Meindl Vakuum GTX Boot - I bought a pair of from Gooutdoors in the UK early 2019 to replace a pair of Scarpas and Lowa boots that Id had for over ten years. The main future that attracted me apart from the over comfort and support was the rubber rand which gives added protection to the leather uppers. Sadly within 18 months of owning the boots the rubber rand started to come away from the leather and I had to send the boots back for repair, not what I expected of a pair of boots that get only occasion use and cost a significant amount of money at the time of purchase.
Hi thank you I have still got them and they are going strong such a great boot. I bought one size larger than my trainer size. The feet swell after hiking so best to have some room.
Did you find the laces too short? I have to replace the laces in most Meindl boots I get with laces 20cm longer. They always seem to be so short that I'd have to tie them very tight to be able to knot the ends. Odd because I don't have this problem with Scarpa.
Hi thank you i have used these on a 50 mile hike with no issues they are very comfy but a little heavy for extrme long distances but if the surfsce is rocky and conditions hard then these boots are amazing. I use something a little lighter for easier long distances. I have used these to hike to the summit of killimanjaro and they were amazing my meet loved me. I came back I cleaned them and waxed them I find they look new.
@@outdoortechtrekguy1029 thanks because I bought the Himalaya MFS and they are overkill and dunno what to do with them, am looking to buy more suitable boots for long hikes 40-60 miles and also one week hikes
Hi I personally always get 1 size bigger in boots I am usually a UK 7 for trainers but these are 8. The feet swell on bug hikes and when you carrying load.
@@outdoortechtrekguy1029 Finally they arrived! I have up front 1.6 cm available from the big toe. Is it ok or too big? I worry if I go half size smaller when I go down to elevation if my toes will hit the boot. Now this is not happening. Should I keep these 8.5 UK?
Hi. First of all, a very helpful review. You said, you used a lot different boot before. Did you use Solomons Quest 4D2 GTX? I hesitate between Quests and those Vacuums. Meindls seems like top quality boots for life but damn heavy. Quests, on the other hands are much lighter but read somewhere, not as good traction on wet surface (it said on wet rock particular). Any thoughts? I usually do outdoor summer, early autumn, Lake Distrct mainly. Cheers.
ImNotEvenaNicePerson The boots you mention are completely different fits and you are unlikely to get on well with both. I've had both and they are remarkably different fits and designed for completely different shapes of feet. The 4d 2's are very wide at the front with a narrow mid section and high arch support whereas the meindls are overall for a more narrow foot at the front and also a flatter foots with less arch support. I'd thoroughly recommend trying them on first. I bought the 4d 2's and could barely walk 2 miles as my feet were so sore due to the arch support and wide front however the fit of meindl is perfect. Hope that helps. Don't make the mistake I did and buy them without trying them.
Salomons are Chinese trash. Let's just be real. You've got to be living quite gently to not have torn a pair of Salomons to shreds in very short order. Salomons are for shills and hipsters who like to pull their EVs over at scenic overlooks and take selfies for Amazon and FaceInstaTok.
Hi mate yes mine are going strong they have been to kilimanjaro and totally thrashed. I clean them with wax and take good care. I know go outdoors in the uk price march any uk retailer and adgust by a further 10 percent. A quality boot I plan to take them to Russia when I I hopefully summit Elbrus.
Hi Paul yes they still in very good condition I took them Killimanjaro where they got a battering on the steep incline coming down. I washed them when we got back and hand waxed they good as new.
JungleApe Hi sorry for late reply I got mine from Go Outdoors in the UK. Go Outdoors have excellent customer service and they price match all genuine UK retailers who are vat registered
Hi yes the can take a crampon , grade B, flexible crampons the sole is stiff enough. I know meindl do not officially rate them for crampons but the sole is the grip. I would not use them for multiple day or long distance crampon use.
I have the Meindl Vakuum Ultra, which are less heavy duty but still very capable. I love them, so comfortable. Is that Vibration sole on your GTX version replaceable?

Great review mate! Thanks 👍
How about the sizing? Did you buy the same size boot as your shoe size?

Helli,
Did you compare with Meindl Buthan? Are Buthan heavier or lighter?.
How do you find stiffiness of sole for flat easy trip?
I wear UK 8 in everything expect NIKE UK 9. Which size should I get? True to size or not?

Hello, are these still going strong? Are yours the nubuck ones? They have definitely gone up in price as I can’t find them for much less than £220.
