      I think silat is not for sport. Most of the move is to the vital point. So its a dirty way to kill but effective. For exercise and self defence yes. But applying to sport no. The kicking and punching are not so beautiful to use but just to open your vital point like balls, throat and eyes then kill. Those are not allowed in sport. So when you see silat sport event, it is kind of boring cause the punching and the kicking are not so beauty. Some silat even not mainly to kick above when the enemy can grab by hand meaning from stomach to above when standing.

      Not surprised. In an interview he said when he learned the silat from his grandfather during childhood, his grandfather didnt teach nothing. All he did was beating maul until his body started to get bruised. "it has come to a point where my body has ran out of space to get hit. My grandfather didnt care, he kept hitting me. He hit at the same spot he hit yesterday. Next thing i know, my body turn as hard as rock, my grandfather's hit no longer painful to my body" - Maul Mornie, Silat Suffian BelaDiri

  • @robbyatmaja6896
    @robbyatmaja6896 6 ปีที่แล้ว +312

    Well, back to its origin, silat is not a sport. It is a system to kill your opponent as fast as you can, no matter how cheat it is, without making your life or the practitioner's in danger in a unfair fight caused by weight and or posture differences so he/ she will always stay unharmed without a single bruise or injury so he/ she always ready for the next fight.
    I'm Indonesian, and I don't want to end up in a wasting debate about "the origin of silat".
    What i want to say is that... this silat, is a killing kit. It'll turn your instinct and body parts to a lethal weapon.
    Please study it properly and be a wise pendekar. Please use silat only in a self defense situation.
    In its own culture, silat practitioners will take a punch or two just to make his/ her opponent satisfies and leave them in a will to avoid unnecessary brawl, because silat warriors or a pendekar knows fatal spots and killing blows that might take someone's/ the opponent's life easily, and silat's objective is not to knock your opponent down, but to kill your opponent.
    Sport martial art will never suit silat moves. As per sport, almost every move in silat are dirty moves. Silat practitioners will always hold themselves.
    100% silat will never suit MMA's regulations/ rules. Don't push it and let's just keep it that way.
    Let's learn and study silat, and let us be humble and down earthed.

      betul kali bro, silat pada era penjajahan digunain untuk melawan fisik orang yang jauh lebih besar serta fisik yang kuat, orang indonesia pada era penjajahan punya tinggi rata2 150cm. JIKA silat pada era ini hanya untuk membela diri/martial art, saya yakin silat nggak bakal bisa mengalahkan penjajah atau londo yang kita tau rata2 orang belanda 190cm dan punya basic militer dengan senjata. thats's why, silat diperuntukan untuk membunuh. silat penuh dengan kepraktisan kuncian, patahan, serangan cepat langsung ke anggota vital lawan, nggak basa basi, atau sekedar menyerang, menghindar bertahan,seperti kebanyakan martial art( nggak semuanya ya) karena dalam silat yang pernah saya pelajari, Menyerang adalah pertahanan terbaik. tidak ada waktu untuk bertahan dalam silat. dan satu alasan juga silat susah masuk UFC karena. silat yang sebenanya emang nggak pernah ada teknik ground fight, nggak pernah ada namanya fight dengan waktu, nggak pernah ada pukul2an tendang hanya untuk buat lawan KO tanpa ada yang patah minimal keseleo, dan satu lagi, silat yang sesungguhnya ngga ada wasit. silat yang sesungguhnya. dibunuh atau dibunuh. bukan tentang, menang dapat gelar atau kalah K.O. sillat not for self defence but for attack for defence your life.

    True about many forms of Silat. I study Seni Gayong Silat and at first it looks to the outsider " Hey folks don't fight like that" but they fail to realize in the beginning the foundation is being laid and movements are being ingrained. We are fully aware of the seriousness of an physical confrontation. Like Guru Steven Benitez says.. Test your Silat against Western Boxing. Adapt and Modern your Silat to todays ways of conflict. Also I love that Benitez works with MMA folks and learn of their ways and shows them Silat ways. We need more of that too. Hats off to these 3 Guru's. Oh by the way Guru Alvin is Benitez student.

    This guy is really good. I see alot of these seminars but, I think, that instead of going through 10-20 exercises, either actual "drills" or talking about them, the people would be better served by really DRILLING an easy, a moderate and a complex drill, which are all related. If it is the complex drill broken down then expanded upon. Silat is in its every movement. Wing Chun is in its every movement. Muay thai is in its every movement. Exhaustively drill a movement or a flow and eventually the body and the mind will want something new and it will break out of the drill and will begin to explore, while maintaining the essence of the art...how it moves.

    I have a question - can you do a video regarding your guard stance? in anticipation for the punch to enter then break and trap the arm. Are there different baiting techniques with the guard. It's obvious not a boxing guard where the hands are tight to the face, but I would like to see and explainer video and the science/technique revolving the difference of the Silat guard. Thanks!!

    Terbaik la silat nusantara kita ni.. moga anak2 muda pelajari ilmu nenek moyang kita drpd pupus.. sedangkan bangsa asing mempelajari ilmu nenek moyang kita ni.. kalau tidak bagus takkan negara Eropah ingin belajar..
