They extend their character to business that flourishes and is unique to Dharavi. One such industry is Kumbhar Wada, where the name is enough to translate the essence of its existence and purpose.
Kumbhar Wada is a maze of lanes entrenched with smoke rising out of bhattis baking clay wears, smell of fresh clay completing the picture of pottery and clay business running in full swing in the hot blaze of the festive season. This clay making domination comprises of approximately 3000 households, originally from Kutch and Saurashtra in Gujarat. They have been in pottery making business over generations and choose to remain firmly rooted in Dharavi’s Kumbhar Wada for nearly 100 years now.
