@IanWpring the point of a bass guitar that has extended range, like this one, is to be able to not only play bass lines, but play chords, melodies, whatever you want, and in whatever register you want to play it it. thats what makes it cool.
Sounds great. Superb tensions there. I'm working myself on soloing with the altered scale right now on bass, and it's so handy to hear how it can be applied so successfully!
Harmonic minor is definitely a major part of his improvisation. However, he is also using slightly altered relatives. Very interesting the way he does it, but it works and it sounds great, so that is all that matters
Seventh mode of melodic minor. Tonic, b9, #9, 3, #11, #5, b7. In the key of C using enharmonics: C Db D# E F# G# Bb Fits on any dominant chord, works good when resolving to minor.
@thephunk1 I feel you on your statement here. I am in the same situation. It is kind of frustrating to have all the scales, chord types, theory.. etc.. BRICKS and yet not have the mortar to put it together. I m searching as much as you for the exercises..not a DUMP of incongruous info all at once or a boat load of self promoting playing sprinkled with a "word or two" on theory and its successful application.
@bajerovaquero thanks man your awesome...this is gonna be real helpful to my playing....im not that good, but practice makes perfect you know....anyways i appreciate it a lot..thanks
Your phrasing is very well done, almost as though you're speaking. Are you focusing on hitting particular notes on particular beats and improvising the rest or is it all intellectually random according to your knowledge of theory or both? What are things/exercises/patterns you would recommend I work on? By the way, I've been playing bass for almost 20 years, so theory application is not new to me, but I'm still struggling with making my solos sound lyrical and seasoned.

Exceptionally "tasty." Would love to hear you actually cut loose and kick it (as I'm sure you do when you're actually soloing). BTW - when did you make the switch from guitar to bass?
very nice man. a little repetetive at some points, and not very rhythmcly interesting though. its fine. we all get that some times. band in a box for the win. bass on.
@IanWpring yes... know go tell Giovanni Bottesini that "Tarantella" is a bad piece of music because the bass is backed by a piano... Oh wait... You don't know Tarantella because If you did, I think you'd know a lot more about what basses and upright basses can do than you seem to...
i think its funny, how your playing a 'bass' guitar yet you still have to put a bassline in the backing track, seriously dude, if u want to work on those frequencies, PLAY A GUITAR and learn more than one position
more tha exelent.... congratulation it help me a lot to study the altered scale
Great playing... so smooooth, and groove'y!
Cheers!
Velocity not is all... Man, you are a very good musician. Excelent example of the altered scale improvisation. Best regards from Venezuela.

also known as the super locrian scale. C super locrian would be the scale of C major with all notes flattened except the C.

@danznokaze
...It's an improvisation. The lack of preparation is kind of the point.

@mojala2op
Sounds like a lot of music theory mumbo-jumbo. I need someone to tell me too lol. I really should learn up on this sort of thing
I'm having difficulty workin out the key your solo's is in.
i have a question whats an altered scale? If someone could answer that for me it'd be real helpful. Please and thanks.
cold dude.. SWR eh?? good ish.. i know you pay another instrument simply because of the melodic flow..
very nice man.

It's funny how closed minded simpletons like you totally miss the forest for the trees...GO FUCK YOURSELF and do it in more than one position.
I bet you can't do it
