  • The international “4 per 1000” Initiative: Soils for Food Security and Climate, invites all stakeholders worldwide to implement practical actions to achieve soil carbon storage through agriculture and forestry, and to share agro-ecological practices (conservation agriculture, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, landscape management, etc) to combat climate change and end hunger, within 2050.
The mission of the “4 per 1000” Initiative for 2030, developed in the strategic plan, is to provide a supportive framework and action plan on soil health and soil carbon, through an enhanced collaboration between stakeholders of the "Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU)" sector, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Launched by France in 2015 during the UNFCCC COP 21, the “4 per 1000” Initiative is gathering almost 500 partners and members (July, 2020) and has just released its Strategic Plan [2020-2050].
