful of the talents. Think of maximizing your ask potential by lining out specifically how you excel and how you bring them more profits, reduce costs, etc. that makes you vital to their organization. My darling did this activity in the talk and took steps so it made a difference at his workplace.
