Thank you for giving this song a listen (and glad you’re back and well, of course). It’s worth looking up the various live versions of the song, each a little different. Such as an audience surprise in the la Cigale performance. The studio version outro is in my top ten. The way she sings “there are echoes lost in the garden… is anybody listening” with the unique Susanne Sundfør vibrato/tone never ceases to give me goosebumps. As I think I said in the first few reactions’ comments, so many places to go next. Songs like The Silicone Veil have even deeper lyrics (and aren’t quite as sad), the songs on the Music For People in Trouble album are more raw, often folksy and near-acoustic with more chest voice. And I would absolutely recommend her “pop” opus Ten Love Songs (with several unconventional songs, one is used in the Self Portrait documentary). A full album review would be neat as there are so many connections and songs transitioning from one to the next. And not a lot of live performances or videos, anyway. She put her all in that album, too much… “The punishing workload for her brilliant new album, along with its exploration of extreme love and violent hatred, left the baroque synthpop star physically and mentally ill.”
Susanne Sundfør is my favorite singer for the last three years, right from the moment I heard her songs. My sympathy began with the unpretentious Röyksopp - Never Ever ft. Susanne. I then Googled the vocalist of this song and plunged into a new world. Now for me her songs are the pinnacle of musical art. They penetrate to the depths of the soul.
Same happened to me after I saw 'Oblivion' and fell in love with the Voice of the main theme. I love her music since 8-9(?) years now. I also was lucky to see her here in Berlin (germany). She is sooo amazing and she always gets me with her voice.
Susanne Sunførs unpredictable songwriting always makes her music very interessting, for sure. Her voice is crystal clear and diverse. You actually LISTEN to her music. And her lyrics have depths as well. And not to mention that she plays most instruments, write, compose, arrange and produce herself, quiet uniq. A big fan, indeed :)
aah. one of my favorites of Susanne. I love her, and i love your reaction. The brothel IS so sad and so beautiful and so magical and tragic and devestating and comforting at once. Full of emotions. She describe the emptiness in humanity in such a rich way... love
Susanne's vocals and lyrics frequently give me goosebumps - of the very best kind! Such a talented artist, and I would heavily advise checking out the song "The Silicone Veil", because it is quite the journey in itself. And her album Ten Love Songs is fantastic from start to finish, too.
Always love seeing Susanne Sundfør videos - I think she is still flying under the radar of many. As already mentioned, check out the live version of it, too, it's even better live. All her albums are fantastic, sadly there aren't many high quality live performances online. I still have live version of of "It's all gone Tomorrow" downloaded, which was performed in a cathedral - unfortunately audio only and it doesn't seem to be available online anymore. Strongly recommend checking out the album version, it's a ride. "Memorial" and "Mountaineers" are such interesting songs, aswell.
Happy to have found the channel. Many of these artists don’t seem to be as appreciated as one might think given their *gorgeous* music. So I was drawn in by some who actually covers people like Susanne, and Sissel Kyrkjebø! Thanks for these analyses.
Thanks! 💗 Love Susanne’s songs, songwriting, her arrangements. They often take their time, which used to happen more often in music - even a minute intro creating an atmosphere before songs started ‘properly’.
words can not express how much i love this woman and her music. my fav version of this song is live at cigalle. also "turkish delight" from the same concert. it gives me chills in regions not supposed for it. and please more anna von hausswolff!
Another great reaction! As soon as she starts singing, I can't help but get a lump in my throat. I never need to know what she's singing about, just the tone and delicacy of her voice does it. Utterly beautiful ❤️
Thanks for this, Adam! Susanne Sundfør is just so great! 🇳🇴💗I love her music, it touches my heart and my soul like nothing else ever has! 😍🥰 My favourite song at the moment is „Mountaineers“, the live version from „Live from the Barbican“. She takes that song to whole new level in this performance, her vocals and the atmosphere are absolutely mindblowing! Susanne, if you ever read this, I love your music, please come back soon!!!
This song is even more powerful live. The 'Live At Parkteatret' is my favourite version, her voice is absolutely bone chilling on that one. My top recommendation is 'Memorial'. IMO that song is her magnum opus; a 10 minute masterpiece that really shows her songwriting capabilities. Other fantastic songs and performances: - The Silicone Veil (Live Skavlan 2012) - No One Believes In Love Anymore - Rome (Live At Parkteatret) - The Amorous Humphrey Plugg (live on BBC proms) - Mountaineers (featuring John Grant) - The Sound of War (Live at Spellemann) - Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør - Ice Machine (Depeche Mode cover) Live on Lydverket - M83 & Susanne Sundfør - Oblivion - Slowly - When - Silencer - The Dance - Röyksopp & Susanne Sundfør - Never Ever
Thank you, love this one! Hope you’ll check out more songs, as others have mentioned she’s got a stellar, varied discography. And if you ever get a chance to see her live.. “Live in London: One of the most obvious standout aspects of a stripped-back Sundfør set is her voice. It is truly incredible, sporting a range of which most singers can only dream; delivered with complete effortlessness. When she performs her electronic material in full force, the almost uncanny perfection of her voice is difficult to divorce from the wider layers of synthetic sound. Tonight, the acoustic instruments and sparse arrangements offer a contrast which highlights how astonishing her voice really is. She can move from the barest whisper to the most overpowering, soaring majesty in the same breath, with the tone and sustain of her voice so perfect as to genuinely seem inhuman at times. It would sound almost pre-programmed if it weren’t so emotive.”
Susanne is such a great artist. Musically and lyrically her songs are amazing. I read people asking you to react to Memorial. I agree: that is a masterpiece. But also Mountaineers, The Sound of War and No one believes in love anymore deserve a listen.
Glad you’re back, and nice reaction.😊 The Brothel was actually the first song I heard from Susanne, and I loved it immediately 😍😍 Could you please react to Ina Wroldsen, a Norwegian singer/songwriter? She has a lot of songs, and she has written a lot of songs to other artists like: Shakira: “Empire” Calvin Harris: “ How deep is your love” she’s the vocalist Demi Lovato: “Lionheart” Britney Spears: “He about to loose me” Shontelle: “Impossible” and many more Some of her own songs that I love are: “Lay it on me” live acoustic version About the song: - I actually wrote it to my mother-in-law. I wanted to make a song for her that said "now you can feel good", she says and adds: - It's about losing a person. Man is still there, but the person is not the same. You want things to go back to the way they were, but at the same time you are happy that the person is still there. th-cam.com/video/vhj69FmMr24/w-d-xo.html “St Peter” live This is based on a true story from when Ina was in Africa th-cam.com/video/8ok4LIIfPdA/w-d-xo.html “Favela” official video This is based on when she was in Brazil and saw the Favelas and how the people lived there th-cam.com/video/DRy7CgWHLHU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for that, a new one on me too. Not heard much of her before but there are only so many free hours in a day. I will look out for more. Meanwhile roll on the 28th!
I like your Aurora Vinyl collection ~. I found Susanne due to someone's comment on Aurora's subreddit.. and well I can't stop listening to Susanne. I think she's a genius. Ten Love Songs is absolutely brilliant. You need to give it a listen. The production is off the charts perfect. I collect music and I've never heard anything so perfect. I keep having to go back and listen to it its so good. I think sometimes her voice is similar to Aurora... but like if Aurora went and had singing lessons somewhere or more vocal control. There are just certain notes they have the same timbre. But overall I think Susanne > Aurora...I'd love to hear them do something together though.
Thank you for reacting to this song. It's a stunning beautiful song. When i was watching you react to Susanne, i thought i would really like to see you react to the French singer Pomme and her song 'A perte de vue' (PommeMusic). I was searching for the exact title of the song when i came upon a collaboration of Aurora and Pomme. That was like a dream coming true 🙂
The Brothel has been a favorite for years - The Silicone Veil must be the next i guess , it kind of connects to the story in the Brothel . th-cam.com/video/AZ8NwIlkMuU/w-d-xo.html -to me Susanne is one of the most important artist. And her wordless vocalizing in Nils Petter Molværs - Mercury Heart is almost painfully beautiful - And why not a consert version of mountaineers th-cam.com/video/e97RIDmWdT0/w-d-xo.html , this one from Grieghallen is pure magic - almost violent in its beauty - and to this live ? Insane
Hey Adam....We in Norway are so lucky to have good artists😊. Have you heard of another one, Bertine Zetlitz. She has been quite amazing, Song like for example .... Girl like you .... Fake your Beauty .... Hope you take a look at her.😊🖐👍
Her whole album, Ten Love Songs is one epic tour de force, but I think you might not like that album, considering you have stated you like acoustic songs better. Still, worth mentioning :) Love your reactions as always. Wholesome, honest and emotional in the best way.
Not always acoustic, I have to admit! I just mean comparatively to their original form, I can really dig an acoustic version. And thanks for your kind words!
