I grew up reading stories and poems for children written by Kamla Bhasin. And when I found a chance to make my first documentary - I jumped on the opportunity as this would make me get to know her story personally.
Kamla Bhasin- is a woman who did not obey. She is known for her courage and enormous contribution to the women’s movement and women's history in India. She is an inspiration for so many women of her generation and more.. As a child, I heard stories from my mother- of their glorious women’s movement in the ’80s, women fighting for equality together. Her spirit inspires us even today! Today, so many of those women are more than 60 years old. Some are alone and some are disillusioned and tired, some are fighting for their lives, and some have left the world too early. Is it loneliness or lack of support from friends and society? - The society they wanted to change.
I want to tell more such stories of resilience and hope through my work, so we can honor these women and their legacies and pay our tribute to them for the acceptance and freedom we enjoy today.
This film - being my first documentary ever is very close to my heart.
