Been watching you for years Chef John, and I finally have a tip for YOU. When making crumble or crumb for this and some crisp etc use a fork instead of a spoon and you’ll get crispier crumbier crumb.
You have just created my favorite cake. I request a blueberry lemon cake every year for my birthday, which is January 3rd. After the holidays I'm over the cinnamon, pecan, pumpkin everything. The bright refreshing lemon and blueberry combo just hits differently. Plus you added the crumb topping!!! That took it over the top! Thank you, Chef John! I've forwarded this to both my adult daughters... now they have the perfect birthday recipe! Thanis again!!
Your daughters are lucky ! Their mom is still up and about, AND she knows what she likes for her BDay ❤! My mom passed away in 21, and was out of her 93 YO misery, but I've so missed being able to bake a cake for her ! I'm sure Chef John will be delighted to hear his last creation was elected to such honorable heights ! Way to go, and don't pay any attention to sorry b*ggers😅

Just made these with tame jumbo blueberries. Pretty darned nice. I used sour cream instead of yoghurt and that didn't seem to hurt. The last time I substituted yoghurt for sour cream in a different muffin recipe, I got a less fluffy result, so I didn't rush out to buy yoghurt this time. I put three blueberries on each muffin and a few tops sank a little. The taste stayed up, however. The crunchy top added some extra pizzaz. Thanks. Now, onto the asparagus mini quiches.

These look delightful!! I have some frozen blueberries on hand (not wild), but I’m assuming I could thaw them and drain off excess liquid and use them in this recipe. Definitely interested in making these in the next day or two! 😃

When I see desserts with anything apple or combinations like blueberry and lemon, I think they are to old fashion and boring. Then once trying it’s always amazing. Nothing boring at all. These look great.
I love everything Chef John makes. The only thing I can't vibe with is how you always let your baked goods cool down. Cookies and muffins are best enoyed with a side of burned mouth.

Mine are in the oven now. I had some buddha hand citrus from a friend that I put in with the lemon juice. I hope they turn out as good as Chef John's.
The only thing that makes the blueberry/lemon flavors even better together is a little cinnamon. I'd suggest adding cinnamon to the crumb mix.

I’m wondering if there is too much butter listed for the crumble? Mine ended up flat and the amount of butter was much more than in the video.
