Daniel: I am so glad to have had you come to my class," Blacks in film" at the University of Buffalo. I have seen all your films and am exited about your career taking off. Wish you all the best. Professor emeritus, James Pappas
@@furrymonkeything The word "Gooner" comes from the word "Gunner" and is used to describe a fan of Arsenal Football Club (you may know football as soccer). The Arsenal Football Club is based in north London (Highbury) but originated in south London, just south of the river Thames in a place called Woolwich. The latter was the home of the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, an armoury and proof house for guns going back to the 17th Century - with roots in Tudor times. The football club drew its players from the local gun works at the Arsenal, hence the name. The team moved to north London in 1913 and became close neighbours with its current arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur F.C. It was around 1913 when a north London Club, Millwall, moved to south London to a place called New Cross. The London football clubs drew their players from the locality, often from local factories, unlike present times when Premier League clubs pay £80 million or so, a time, for players from places sometimes thousands of miles away from the working-class districts where the clubs originated. I know that David won't mention the Spurs word, unless forced to, as he is a very committed "Gooner" but, as a QPR supporter, I won't hold that against him.
Thank you Laura, but I'm not a yank lol. I'm a londoner, now living in Kent. So know about "gunner🔫not "gooner " .😀. Nice bit of history. ❤ qpr 🙄ok. 😃. I don't follow footie but the family are spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea supporters. Xx
