I got to say, your really great! Not so stressful to watch. My favorite groomer needs to check out your channel. And how you handle the animals. You are very calm demeanor and set a good tone and atmosphere for the dog. You care about how the animal feels. I appreciate your approach.
Jo Howard, i couldnt agree more, My fav groomer is very rough with the dogs, doznt support underneath wen lifting their legs and doznt seem to soothe them she is throwing them about.. I wouldnt take my dog to her...
This is the most helpful video I've seen. You're very detailed and the up close shot made it easier to understand as you're trying to explain what you're doing. Every time I bring my dog to a groomer to trim his nails, I emphasized the nail that's always been an issue, when it grows, it curves and goes to his pad and they still wouldn't trim more, and my dog is uncomfortable. Thank you so much for the video!
If you accidentally get into the vein and the nail starts bleeding and you done have bleed stop or styptic powder, just put some flour in a ziploc bag, put the entire foot inside the bag and hold for a few mins. The flour will clot the blood . This man is super talented and patient with the dogs. Im impressed. 🐾❤️
You are soooo compassionate and the love you have for what you do really shows. I wish I could find a groomer like you for my toy poodle, Sasse Girl. ♥️
You are definitely a professional. Because you gl have to be gentle and fast at the same point.. I learned that I was holding the nail clippers wrong 😣. Thank you 🙏🏻🙌🏻
The look of this dog :) - like: I am gonna bite you if you touch my nails.....mine looks like= please do not do that.....getting all sad eyes and then start pulling the paw back, sometimes also starts "crying" noise though nothing happens....I sooth her with words of appreciation, goodies, telling her shes gonna get a big treat afterwards...."good girl" her 1000 times....
I’ve been watching a lot of dog grooming videos. Trying to become more proficient in grooming our two Yorkies. Your videos are very detailed and you explain exactly what you’re doing and why. I’ll have to look for one that trims a Yorkies head. I am problems with trimming it nicely. I also like the way you talk to the dogs, not many groomers talk to the dogs. Some of them are even quite mean!
Tovah..Thank You so much for your kind comment..We will try to put out another yorkie video,as soon as we can,as they are such a sweet, popular breed..Thank You so much for watching..
i love how you talk to the dogs....my teen daughter wants to be a veterinarian shes very good with dogs...shes the one who knows how to keep our dog gracie calm...she bathes her very good and even brushes gracies teeth she even checks over her every so often to make sure she has no injuries such an bites cuts or odd rashes lol...only thing is the nail cutting, she rather leave it to the professionals...im trying to learn myself because the last time i took my dog to a groomer they did not treat her well :( so she gets bad anxiety when i take her to her vet appts now thinking im going to drop her off again...shes a sweetheart and not aggressive at all...shes a rescue dog who almost died at 4months old in a shelter shes 3 now... so if she feels unsafe or scared she will whine, not bark but whine which is so heart breaking to hear...lov ur videos i sub. and so did my daughter :)
Hey kris r,sorry about the late response..That is great news, sounds like your daughter,is going to do it.Best of luck to her,and your pup.I agree,if you are not comfortable doing the nails, let your vet,or your groomer do it..I have been doing it for 33 yrs,and still get nervous at times. Its not an easy thing, and our main concern is always not to hurt the dog,or stress them to much..Good luck with Gracie, and keep in touch with us..Thank You so much for your kind comment, and for watching us..Oh,about the clippers, you can,but they will only probably be able to cut the tips because the opening is small..
I've watched several of your videos, Rudy -- & I admire how thoroughly you have considered the dog's psychological as well as physical comfort. Using an Elizabethan collar to reduce the dog's stress is so insightful! Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Jacqueline,Thank You so much for your kind words,it means so much to us..We really appreciate you staying with us,and watching our videos..Im so glad they relax you..I fall asleep watching You Tube videos every night..lol..Thank You so much!!!
Fantastic job. I've taken my dogs to at least five places and none of them have been nearly effective with my Rottweiler because she has real anxiety with getting her nails done and the black nails you cannot really able to see the vein so people are generally over cautious don't really cut the nails and they feel like they've done a lot because she's you know tough to work with I wish we had somebody like this kat in Colorado
Aww, you were so kind and attentive with this dog during what can be a stressful situation for both of you! Your personality is equally as valuable as your medical skills! I don’t have a dog but I have cats (I’m about to tackle a nail trimming in a few minutes & i’m going to use an Elizabethan collar as well - even though my kitty is a precious little sweetheart). I absolutely LOVED this video! 😊 Thank you so much for sharing this video & please thank your parents for raising such a wonderful & kind human being!) 🐾❤️🐾

Thank you so much for this video! Yours are the best nails and pads cleanup videos I have seen to-date ... and I've been searching for some time. You have given me the confidence to do my own dog's nails. I've been getting them done by a vet tech or groomer because I have been afraid to do it wrong and hurt him.
Thank You so much jecriggs, for your kind comments. We are so glad,we can help ..Good Luck to you,and your dog..Keep in touch, let us know if you have any questions,or suggestions..Thank You for watching us..
Jaye I’m paranoid to cut my boys nails too. They are black which makes it more difficult. There is a nail clipper called Zen clippers. I Have found them very easy to use. $20
Thank You kay..We try very hard to be patient with all of our pups, some of them are just scarred, and need some reassurance..There much like we are in a lot of ways..lol..Thank You for watching us..
Thanks so much for this! My pug's nails grow right up against her paw pads and I never knew the right way to trim them. I don't mean they grow so long that they hit her pads. It's just the natural curve of her nails is exactly the shape of her toes so I can't get any type of nail trimmer underneath.
Good job! You are definitely a pro with those scissors. Can’t believe how fast and accurate you are. I would be nervous to snip off a toe or something with cutting so fast! I was holding my breath watching that part, lol
Game Over..Thank You for your kind comment..Been grooming so long, that when i hold scissors, they just feel like a part of my hand..lol..Even with that I try very hard to be careful, not to accidentally nick,or cut a dog..Thanks again for watching..
I stress if I'm not watching the needle the whole time I'm getting my blood drawn or getting a vaccine. I need to mentally prep for it so I need to know when it's going in.
I love your work so much!you did a awesome job with this dog. Also I wanted to ask what to do if you’re dogs nail has been covered in mats which is preventing from the dogs nail to grow even more without it hurting and when you try to trim it with a blade how would you do that without hurting the dog itself(it is a small dog).
Thank you so much for your kind comment,we love you too..Without actually seeing the situation, it would be hard for me to describe what you could do, but it sounds like you may have to clear out the matting with clipper, to somehow free up,and expose the nail..I hope that will help..
Good job! Cocker spaniel! Groomers nightmare!!i do a few really good ones but most are not handled much in the grooming dept. when they're young so they really become hard to groom! Lucky owners who have good groomers to do their cockers...
Hello, i just found your channel my dog has hyperkeratosis on her paws they offered me bio balm for her paws ive seen some vets but they only offer me balms, i just started with this product, will it recover her paws as it should be? Or any advice you can give me im from mexico my baby girl is 9 months old
In a case of long quicks ,you may only be able to tip,or take little off.You might be able to get them a little further back,by using a grinder..Thank You so much for watching us..
Hey Angela, that is sometimes the case..If so,you can really only tip the nail,so not to hurt the dog..Grinding the nail, may be a little more effective, but still to be careful, not to grind to far...
@@nefelibata4190 The quick / vein will recede if the nail is kept short. Sometimes the nail is SO overgrown that you cannot avoid cutting the quick. Styptic powder will stop the bleeding within a few minutes.
I just took my dogs (3) to the groomer and she clipped the nails (I watched her). I am doing the Paragon distance online dog grooming program and just started and I'm at the nail trimming part. I have to trim nails on a dog and take before and after pictures and send in. I looked at my Shih-tzu's nails and was shocked at how long and curved under they were for just being cut three weeks ago. The groomer must be just tipping the nails instead of actually looking at the quick and going as far as she could. Now I feel bad that my dog's nails are long and starting to curl and I never noticed. I thought since she was getting groomed every 8-10 weeks that her nails were getting trimmed properly. I also have a Yorkie that is incessantly chewing her toenails and pulling them with her teeth. I thought it was a habit something like humans have when they bite their nails. Live and learn. Thanks for this video. I hope I can be as good a groomer as you are :)
Best overgrown clipping video ive seen!! Thank you!! Are you able to take off that much for any dog with overgrown nails? My 15yr old weenie/beagles nails are so long but was told by groomer i need to only take off the tiniest sliver in order for his cuticles to move back. His nails are white/clear but im just so worried about taking off too much. Is it genetics that cause some dogs cuticle to also grow the length of nail?
Hey Jme J..Thank You,for your kind comment..We really try to specify, that all dogs are very different,in the aspect of nail clipping. Some veins grow out more than others, regardless of breed, but never the less, the key is to find out where that vein is,and only clip just in front of it,so not to hurt,or make them bleed..If you are unsure,it might be best,to take your groomers advice, and just tip them. Its better to clip a little off, than none at all..Once you gain there trust, you can possibly try to go a little further..
Grooming By Rudy I couldn’t clip my Poodles more than the tip at first. Almost fell over when I saw how much the groomer took off! Now I’m good with clipping a bit more.
I'm having that problem, my dog isn't very cooperative when it comes to clipping nails, it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get them all clipped. Her dewclaw nail has grown into the pad on her hind left leg and now there is a huge bloodstain on my really nice expensive bedding. I feel awful
Im so so sorry..Not uncommon,a lot of dogs just hate there nails done...Dont feel bad..Do you have quick stop,or septic stick on the ready, just in case for next time..You can stop the bleeding..
Recently found this channel and loving it so far! But the backround music is to loud in my opinion🙈 do you even need backround music when you are talking? Just some friendly feedback!
When my dogs nails become over grown and I begin to trim them, they bleed, I don’t know how he was able to cut them that far down with no veins. The vein grow out with the dogs nails. So what am I doing incorrectly
Excellent Educational as 3 STD Poodles & let nails get to long. I've been hospitalized from infection where nails have ripped legs open. Told now quick grows long with nails. Barely clip, no cone, but more in quick than not. Had dog hospital cut nails of oldest, Not saying a trim, but sedated and said all cut. Very little difference! I'm ready to cry as how do I fix this ? Thought $300 nail cut would cut back far & give us chance to keep nails short,? Did I miscommunication cut nails back ?when vets & techs could simply look & see they needed extreme help. How do I help my dogs as not walking as should. And help myself from serious cuts?its to point I'm not playing with them as much as scared another ER visit to stitch me up very possible. They are 7,8,9 years old. I need help. Am I not using proper terminology what I need done?
Is there a groomer in your area?? Groomers usually do a much better job at clipping nails, than vets do,because we do them much more, and are more practiced..Can you have a groomer take a look at them for you?
You are awesome, with the dog, poor thing, I don't understand why people let the dogs nail growth so big..it is painful for them to walk, it is the same thing with humans..we don't walk around with giants claws...Bad owners😥😥
My dog dislikes his feet touched too, I even started on him as a ''baby'' when I got him at 8 weeks, touching his feet, rubbing them, separating the toes, etc and he's never liked it. Does make it harder to trim nails that is for sure, but we get it done, He doesn't get angry over it, just always pulls away , he also has always hated his face touched, I can pet his face and head all I want , give him kisses all I want, but If I'm trying to wipe something off say an eye booger for an example he won't hold his head still for nothing, same in the bath when I go to use a wash rag on his face and chin , but he knows this ole' mamma rules my roost not him, so even though he hates it being done, and lets me know by not holding still what so ever, it gets done nonetheless, then he has to hear the lecture from me of "if you'd just hold still, it would get done a whole lot faster", lol . And thankfully he is short haired so I don't have to worry about fur getting matted in his paws :)
I don't understand how people can let their dogs get to this stage. Last time we took ours to the vet, we saw a dog there with nails that were so long, they literally got tangled into each other. The owners acted like they loved the dog, and I just don't get it. You shouldn't need someone to tell you what's obviously uncomfortable for your dog. Not letting the pads matt, and keeping the nails in reasonable length, should be common sense. Do these people just never look at their dogs, or how do they manage not to notice?
Glad you asked! I was "these people". It happened very easily. I didnt groom him out of fear. Hes tiny. He has always gone to a dog salon . I moved to another city and couldn't find a groomer I trusted with him and did not want him sedated( he squirms/plays). Hes so small it's easy to cut his skin and I did once unfortunately. I never found anyone that I trusted to be as compassionate and ended up buying a kit and learning through trial and error. Im not saying you're wrong, but consider instead of judging us or being so disgruntled, just give us advice.
Where are you located? I would trust you to do it correctly and I would clear out of the room if you wish. I love my vet but nail work is so frightening for my SWEET SWEET INNOCENT dog. Can you suggest a groomer or vet in Columbus, Ohio? My dog will bite if I try to do her nails. IT TOOK THREE PEOPLE TO HOLD HER LAST TIME AT THE VETS. SHE GOES INSANE. By The Way: Comments from the Holier Than Thou crowd will not be appreciated and will be met with graphically obscene responses regarding your lineage, your looks, your kids’ looks and your intelligence - that WILL cut YOU to the quick. So eff off, I need help.
I enjoy your video's but I gotta ask who did the rest of the grooming on that dog? Wow the fur was hacked off it looked really bad. I'm sure there must be an explanation.
The dog was completely matted, and had to be shaved..You can see that based on how bad his nails and pads were..The explanation is get the dog in every 4 to 6 weeks for grooming,to avoid a hacking..Thanks for watching
His paws must feel so much better!
I am beyond impressed with how gentle and efficient you are

Soap works well also. Get a bar of soap and wet it and scrape the nail against the bar. It seals it.
Corn starch also works really well to stop the bleeding.

@@nefelibata4190 The quick / vein will recede if the nail is kept short. Sometimes the nail is SO overgrown that you cannot avoid cutting the quick. Styptic powder will stop the bleeding within a few minutes.
Standup Broad Is it okay to use corn starch in place of it if you don’t have styptic powder on hand?
My dog has long nails too...she was rescued from a dog hoarder and anything I do is traumatic for her. Makes me feel terrible:'(
like Edward scissor hands! so fast
Lmao!!! Thank you

What is a do claw?
It's the claw, that is up the paw,on the side, almost like a thumb..It doesn't touch the ground, like the other claws..ty so much for watching us..
My Moms Yorkie Poo has black nails and they are too long, how can I trim substantially if I can’t see the vein?
Check out our..How to clip black nails video...tip them little by little..
Any tips for black nails on a Pomeranian? Im afraid I'll cut them too short.
Check out our..How to clip black nails video..It might help you out..
This is big dog so you can put clip under his nail. I have chihuahua and i do not know how to clip it because is curly.
He uses jui jitsu level body feel and control without the dog even noticing.
Lmao!!!! This is very funny!!
Recently found this channel and loving it so far! But the backround music is to loud in my opinion🙈 do you even need backround music when you are talking? Just some friendly feedback!
Lol..Thank You..We changed our format, and no longer use music when talking..We so appreciate you input...
When my dogs nails become over grown and I begin to trim them, they bleed, I don’t know how he was able to cut them that far down with no veins. The vein grow out with the dogs nails. So what am I doing incorrectly
Please show it to the vet
Would be able to make a video about how to get rid of fleas on a short haired chihuahua. And to give here a proper bath
Yes..We will see what dogs we have coming up..Thank you
How about cat claw trimming?
My dogs nail stabbed into his pad what to I do
Cut the nail, and pull the half that is in the pad out, then disinfect the pad..
You are awesome, with the dog, poor thing, I don't understand why people let the dogs nail growth so big..it is painful for them to walk, it is the same thing with humans..we don't walk around with giants claws...Bad owners😥😥
I always wonder if they are seniors or something that dont take the dogs out of the house much.

Why does my dog want to eat her nails after over clipped them and there on the floor?
They probably smell good to them? A lot of dogs lick at the nail dust in air when I grind their nails
@@SomeChickWifAHat oh that's funny.
My dog HATES anyone even touching her paws. Wish I could trim her nails. I might see if I can find one of those collars.
It drives me crazy seeing nails like that. Im after my dogs on a regular basis. Any dog that comes to stay at my house gets a groom from me.
@@missmartin85 Thanks for the explanation. Glad you found a solution.
That's so sad .
I would have no face left if i tried that with my dog :(
Who is the dog owner! That is ridiculous. Great job Rudy
What an irresponsible owner this poor boy has 😥
👀
Theis why I will never have a border collie.
woooooow, please manage your doggos better ppl
dogggos~~~
This proberly would never happen if you actually take your dog for a walk beyond me
I enjoy your video's but I gotta ask who did the rest of the grooming on that dog? Wow the fur was hacked off it looked really bad. I'm sure there must be an explanation.
The dog was completely matted, and had to be shaved..You can see that based on how bad his nails and pads were..The explanation is get the dog in every 4 to 6 weeks for grooming,to avoid a hacking..Thanks for watching
Jeez - It didn’t look that bad.
Wow I thought I let my dogs nails grow but they aren’t that grown . That’s just terrible
That is so awful. So wrong. Doesn’t take much to routinely groom feet. If not take to someone for help. Poor puppy 🐶
It sucks that all the good animal groomers live in America.
Lol...annkus3...I think there are some amazing groomers around the world ..Where are you??
