Me:Shares a *messy* room with my sister and does all homework on the *dining room table*
I don't even have my own room 😂
I share a small room with my sister and my desk is located so that there's nearly no natural lighting :c

@Pratiksha Naik I don't actually talk about them all the time. I just watch Marvel movies a lot and like to draw. So it was quite unusual and probably the reason they gave it a second thought. Also I don't usually put up pictures of real people on my wall, that makes me uncomfortable, just pandas.

Extra tip: make sure your chair isn’t too high or you back might ache more :)
I'm, well, short - just over 5 foot. I have a little stool under my chair because it's quite high and my feet don't touch the ground. It's done wonders for how often my back hurts after sitting for a long time.

The most effective study space for me would just be an empty table with nothing around since I get distracted with pretty much everything

I love the mention of background noise. For those who can’t or don’t want to listen to music, I found a 24 hour loop of the ship idling sound from Star Trek The Next Generation here on youtube that is PERFECT white noise and just drowns out other sounds. I used it all through undergrad and my first masters, and I intend to use it for this masters as well. Happy studying, everyone! ❤️

This is the *perfect* video for the upcoming school year. Where I live, we have half in-school learning and half online learning. It will probably help me stay more productive and motivated on my online days.

I’ve just had my first (online) week of year 13 which went ok but I’m already stressed with the workload. I also have another 2 weeks of online learning and then 2 weeks of going into college on a half-time basis before hopefully going back full time from September 21st.
Such helpful advice for setting up a study space. I do have a desk in my room (I recently got a bigger one as my previous one was too small) but it’s so messy as I just pile things onto it but this video has inspired me to tidy it.

Not just useful advice for back-to-school, but also for those of us working from home during COVID-19 lockdowns - in my case, with elderly parents whose health conditions meant we’ve been shielding between lockdowns. Although now having a job I CAN do from home (after furlough & unemployment) is itself a privilege! My “desk” is the dining table - in an open-plan room - yet I found I’ve still been incorporating at least some of what Ruby talks about here (before seeing the vid), because it’s common sense. Re. music - Howard Harper-Barnes does great instrumental tracks for a sort-of classical-meets-movie-soundtrack vibe, which I’ve found ideal as a work playlist. As well as actual classical music. Anything with lyrics is too distracting, maybe that’s just me?

I think having an efficient and neat study space is very underrated. Most people think it's useless and we do it for the aesthetic but for me it makes studying way more enjoyable.
