Nice vid man! I really want to make a table like this. So question, does it necessarily matter how far apart the glasses are from each other? And should the light strip be perfectly centered between the glasses? or should it be closer to like the mirror or the film covered glass?
Aaron Mcdonald the further apart your mirror/tinted glass is away from the LED strip, the further away your rows will appear. I prefer them tight, because you get a close and bright repeating line and you get more reflections before the effect "fades away". I hope that makes sense and good luck to you!

You ought to make a table with this idea. I once had a Lane infinity wood table and the middle was the infinity. It was a square coffee table. The lights that were in it were the small Christmas tree lights. Mine had all clear but every once in awhile I'd take a few clear bulbs out and add color bulbs. The top glass all that I had to do was lift up on it. Great Video!

Derrick Lars very glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching. The tint should be facing out, away from the glass and towards the mirror so you get the bounce back of the LEDs and therefore creating the infinity effect.
That was pretty cool, you could try cleaning the glass with a soapy water solution and a razor blade then use a squeegee to finish then spray again before you fit.
Thx for posting. I like that you loop the strip twice so the pattern is more complex. Can you paint the strip black (around the light) and it still work without seeing the white strip.

Hey, thanks for watching the video! I went to a company in my area that does custom glasswork (most also do mirrors) and they cut me a mirror in the size that I needed. I got the 1/8" thick type, not tempered, and with the edges not finished. The edges are not razor sharp this way, but if you get them finished they will be super smooth. This is mostly preferred if the edges are on display, like a bathroom mirror, but in this case the mirror sits in a frame so it is out of sight. Hope this helps, good luck!

that would be very cool. the tough part would be protecting the glass from debris and high speeds when you're driving if it was on the outside. I'm sure there's a clever way around it, you just have to find it!
That's really cool man. Good job. Has there been any thoughts on how to maybe hide the power cord? I'm thinking about doing this (what brought me to your video) but can't find anyone who's come up with something clever to hide the power cord coming out of the side like that.
Totally agree, it looks really bad. the only thing I could think is to route it through the drywall and then have the cord come out near the outlet. obviously you want to be 100% positive about where you want to put it, and be very careful that you aren't destroying existing worrying in your wall! That would give it that extra polished look though for sure. Good luck and nice thinking!

I've done more research. And what I believe I need to do is this. 1) Get a 3ft high by 2ft wide ply board. 2) Then cover a frame with some type of light out fabric, 3) attach to the ply board, then somehow glue the onyx to the fabric part of it ? 4) Flip the board to the back side and put rope lighting all around the inner frame, add a light timer to that. I think. What do you think ?

I say go for it. really the only way to know for sure is if you try it! go over that plan on your head a couple times and make sure that you have the whole process down, and try to prove yourself wrong and fix the issues. that project is gonna look pretty sweet, be sure to share when you're done. good luck!

yes, it has a sticky side that goes onto the mirror. you use a spray bottle with soapy water, get the bubbles out, and then let it "cure" for 24 hours. just let it sit around and the film will fuse with the mirror. good luck!
You can use blue film as long as it is reflective, but honestly the normal mirror film is a blank color that accepts the color that you assign to the LED light. Like if you make the LED lights blue, then the whole mirror will glow blue. If you used red LED lighting with a blue film, the light would appear to be purple. Interesting idea, let me know how it turns out!

The distance is a couple inches. that puts the LED strip right in the middle, an inch away from each pane of glass/mirror. You can use whatever thickness of frame you would like, within reason.. I would suggest no more than 4" deep. the wider the frame, the farther apart each ring of lights will appear, because there will be more space in between the LED and the mirror, where the reflection begins. if you're using a wide frame like I was, notice how I did a double row of lights since it was able to fit. this produces tighter and brighter rings. hope this helps, good luck!

besides a mirror can I use 2 acrylic panels n just add the mirror sheet ? I ask becouse I have a party bus and I would love to put a infinity mirror n o glass cause it might shater please help
great question. 2 acrylic panels should work if you face the mirrored sheets towards each other. try to keep dimensions as small as you can to avoid bending of the acrylic, therefore warping your infinity effect. I have personally never made one using acrylic, but I did lots of research on that topic before making my first mirror. i would suggest getting two small pieces of acrylic, tinting both, and then holding them up with your hands with lights in the middle just to test the effect. if it works, then go ahead and build the real thing. best of luck, and share your results with us if you follow through on it. you have a really cool idea going.
I'm really confused how come the adhesive side of the tint is on the see through part and not on the mirrored side? I'm struggling to find similar tint because I don't want the mirror effect facing outwards.
Matthew Colley I hope I'm understanding this correctly, but you 1. want the adhesive side to stick to the glass, and 2. want the mirror side facing away from the glass, therefore bouncing the LEDs color back and forth between the real mirror and the tint mirror and creating the infinity effect. best of luck to you, I promise it works. If you're still in doubt, but the exact same brand of tint film that I used and you can't go wrong!

A tip to get less specks behind your tint, don't tint the glass flat, Lean the glass against something that way its in a more upright position and that way less dust will fall on it. I'm a professional tinter of 11 years, hope this helps anyone trying to attack this project.
You want the reflective side of the film to be facing inwards, towards the mirror. That way you have a reflective surface (the mirror) facing directly at another reflective surface (the reflective side of the tinted glass). That causes the LEDs to bounce back and forth, therefore creating the infinity effect. Think of that classic game, PONG. Take care, enjoy your weekend!
How thick of a photo frame do you recommend ? I have attempted this and I guess the frame i used was too thick (depth-wise) and the 3d effect was not really present. It looks like you have a 1/2 inch thick frame or so. let me know what you would recommend. thanks !
the frame from this video is 4" wide. considering the thickness of the mirror and the fact that it's set in, I would say the resulting distance of the mirror to the glass is maybe 3 to 3.5 inches. If you were getting a weak infinity effect, I would think that would have more to do with not using the best tint film. try something very reflective like the gila mirror film from the video. the thickness of the frame would result in your rows to appear further apart. that's why I did the double rows of LEDs. You want the mirror to be able to fit inside the frame, so you would cut the mirror just smaller than the inside dimensions of the frame. Does that make sense? Thanks for checking out the video!
The art of competition you can make it as thin/thick as you want. the minimum would be just wide enough to fit one row of LEDs in between the glass and mirror. for thickness, keep in mind that however much space is in between the led strand and the mirror, the effect is then doubled before the LED illusion is duplicated. I personally prefer my light width to be tight as it makes the rows appear closer together and increases overall brightness. thanks for the question, best of luck to you!
If you want to do it dust free. You have to increase humidity in the room. If you will increase humidity using a water vapor from a hot tub - you will do it dust free.
I did use soapy water, but as you can see the window wasn't oriented vertically. The soapy water makes it very easy to make minor adjustments when you set the film down to ensure that it's perfect! Thanks for the suggestion and best of luck if you're making your own!

great video man, sick results! one question, what is the distance between the mirrors? is it important?
The distance is a couple inches. that puts the LED strip right in the middle, an inch away from each pane of glass/mirror. You can use whatever thickness of frame you would like, within reason.. I would suggest no more than 4" deep. the wider the frame, the farther apart each ring of lights will appear, because there will be more space in between the LED and the mirror, where the reflection begins. if you're using a wide frame like I was, notice how I did a double row of lights since it was able to fit. this produces tighter and brighter rings. hope this helps, good luck!

besides a mirror can I use 2 acrylic panels n just add the mirror sheet ? I ask becouse I have a party bus and I would love to put a infinity mirror n o glass cause it might shater please help
great question. 2 acrylic panels should work if you face the mirrored sheets towards each other. try to keep dimensions as small as you can to avoid bending of the acrylic, therefore warping your infinity effect. I have personally never made one using acrylic, but I did lots of research on that topic before making my first mirror. i would suggest getting two small pieces of acrylic, tinting both, and then holding them up with your hands with lights in the middle just to test the effect. if it works, then go ahead and build the real thing. best of luck, and share your results with us if you follow through on it. you have a really cool idea going.

what have you sprayed to stick the window film
Apoorva Agarwal it's water with some dawn dish detergent in it. I forgot to put that in the video, but I did add it to the description.
thereis a clear protective over the adhesive on one side of the film. peal that off and spray it with soapy water to apply the film

I'm really confused how come the adhesive side of the tint is on the see through part and not on the mirrored side? I'm struggling to find similar tint because I don't want the mirror effect facing outwards.
Matthew Colley I hope I'm understanding this correctly, but you 1. want the adhesive side to stick to the glass, and 2. want the mirror side facing away from the glass, therefore bouncing the LEDs color back and forth between the real mirror and the tint mirror and creating the infinity effect.

A tip to get less specks behind your tint, don't tint the glass flat, Lean the glass against something that way its in a more upright position and that way less dust will fall on it. I'm a professional tinter of 11 years, hope this helps anyone trying to attack this project.

Which side of the film is facing out, or does it matter?
You want the reflective side of the film to be facing inwards, towards the mirror. That way you have a reflective surface (the mirror) facing directly at another reflective surface (the reflective side of the tinted glass). That causes the LEDs to bounce back and forth, therefore creating the infinity effect. Think of that classic game, PONG. Take care, enjoy your weekend!

How thick of a photo frame do you recommend ? I have attempted this and I guess the frame i used was too thick (depth-wise) and the 3d effect was not really present. It looks like you have a 1/2 inch thick frame or so. let me know what you would recommend. thanks !
the frame from this video is 4" wide. considering the thickness of the mirror and the fact that it's set in, I would say the resulting distance of the mirror to the glass is maybe 3 to 3.5 inches. If you were getting a weak infinity effect, I would think that would have more to do with not using the best tint film. try something very reflective like the gila mirror film from the video. the thickness of the frame would result in your rows to appear further apart. that's why I did the double rows of LEDs. You want the mirror to be able to fit inside the frame, so you would cut the mirror just smaller than the inside dimensions of the frame. Does that make sense? Thanks for checking out the video!

how thin do you suppose you can make this and it still have the desired effect. as thin as the lights glass and mirror?
The art of competition you can make it as thin/thick as you want. the minimum would be just wide enough to fit one row of LEDs in between the glass and mirror. for thickness, keep in mind that however much space is in between the led strand and the mirror, the effect is then doubled before the LED illusion is duplicated. I personally prefer my light width to be tight as it makes the rows appear closer together and increases overall brightness. thanks for the question, best of luck to you!

If you want to do it dust free. You have to increase humidity in the room.
If you will increase humidity using a water vapor from a hot tub - you will do it dust free.

Or do it like the car tinters do. Stand the glass vertically and rinse with abundant soapy water before applying the tint
I did use soapy water, but as you can see the window wasn't oriented vertically. The soapy water makes it very easy to make minor adjustments when you set the film down to ensure that it's perfect! Thanks for the suggestion and best of luck if you're making your own!
