    The thing most people are missing about the Action Button (which could/should have been available 10 years ago!) is that it allows you to activate the camera with gloves or wet hands. There are several things that distinguish you from the massive pack of tech reviewers. First, you’re able to get through a fairly long review without annoying jump cut after jump cut. In fact, I can’t remember another TH-cam video that was anywhere nearly as smooth as yours. Secondly, EVERY SINGLE OTHER iPhone reviewer seems to need to remind us that Android had such and such a feature 2,000 years before Apple. I don’t need to know about Android or Windows …other than what I already know; neither of these platforms are for me. You’re my new go-to!

      Amen. If you like Android or Windows, great. Support them with your business. But I'll take Apple's ease of use and intuitive nature combined with what is usually either state of the art or competitive with state of the art performance across a host of categories any day. I'm not a fanboy (another lazy insult the Android Windows crowd like to lob our way), I just like cool stuff that works well. Is it perfect? Of course not. But having what would have been an advanced super computer not all that long ago that fits in your pocket and does all that it does? I mean, they're poisonously addictive. But,...I get it.

    Totally enjoyed your video. I would consider myself an amateur plus plus photographer, wanting more in my pictures but certainly not a pro.
    Traded my iPhone 12 to the 15. Couldn’t justify the cost of the Plus or pro..but the advanced features and 48 mp made my mouth water. I had an older IPad mini and my IPhone 12 to trade so my net cash outlay was only a few dollars. I was a happy camper from the moment I walked out of the store. Have the 15 about a month now, still learning but the quality of my photos have jumped. One of my rescue fur baby is truly a ham and I’ve been taking pictures of him daily. The 15 pro max, while adding the 120mm lens, it did away with the 77mm lens. While I appreciate the 120mm lens, I am curious what aperture the lens is. Are the different focal lengths on the main lens actual focal lengths or just cropped versions of the base focal length? I know you say it is a different form of processing but I am not so convinced. I have seen images from my friend's Iphone 15 max pro and the quality is degraded. I use my D850 and my Iphone for photography so I am very interested to see if these focal lengths would be full quality images. I think there are some great features but I am not sure if all the compromises are really a net gain in progress. Thanks for this video, like always you are very informative and I learn so much.

    My biggest complain about using the iphone for photography, and reviews like these is that. Okay, the camera is great, it has a ton of features that makes the phone results get closer and closer to a mirrorless. It accomplishes so much with it's computing (although these doesn't always work and you can't choose what is always done while processing the photo). All of it to get similar results to a camera.
    But the price... nobody ever mentions the price. For the price of that one cellphone I was able to afford my entire camera bag (an outdated new entry level camera [asp-c], I'm sure for a similar price I could perhaps even get a second pro camera! The 18-55 kit lens, an 55-250 tele with IS, a 100 1:1 macro lens, two 50 one is a vintage and a 35.) And if I ever feel the need to update my system I won't have to spend another grand and a half on a new everything, I can just sell the piece of kit and buy the updated one. If you want a good camera, buy a good camera. Buying a phone for its camera is ludicrous (not because the phone is a bad camera, but because it's expensive and inconvenient).
    Now, ofc there's the argument that you take your phone everywhere with you, and taking your camera everywhere is unrealistic. To which I say, GET A BAG. It'll be more comfortable than carrying everything in your pockets, and it'll be able to carry your phone, purse, books, and camera!
    I'd love to see a video where someone is given the latest and greatest iphone and someone else is given the cash to get a system that'd rival the phone.
    So, yeah, my biggest problem with phone cameras is its lack of modulation and its ludicrous price.

      To be honest, with this latest iPhone I’m not sure the argument holds up that an old aps c or m43 camera could produce better images all the time. At least not without significant work in post. In good light it feels the iPhone is indistinguishable from these cameras nowadays. And in poor lighting or conditions where you want better dynamic range the iPhone is doing so much bracketing and layering in milliseconds that it’s hard to beat it practically. Especially if you’re only going to view these on a phone.
      I still don’t like the “vibe” of taking pictures on a phone and prefer a dedicated camera but I cant lie, these phones are getting crazy for the money. Not to mention you can edit and do all sorts of things with the content on the same device.
      The log mode is especially good as the biggest issue with the iPhone is the over sharpening of video etc. which now seems to be gone with log mode. It’s really impressive.
      I don’t think I’d get one instead of a real camera but I think it’s really good bang for buck as a device. If it wasn’t an iPhone and was called a DJI pocket cam people would be raving about it I think.

    Can you capture Raw 48mp still images via the USB-C port to an SSD drive… like everyone is saying you can do with ProRes Video files? No one so far has said you can do the same with still as with video files. I know he talked about Capture One and tethering to a computer for stills, but I’ve not heard if you can do that just to an SSD.

    Love the new changes, but, with the stock app, even with ProRes, and log, you still can’t manually set settings. You can’t lock in the 180° shutter, which means the video won’t look right. It’ll end up choppy. So anyone who would use ProRes and log, would just use a third party app, which have had log profiles already for years

    Fatal flaw? On iPhone 15 Pro Max shooting in range 77mm to 119mm will now require extensive cropping of a 24mm lens. Would you do that on your digital camera? Even if it were 48mm?
    The 120mm lens should have been a FOURTH lens. We need the 77mm lens to avoid severe cropping in range 77-119mm.

    I think the 120mm lens is very very exciting. I really miss my long lenses every time I shoot with my iPhone.
    Having said that, I wish Apple can give me a true 50mm equivalent lens. I am still on iPhone 13 and I don’t know how good their image processing pipeline is to crop an image to a certain focal length. My experience with my current iPhone is that the processing is quite heavy and images tend to be over sharpened, even when I’m shooting raw. That’s why I’ve been trying to use Lightroom camera app instead of apple’s camera app.

    • @pressrepeat2000
      @pressrepeat2000 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Max now only has 12, 24 and 120mm fixed focal lengths equivalents. That’s a huge range between 24 and 120mm that’s now pure digital cropping. It would have been much more favourable to have a 50mm or as in the 14 Pro Max a 77mm lens and use crag for “zoom”, rather than the opposite.

    • @frankniethardt1813
      @frankniethardt1813 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've seen that in other videos. The iPhone 15 will default to 24MP files. That are not that much processed looking and more detailed than the 12MP files before. I think that will come to the iPhone 14 Pro models as well. Shooting 48MP ProRAW and then process ProRAW photos will be more natural, but the 24MP is a good middle ground...

      It’s a great review, and I’ll tell you I’m in the exact same place with my iPhone 11. I took the plunge and bought the 15 and I almost cried today because I returned it. I can’t get it to focus on anything closer than 10 inches away, there were quite a few software bugs. I wanted the beautiful bulky effect that the cinematic option offered - but the perspective was odd, the skin tones were horribly green, and very grainy and highly contrasted to the point where if you have any concerns about your skin - they’re gonna show up. The most important thing for me as an artist that shoots top down in a cradle, but also does a lot of zoom in into macro is that there is no micro function, unless you pay for the 15 pro or promax. so I think that a lot of the information in this review is great but it’s not really specific to the entry-level 15

    How come you did not talk about the resolutions of these cropped “extra lenses”? They are the same lenses as the 14 and they just crop the sensor. I.E. 12MP gets cropped to 4MP or whatever the factors are. Also note that if we are gonna accept the full frame focal lengths, but use the fake f-stops for the cropped sensor size that is not accurate.

    • @buxz777

    I ordered my 15 Pro and looking forward to test the camera capabilities. One thing to keep in mind or wait for tests is that the Pro Max camera system might be the less usable choice if you need 80mm more often than 120mm plus. Because the Pro Max has to digital zoom a lot for 80mm.

    • @Kularitz
      @Kularitz ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @rikimarizard

    Nothing about the annoying green flares that have plagued Apple's phones for generations? Has that been solved? Also, because those 'lenses' are essentially digitally cropped images, do they present a realistic or adapted perspective distortion? Or does the function only present a zoom-like quality? Seems like a pretty important point if they are advertising 'digital' lenses.
