      I miss my grandmother so much, too. I miss _all_ of my grandparents, but I knew my maternal grandmother the best. She _long_ outlived my other grands. We even lived together for a few months before I moved out-of-state with my now-husband. It definitely made us become closer. I'm very grateful to have had that wonderful time together with her.

    • @caramelsimon7472
      @caramelsimon7472 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Same! I had a really tight connection with my maternal grandma. She always say that I'm her fave because I'm her first grandchild. It's been 10 years since she left us, and she's like Grandma OK, she's happy with food, very open minded and kind. It's sad that before she passed away, she was kind of dealing with alzheimer's. She forgot me and my name while still remembering others.

    I've been attempting to cook a lot more Korean dishes lately (though admittedly it is hard to get ingredients where I am in the UK) but I'll be sure to give Kuksu a try if I can! So far I've made Haemul-Pajeon, Galbi, Gimbap, Hobakjuk (which I'm hoping to make when pumpkins start selling for halloween lol, but as a comfort food or food when you're feeling unwell it works wonders!), Beef Bulgogi, Hwachae and Hotteok. All have been fairly delicious, though probably not as authentic as they could be. Anyhow, we certainly need to see more Korean cooking courtesy of Grandma OK!

    I'm sitting here crying because your grandma reminds me of my grandma. Whenever I visited her, she never let me leave without a meal. It was always so great to watch her cook, especially when she made her favorite dishes and taught me so many things. I miss her every day, she was my rock and sometimes it is hard for me to realize that she is gone. But seeing your grandma somehow gives me strength and makes me happy! I would love to hug her! 🙏❤

      It's all good - it was a Salonpas. It's a medicinal patch you put on sore/achey muscles and such. I use them all the time - never had to, but then I hit my 40s, and my body decided it was time to remind me I am no longer in my 20s. There are days when my back is just a patchwork of those patches. Good for when I'm trying to exercise and my knees/elbows are like "bitch, you are out of shape".

    the fact it’s been over a day since uploaded and grandma ok has 0 dislikes i love that! she reminds me of my korean grandmother we also called her grandma ok (using korean for grandmother ofc) our family name is Yang so her real name was Yang Ok Yon & i miss her sooo much she reminds me of your grandmother so much and it’s so comforting watching these videos because our relationship was like yours is with your grandma ok. i lost my grandma ok to her fight against cancer after she had it off and on for 6 years living way past the 3 months her original diagnosis/doctor allowed / seemed to be at the time. i normally try not to think much of the last days as she was not well and not herself at all she was normally bright & bubbly & super funny & always made sure we ate 2 or 3 plates of food everytime we went to her house plus cutting some apples and oranges for us lol. it’s crazy to think that my grandma ok has been gone for 13 years now, i’m 27 with my own kids & now that i finally had my daughter (after only having tried for one & having complications but i had my son first) i named my daughter after my grandma, & naeun is my daughters korean name and her english middle name is exactly my grandmas name.
    sorry for the long comment zo, but i’m crying like a child writing this after watching ur video & reminiscing on times with my grandma ok, and i miss her dearly. i’m going back home to South Korea in 2 months for 6 months and visiting my family & going to my grandmas village & to where we spread her ashes & im going to make this same dish, pack it with a picnic & go and have lunch & talk with my grandma ok & tell her about your grandma ok & about how i have another grandma named ok that i think mine lives vicariously through.
    love your channel & content, with yumi ofc but especially grandma ok’s content. i get so warm inside watching her it’s such a great feeling and makes my sad days or days i’m upset better again!
    *a new game: take a shot for everytime i say grandma ok in this comment lol i’m sorry y’all but it really blew tf outta my mind that we call this angel of a woman grandma ok while i’m not sure her real name i’m sure it’s got ok in it & my grandmother whom was full korean born and raised for over 40 yrs before coming to america, name is Yang Ok Yon. & she didn’t bother to get an english name she stayed with her korean name, because she didn’t want to lose who she was and to stand tall as she was so proud to be korean, as am i (my mom had me in korea i was born early she went with my grandma on a trip back to where my mom was raised and then my whole life i’ve been off and on living in america & south korea. i’m half korean my mom is full korean & my dad is black & puerto rican, so i use korean more than english as my family is korean so i’m sorry if my grammar is messed up it’s been awhile since i wrote a full english sentence let alone chapter book of a comment.

    Dashima is dried kelp. While the dried fish/shrimp adds a bit of funk and nuttiness (and some slight fishiness), the kelp adds deep rich flavor. It is one of the primary sources of "umami" flavoring - which is a deep savory flavorful taste. It also adds a bit of saltiness, which is why you flavor with soy sauce at the end, to your own personal taste preference. I love seeing Grandma OK cooking - definitely a series I'd enjoy watching - she reminds me of my own grandmother, and the old dishes she used to make for me. I still dream of my grandmother's clam doenjang jigae.

    Wish to see more of her recipes and maybe even something you will cook for the first time from another cuisine like Indian or American etc…
    Regards,
    Jassi

    Flawless like ratio! I'm in my 30s and my grandmother passed two decades ago, I love watching any time your grandma is on the channel because she reminds me so much of my own. Grandma OK has a similar personality and sense of humor to mine and it always makes me so happy to get to watch you guys together. Please thank your grandmother for putting herself out there, she warms my heart all the way in the US.
